If you're visiting Bali, you simply must come here. It is just so beautiful, being able to walk among the rice fields with chickens running around and coconuts and papaya trees along the way! Be warned, there are a lot of tourists (of course) and you will be expected to make a small donation of around 5,000 to use the bridges to access the field and the path, but for that tiny cost it is well worth it.

Located in a hill. This rice terrace is mesmerising. You can only see greenery around here. Beautifully maintained. To reach here you have to walk down few steps and then climb up the terrace. This rice terrace is quite big enough. We reached here in evening and it was cloudy and the weather was just beautiful and pleasant.

To start with, our driver drove us to a parking lot where at the exit we already had to pay 10K rupiah per person just to enter... what? a street filled with souvenir shops. The street is on the top of one of the sides of the terraces so already from there you can see the terraces. The view is nice, but then the weird thing happens... at the entrance to the actual terraces we found 1st "Donation" box. The rule is simple you either "donate" or you can't pass. Our driver guided us towards different path but soon we found another box. Then we started to climbing the other side and another box appeared. Until the top there were at least two more boxes. The donation as they say goes for mating the path... that is not true. I have seen some tourists giving as much as 100K which is 10 dollars. With the amount of tourists this place makes 100s of dollars per day. Then the driver told us that it is because each level is part of different field so those people are simply different farmers and the money goes for them... that is not true. As I said yeah stands makes 100s dollars a day... with minimum salary being around 300-350 dollars this would make those farmers the richest people in the village which they are not. Because of this we decided not to go further. The money definitely doesn't go for the maintenance of the path (which at times is simply a muddy path that naturally appeared because of all the people walking there) or poor farmers that stand there the whole day and with smile on their faces ask for "donation". Sad reality is that someone does benefit from it. Furthermore, on the both sides of the terraces there are famous swings that also ask for ridiculous prices up to 20 or even more dollars. And the guys that operate those swings look like everything but farmers :/. But the visit to the area is recommended because of sheer view, just try not to support shady business that is going on there.

Beautiful rice fields, specially if you come early in the morning. The light will be awesome and you won't have many other people there. Be prepared to pay multiple (2x) donations, one at the top and then once you arrive in the valley again to go up the other side.

Who could imagine that a rice field can be such a wonder? Beautiful view. Recommended to move around the terrace to have different views of the fields.
Please, remember that this is a touristic attraction for you but still some people are working in there, let's try to respect them.
Many restaurants and shops around the area.

such a nice place with amazing views. the paddy field looks so well organized by nature. the coconut trees and all the greeneries are different from other places. and there's a swing down there in the field. the weather is good and this place gives me calming sensation from routine' life. the locals are so friendly. but the price is little bit high in here.

A good place worth visiting just to check out the famous tiered rice fields in Bali. Loving the freshness of the areas. In some areas it gets a bit touristy at times. There are some cafes with great views of the rice fields. If in the neighbourhood, i would recommend a quick detour to visit the area and soak in the view.

Family holiday? This was the right place to teach your children about nature, they have wonderful tracks on the rice fields, restaurants, and beautiful scenic. They have a new parking space now, and not forget to mention shopping place! Good prices for dress, etc. Ready for some adventure? Dont wait, come here and stay, there are also lots of hotel with beautiful view within the area

Really loved how serene the environment is here. It is just as amazing in person as it is in the photos. Definitely go early to avoid crowds. We arrived just before 9am and it wasn't busy at all. But when we were leaving around noon, lots of people were coming in. Bring some water as it does get to be quite warm and there is minimal shade. There is a cafe on the far side and we rested there in one of the cabanas. Lots of photogenic spots as well. The parking is a bit confusing. We were informed that motorbikes can go along the road but there are no parking signs and we ended up parking in the lot with the cars. There is also a relatively clean washroom in that parking lot.

I've always wanted to go to a rice field since I've seen so many photos on social media & this pace didn't disappoint! It's free to get in but there are donation places along the walk. I just gave them 2,000 for each one. I took a scooter here, which I think is the best option so you're not on a time limit with a tour group. Definitely come here if you want to see rice fields, but go early so you don't have as many tourists there.
Greg Nonato (28/03/2018 15:02)
What a beautiful spot! Going mid morning till noon, there were quite a few people in the terraces and it got really hot! I'd recommend heading out earlier in the morning. There are a number of ways to go down into the terraces, some more scenic than others. Once you're down in the valley, it's pretty fun exploring the paddies!
Amit Chaturvedi (19/03/2018 15:18)
Nice place to see the stepped rice fields. There are numerous shops for wood carving, paintings and other art forms on the route. You can go as far as you wish to explore the rice fields; there are a few restaurants too right after a couple of steps down. We had lunch at one of the places; food was nice and I even clicked the menu. It was overhanging the rice fields. Overall good to hike and have good amidst nature.

