When you go to Jakarta, you should definitely stay at the Maritim Guesthouse. Ita and Donald are the perfect hosts. They’re not only super friendly, they also serve you a great breakfast. I was in Indonesia for a month and it turned out we had the best breakfast at the beginning of the trip. The rooms are really clean and because of the beautiful garden it no longer feels like you’re in the crowded city of Jakarta.

I cannot recommend highly enough, whether you are a Westerner like me (USA) or a visitor from nearby Indonesia. This is very different from a hotel experience, it's more like a homestay but with a high level of service and hospitality. The proprietors Don and Ita are a delightful couple - he is from US and she is Indonesian - and thus they combine the best of both worlds. They have a small but very attentive staff who are just as kind and helpful.
My two friends and I stayed here for six days and thoroughly enjoyed it. We chose Maritim because it was highly recommended on TripAdvisor and also because it's literally across the street from Wisma Subud which was the organization we were visiting. It's located pretty conveniently in South Jakarta which is the nicer part of Jakarta as we learned. The house itself has 9 guest rooms of different sizes and decor, with very comfortable beds, AC, cable TV and en suite bathrooms for each. We were given unlimited filtered fresh water and the rooms cleaned daily. You can have your laundry done there as well.
The service is impeccable (the owners worked professionally at major hotels prior), the facility spotless, and the food is AWESOME. Room prices are competitive - a little more than a traditional homestay but less expensive than a hotel - a good value when you consider that breakfast and dinner are included. The food is healthy versions of Indonesian and prepared beautifully, organic veggies and lovely homemade desserts and baked goods. One morning we left super early and they packed breakfast boxes for us.
One of the other values of staying here is the personal interaction and friendly advice from Don and Ita. They really went above and beyond to help us enjoy Jakarta and navigate its challenges. I liked learning about the local politics and culture from insiders, and they loaned me a guide book of local info. And, when we ran into problems with our flights, Ita spent 45 minutes of her time on the phone with the airline (speaking Indonesian) helping to get our problem fixed.
If I ever go back to Jakarta, you can bet I'll be staying here again!
