Informative, well maintained, friendly guides, all comes with no charge. At one point the guide will give you a simple cipher tool & teach us how it works.

I came to this place to do my research and I was helped so much cause the guide was so helpful and friendly. There is also a library which contains many books about the history of code in Indonesia.

"You should visit here, because the guides say that this museum of codes is the only one in southeast asia. This museum is in the middle of yogyakarta city and very easy to reach. But most importantly this museum is a great place to visit if you love history."

This is the only cryptography museum in Indonesia. In this museum, you will be able to understand its history and development. This is one of the most well-maintained museum in Yogyakarta, as the museum is nice and clean, the guide is provided if you wish (and it's free), and the admission is free. This museum is located in a historic building which was the place of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

One of the most underrated museums in Yogyakarta but one of the best :)
Located in the area of Kotabaru, the place is quite difficult to notice since it looks like an ordinary colonial house. People might pass it and find themselves in front of the hotel - which is more visible.
The great part about the museum is it opens also on Sundays! You can come and the guide will welcome you kindly. You will get a small code paper for a small game later. The rooms are clean, has great audio and good condition collections. The guide will be with you for the first 2-3 rooms, explaining about the history of codes. Then you can freely explore the museum. You will not get lost because the place is quite small.
Then you can continue to the second floor where a game room exists. You can play codes game in the cozy room.
It's better to come with small groups since the rooms for the exhibitions are usually small. Sunday morning and other mornings are usually quiet so it's a good time for a visit.

It is one of the best museum I have found. The staff are very friendly (it is the characteristic of the people of Jogjakarta) and the museum is not too big, so you can enjoy the collection of this museum without getting tired. I love that all of this place is air conditioned. You can also know the father of cypher/code in Indonesia here. Surprise, surprise! There is something that you will get from the staff. What is that? Are you curious? Please visit the museum, especially because no ticket fee. This place is easily accessible and not too far from Malioboro.

Oke first off all, not many people know about this place. This museum small, but simply beautiful, full of knowledge, free, fun, and challenging. This museum show you so many type of code, including the machine and the people who included and experienced to make a code. Even thou the museum is not that big, but you can find many code and try to find the answer by your self, or with your mate and friends. Come to here, it's a unique museum in Yogyakarta. You can even take a photo while wearing an old indonesian civil uniform.

Everything you need to know about "sandi" (code). I was surprised when they offered tour-guiding throughout the museum for FREE. The government must be really investing in this. The vintage objects are pretty well taken care of, the rooms are all air-conditioned, there are computers with library and games inside.

Free to enter. Two story building. Many cryptography machines, interesting stuff if you are into it. There is also a new library but no interesting books, yet.

Recommended dgn kurator utk kunjungan pertama.

If you love coding and breaking mysterious message like a detective, this place was for you. Very educating. It's clean and comfy. Moreover, all the staffs here were so kind and polite. And it's free!

If they haven't opened some extension for the museum, you may see just a number of coding / decoding machines, similar to typewriters, a few ancient style coding equipment, and hear some history. If you are interested in that kind of stuff, any thematic book is more helpful (by N. Liventhal, for ex.).

But I have to say: for a ticket-free museum, it's definitely worth to visit.
Anhar Wahyu Cahya Putra (09/10/2015 15:07)