This one is really amazing we have been there at rain but still super cool! View is amazing and the colors all possible green that you just can imagine! There were not so much people just some dealers of post cards going with you all the time! I dont like it at Bali!! But go there just for this amazing view!!!
juni tude Bekalisa (29/11/2017 03:45)
The rice terrace is designed very beautiful with exquisite hollowing rice field and precisely located on the hill bank. In this place, you will see the Balinese farmer do their rice field in oblique area complete with its system irrigation. You will enjoy the beautiful panorama of valley with rice terrace and coconut trees ornament it.
Steve Leong (26/11/2017 12:57)
It was a nice ride not very far from Ubud. The scene of the traced rice fields is quite relaxing. There are many cafe's n restaurants by the main road that give a nice view of the rice fields from their interestingly decorated platforms. Traveling into the smaller road took us into villages and more interesting places. Highly recommended activity if you ride a motorbike
Angela Lauren (23/11/2017 02:46)
This place has an amazing rice fields view. Just make sure you don't come during the rainy season like we did. There are many cafes where you can just sit and enjoy the view. Or you can walk around to look for great photography spots.
Zaki Almuhaisen (17/11/2017 01:19)
One of the best rice terrace views in the world to see the the rice farms and rice plantation. The view is really amazing and soul relaxing. There are good local restaurants and coffee shop where you can set and enjoy watching the amazing view of the rice in there terrace. It's really good and nice to come and visit this place when you are in Bali.
Rivaldo Deniz (28/09/2017 13:50)
It's the main reason I travelled north and it didn't disappoint. Breathtaking landscapes. It's a shame there's a shop in the heart of the fields but it's how many make a living so fair play.
Teri Ross (17/09/2017 17:24)
There is only one word to describe this - breathtaking. Be sure to bring your camera and wear good shoes, as there are plenty of steps. Worth the trip.
Dhamayanth Raj (11/09/2017 15:03)
Such a beautiful place!! I am from Tanjour(the rice bowl of India) and have never seen these kind of rice cultivation. Great view and you will see a lots of fancy articles shop on the way to Tegallalang. Try tender coconut.. It's so good!!
ADP 1994 (22/07/2017 10:10)
I absolutely loved this place. Getting there takes a while but it is definitely worth it. The views are fantastic and just like you imagine them. The walk is a bit exhausting but if you imagine the farmers doing this every day many times your respect for them grows. Sadly, there are many "stations" where you have to pay a small fee/ donation in order to get through. We got an entrance ticket nobody cared for and then had to pay extra to get anywhere. Due to that only 4 stars.
Secret tip: A little down the road was a coffee manufacture with the super expensive animal digestive tract fermented coffee beans (I forgot the name of the animal...). They have free tasting of tee and coffee made by them and for a cheap price you can even get the "super coffee". While not all that great in my opinion, the tasting is super interesting and absolutely worth a visit.
Benoît benito (14/07/2017 10:27)
Be careful of people ask for a donation. Donation is freedom. Just give them 5000. Not more.
Unfortunately it is begin a museum. So people earn more money with donation and absolutely no explain of the hard work of the rice.
The view is better when u go up and turn right.
Lauren McCracken (15/06/2017 09:19)
Beautiful surroundings. We had a local guide who was took us trekking through the rice terraces and let us meet some locals, well worth it! He was able to give us loads of information on the rice fields and farming in the area.
kelajno (06/06/2017 14:52)
It was nice. Actually, it would be even better if there were no annoying people asking for donations every now and then and cursing you after you walked by without giving something. I mean, one can choose to donate or not, right? Anyways, go see this famous terrace but if you have more time in Ubud, check the rice terraces right near the centre of the town, they are not less worthy but definitely less crowded.
ja ki (29/05/2017 00:27)
Good for taking pictures. This can be done very quick.
No entrance fee. Easily accessible photo spots.
Parking for motorcycles is free if you can find a parking spot. Parking for cars is impossible at peak times.
Thomas Lewis (11/05/2017 13:03)
Great views really worth a visit. Every 200yards you walk someone seems to be demanding 10000 rupee. From what I could tell very little rice is harvested here they make the majority of their money from tourists not farming. Worth a visit but make sure you take small notes
Lorena Pérez (27/04/2017 00:52)
We will never be able to explain the beauty of this place with words. If you come with your scooter don't park it right in the front as they will ask you for 10k for parking and entry (which is free) park your scooter a bit further up. Make sure you have enough water with you as there's lots of stairs and very hilly. You will also have to pay 10k (or your preferred donation) in at least 2 points of the terraces in order to carry on the paths. Beware of the little kids trying to sell little postcards of Bali for their "school"
