Yogyakarta Batik Museum is located directly next to the Hotel Museum Batik. They are under the same owner. It was started by the patriarch who used to be in the batik business.
There are so many varieties of batik here to amaze you. Well worth the time to visit.

Nice tour of Batik but could be improved with more clothes in the shop to buy afterwards, not only batik cloth.

Good place to get to know more about Batik. Located near Lempuyangan train station.
Ticket price: Rp. 20k. (including local English tour guide).
Also there is a hotel nearby.
Need to open the eyes wide open, because the location is actually at back side. The front side is the shop. You just need to follow the small street.

The collections were pretty cool, the staffs were nice, extremely helpful and friendly; the workshop was fun! Would recommend this to everyone who wants to know further about batik processing and the types of batik all around java!

One of the best place in Jogjakarta to learn about Batik. The people are friendly (seriously, many people at Jogja are friendly). You can get a tour guide here to learn more. Here, you can try to learn making Batik (doing a process) or just see someone making Batik (The process is called nyanting). Several part of the place has been air-conditioned while the other not. It is really recommended for any people to come here, especially for students. The location is not near the city center but you can go here by Trans Jogja.

- Super visite! Allez-y et traduisez mon anglais pour plus de détails!
- Stupenda visit, fate un google translate dall'inglese all'italiane e capirete il perché. Vale veramente la pena!
Initialy we were skeptical about this museum, not really at the center of the town and described as full of unexplained artefacts. We really wanted to learn something about genuine batik (not the crap they sell in Malioboro and elsewhere) so we tried. Immediately we were totaly completely blown away by our guide, so kind, enthusiastic, knowledgeable. And her visit was FREE! she really went this extra mile, using all the (very good) french she could muster to please us (otherwise using an excellent English), giving more than the 1h planned to answer our questions and explain the various and meaningful collections. The display is not in line with the marketing mantras and most of the modern exhibit criteria but we were explained that most batik are extremely light sensitive and passion makes for the lack of funds. Again and again, go there, spend some time and learn about genuine batik, its tradition, its meaning, its production, and be inquisitive: passionate and knowledgeable guides will enlight you!
