NIS is a wonderful school. Like a hidden gem. We had started our 3rd year with renewed ambition and optimism. And this has continued throughout the first term.
The teachers and staff are not only highly skilled professionally, but are also genuinely good, sincere people who have the best interests of the child at heart. In my experience they have strived beyond expectations to assist myself as parent and my child in every way possible to accommodate our needs and concerns. There are some issues that I honestly could not have overcome without their support and for this I am very grateful. I believe this approach allows NIS to have a very personal touch, which is often lost in other schools. It has allowed my child to develop optimally within a positive, stimulating and nurturing environment that leaves us all feeling very satisfied and fulfilled. Thank you NIS.

Lovely school. The school is very welcoming and friendly and clearly puts the needs of the individual children above anything else.

Great school with a Dutch and English stream from prenursery (2y) to primary 6 (12y). Not too big, a personal approach, nice campus, fantastic teachers, follows the IPC program.

Pros:
Has beautiful playgrounds.
Majority of teachers in the Early Years are lovely and sincere.
Cons:
- Lack of staff & high teacher turn-over
-Lack of communication on all levels of the school
- New management allows lots of meetings and sweet talk about "moving forward" but true accountability, action, and consequences are thrown out the window
- Issues are either dismissed as "rumors", irrelevant, or denied that they are happening
- No set standard of discipline/protocol
-Limited and deteriorating facilities
-Lack understanding of WHY parents choose a small school
- Are changing this beautiful, loving school into a corporate structure
Specific Examples:
No Immunization Policy for a child to enter NIS!
Notice boards kept empty since the start of school. Many parents not informed of the HFMD and Chicken Pox cases.
Majority of the current P1 class has had 7 teachers in the past 3 years.
Allowed a 36 week pregnant woman to come into Primary 1/2 to help students while there was an active case of Chicken Pox in the Primary Years (She was not informed of this when entering the school)
When asked why the ENTIRE K1 academic class of 2106-2017 received zero sample work throughout the year (this was the only class that did not bring home any written work for 8 months) the response given by the Acting Principal to the parent was, "Every teacher works differently. We are very happy with the teacher" This response was both shocking and confusing, especially since my child in that year was producing many written pieces at home.
This K1 teacher has previously used humiliating methods such as "naughty chair", sad face stickers for children who misbehave, and created a toxic atmosphere where children were divided into those who were "naughty/nice". When asked about why these methods were ever allowed in a class, and why the school was UNAWARE of these practises until parents spoke out, the response by the teacher was, "These things have never happened. Your child is imagining his punishment in the class" These methods were mentioned by the majority of the children in the the K1 class and I found out later, the "naughty chair" continued to happen in the 2016-2017 academic year.
UPDATE (Nov 6, 2017): After reading this google review, the Acting Principal called me into her office and scolded me and tried to get me to change the review. When I responded by saying, "I still do not have an answer as to why the K1 class (13 students) produced zero written work for 8 months?" The Acting Principal responded, "Well, the reason no work was sent home was because your child produced no work for 8 months and we don't force children to produce work." The claim that my child was unable to produce any written work for 8 months to me is unbelievable since he and the other students are the same children who produced huge portfolios the previous year in N2 (1 year younger). When my child switched into a different class in the same school, he was able to produce a portfolio on specific inquiry within just 1 week of being in the new class.
At the conclusion of this discussion, the Acting Principal suggested that I not be involved with the Parent Consultation Group Meeting held on Nov 6, 2017 as "it would not be the right venue for someone like me". Despite the fact that an email was sent to all class reps inviting feedback on issues that parents would like to discuss about the school and how to positively change that, the Acting Principal made it clear to me that they will not be allowing parents to discuss any problematic issues with NIS and the focus will be on "building communication". As a result of being disinvited, to PCG, I resigned as class rep.