Pedram Nick Aryan (26/04/2017 20:40)
One of the most beautiful rice terraces. It's very tidy and neat. Super green. The walk around the field is beautiful and filled with locals making a living. Just sit in the shade, have a refreshing drink and enjoy the view.
Cauê Motta (19/03/2017 02:59)
It is definitely an iconic place in Bali, but it is also very seasonal. Depending on which stage of the crops you get there, you won't be able to see that amazing green layered hill from the post cards... but details aside, no doubt it is worth a visit! The place looks pretty cool anyway and the way to get there is worth the trip on its own, in my opinion. But then again, isn't every place in Bali? ;)
livingroundtheworld (18/03/2017 04:48)
There were levels upon levels of flats, filled with sprouting rice plants. The scenery was a sea of greens and browns dotted by tropical plants and coconut trees. A good example of wet rice terraces in Bali but its more of tourist attraction these days and less of a collective of farms. Expect carloads of visitors and many paying for photos with farmers. You can also pay to visit and walk around sections of rice terraces.
Madhu Sarda (17/03/2017 08:26)
A nice place to see but much hyped. Traffic scene should be considered while making the trip. Beautiful rice fields. We also met a smiling farmer 👨🌾 who was willing to pose and share his tools for pics.
Leena Taneja (12/03/2017 17:27)
A must see if you're in Ubud. Our driver dropped us off on the "top"- we weren't asked for any donations of any sort which made this a more pleasant experience from which others are describing.
Our trip was in October, incredibly HOT- but the pictures are completely worth it. Do not, by any means, recommend hiking down. It's difficult, muddy and crowded and simply not worth it. The best views are from up top anyway.
Salim Abdelhamid (04/03/2017 09:27)
The rice terraces are really beautiful and walk inside the terraces is breathtaking but unfortunately locals "demand" donations on several spots along the way. Makes one feel like they're being ripped off.
Apart from that it's truely a wonderful place.
Monish Ananthu (03/01/2017 01:52)
4 stars as the rice terraces have more of a commercial feel to it. Halfway through you'll be asked to pay a toll as a donation. With thousands of tourists passing through every day, it quite doesn't fit which makes it all the more commercial. For a quick pit stop to take a talk in the green rice plantations to get some fresh air it's alright. As an alternative I recommend the rice terraces in the west coast not far from tannah lot as they have more of an authentic feel to it.
Elie Villeda (29/11/2016 23:23)
This rice field is amazing. By the way the entrance is free so don't pay anything to anyone. Go there almost at dawn when there are not tourist. You will appreciate the sounds and smells, and completely alone.
edison mansur (29/11/2016 20:46)
I should have gone when the sun is up. I went to this place literally minutes before the sun went down. Even then I like it a lot. The terrace quite spectacular from the distance and the smell of paddy quite nice and relaxing.
Jennifer Herb (29/11/2016 08:18)
Don't miss this place on your trip to Bali. It was an unbelievable experience that took my breath away. Lots of stairs and climbing, so keep that in mind if you are traveling with babies or people with limited mobility. We took our four and five year olds with us and they were able to navigate the terrain just fine. Bring some cash along to donate for the upkeep of the bridge and footpaths, as well as to have your photo made with your traveling group in front of the most gorgeous scenery ever. There are also good souvenir shopping stalls at the top/edge. In response to negative comments about the donations, please know you can donate however much you like and this place is more than worth a little pocket change. I didn't find it "annoying" at all; in fact I felt that it was the respectful thing to do and donated generously.
jeff dumke (07/11/2016 10:01)
Great viewing and some good exercise. Bring small change as they continuously ask for donations on multiple tracks to keep them safe and have money to put towards repairs. Was the only annoying thing continuously donating as you go instead of paying a 1 off cover fee.
Ivo Toman (07/10/2016 12:58)
Great walk through the terraces. One has to give some mandatory donations to local farmers to pass through, but I guess it's just fair because no one really likes when people walk through their land. Don't miss this place

We ordered two meals. They brang the second one very late, when we had already finished the first. Beef very hard.
We also ordered two deserts, ice cream and a pancake...we had finished the ice cream and the pancaje wasn't ready. Turistic prices. No good
S Chandragiri (06/03/2016 18:13)
Breathtaking views, extremely friendly staff. Great place to have a coffee and enjoy the views after the tiring climb from the rice terraces.
