Despite the small tapas-style portions, this place absolutely delivers. While I’d love to savor more of each individual dish, there really doesn’t need to be more, because I savored every delicious, flavorful bite.
As impeccable as the food is, the service is even more on point, especially for Southeast Asia! You can truly tell that the head chef is from Nobu, because everything is amaaaaaze.
I tried the shrimp and waygu tacos, the tuna crispy rice, and the tuna tartar. I recommend all of them, especially the tacos!

Possibly one of the best Japanese joints in Bali. Go if your budget can stomach it.

Tried this place as it was in the lonely planet. Delicious meal, the flavours were out of this world! Potentially some of the best Japanese food I’ve had outside of Japan. Yes the portions aren’t huge, but you’re paying for quality not quantity (there are lots of warungs for that...). We paid just over £40 for two strong cocktails (2 for 1 between 5-7), a Sapporo beer and 9 delicious plates. It’s perhaps on the pricier end for Bali, but where else could you eat such incredible quality Japanese food for that price? We’ve had half as much for twice the price in SoHo in London. We’re both full up and tipsy so we’re happy!

Pretty good soft shell crab bun. Overall nice food and ambience. Good Japanese place to chill.

Another recommendation - another gem experienced.

One of the cultural experiences that I never get tired of is the welcome that diners receive when entering a Japanese restaurant. In a staggered chorus, everyone from the service staff, to the chefs, will look up and shout, "Irasshaimase!", meaning "Welcome to the store!", or "Come on in!" And the team at One Eyed Jack's do it well!

It's my last night in Bali, and I'm prepared to spend a little extra and treat myself. Happy Days! - it's Happy Hour when I arrive around 6:30pm. Thanks - I'll have two San Miguel Pale Ale's for the price of one (Rp50k).
If you want to eat more cheaply, then include one the bowl options, as they will probably be more filling. However, I love to try as many dishes as possible when I dine out, so small plates and tapa style portions suit me fine, and Japanese cuisine is full of such options. The menu is divided into sections: Bites/Tacos/Raw/Bao/Small Plates/Yakitori & Bowls. I manage to down 7 plates on my own, plus 4 bottles of beer (seems rude not to at Happy Hour prices). Each dish is simply presented - without unnecessary garnishes, and flavours are delicately balanced. I savour each mouthful, and take in the casual vibe of the room.

The decor is chic Japanese, with lots of interesting photos adorning the walls. The ones near the bathroom entrance feature elaborate yakuza tattoos, which I think most people find fascinating. There is a polished concrete bar that runs almost full length of the room, and allows you to sit and chat with some of the staff while they prepare dishes. You can also look into the kitchen and observe food on the chargrill. The staff are all very pleasant, and accommodating. When I booked online, I enquired about coming in before the earliest available time slot at 6:30, and I received a prompt reply welcoming me to come in earlier if I wished to.

So my 7 dishes, and 4 beers at half price come to Rp591k (AUS$56), which I think is great value for a really tremendous night out. Hard to see you being disappointed by this place, so get yourselves along there and enjoy the experience!

I visited with two friends, we needed dinner and this place was just around the corner. We ordered a bit of everything; bites, tacos, yakitori, small plates, a bowl... The staff was very good, they quickly realized that we shared everything and brought three smalls bowls and spoons for us to share the bowl, the bigger dish. The food was really good! Crispy okra, tempura rock shrimps, sashimi... The yakitori was our least favourite, it was "just" good and the rest was amazing. We finished it off with some deserts (ice cream, mache crème brûlée, red velvet cake ice cream sandwich) and three kinds of japanese spirits. It is a bit pricey to be in Bali but we still had a very affordable feast. I highly recommend a visit at One Eyed Jack!

Amazing food, great staff! Stayed in Bali 4 nights and ate here for 3 of those nights. Small portions but the food is amazing. Definitely recommended!

Great food across the board. Good set up inside and some very Japanese inspired drinks. Close to the beach for eating en route home after sunset. Great option

It's NYE, very busy, came with no reservations; we understand this.

Food were very tasty. Everything was just perfect.

One note though: please be kind to local Indonesian customers, not only for the tourists :)

Thank you and happy New Year 2018!

Amazing food, really nothing to say but try it all! Also, drinks are amazing (especially during happy hour!)

Funny to hear people say this restaurant is authentically Japanese. If you've been to Japan you know it's definitely not and food here is average. Funky decor/atmosphere and great selection of Sake but pricey for the value you can get in other places in Bali.

Amit Dangwal (24/09/2017 13:08)
Place is nice. Portions too small to be of any use.
May seem overpriced as compared to other places and keeping Bali prices in mind. Prices aside I am not sure if I enjoyed my dinner.

Aerrie Seo (23/09/2017 00:00)
This place is just overpriced fake izakaya. All sashimi is covered soaked into the sauce which you cannot tell the real quality of the raw fish itself and half of yakitori menu is not available(i don't know it always happens or just that day), moreover the yakitori comes only one skewer for $3. Way too small amount and rack of quality fir me. But if you like Finn's which is the big beach club, 1 min away for walking from this place, you might like this place. Definitely not for me.

Delicious food & amazing service! Fresh innovative Japanese food.We loved every bite ! Yes plates are small as any gourmet restaurant but they were all super delicious! You would pay much more elsewhere for a delicate and scrumptious meal like this.

Bobby Sumarkho (27/08/2017 02:12)
Modern japanese food. Every dish comes in small portion so good opportunity to taste different menu. Tapas kind of concept. The resto prepares only limited ingredients to ensure the foods are always at their freshest. Service is fast anf staffs attentive. Good dinner experience.

Jessica Casey (25/07/2017 07:40)
Tuna tartar is the best this on the menu! Love the lava cake for dessert as well :)

Simply awesome. Well worth a trip to Canggu just to come here. The food, drinks and service are all amazing. Put this place in any major city and you would have to book weeks out and pay an arm and a leg. Here its unpretentious, fun and generally awesome.

Biggest disappointment - changed a lot in a year!
Visited One Eyed Jack almost exactly to the day a year after it had opened. At that time a Western Chef surprised us with incredible tasty dishes which were worth the high prize. The restaurant was buzzing and the atmosphere really nice.

This year, we visited again on Mothers Day to experience a huge disappointment. Not only were only customers on three tables, it was like we would enter a different restaurant. The staff was unattentive and bored and mostly spent their time entertaining themselves.

The Western Chef seemed to have left. What we received was food which was extremely disapointed. We ordered two rice bowls which both tasted boring and tasteless, the soft shell crab swam in a vinegar sauce which was far too bitter. The pork belly which had melted in our mouth last year so that we had ordered a second helping was unedible. Very hard without taste. Even the margarita we had ordered as a cocktail was under every standard.

This place surely had a lot of potential a year ago when it opened, but now its just a waste of money as prices have not come down. We saw the owner of the restaurant tonight, but he also didnt seem very much interested to improve the behaviour of the waiters who were too many and much too bored.

Unless the owner brings back a Chef who knows how to cook, we doubt this restaurant will see another year. Very disappointed

Great food and service! Best were the soft shell crab sliders. Highly recommended. Perfect for dinner after a day at Finns Beach Club

Good place for authentic yakitori, small plates, and other Japanese bar food.

James Mackay (25/01/2017 12:36)
Do not go if you are hungry; you will need to order 15 plates. I'm 6'3", 200lbs... you should never be able to eat a taco with chop sticks in one bite. That being said, if you have a small stomach, and just want to taste some incredible food, this is the right place

Roland van Velzen (04/01/2017 11:02)
Very good Japanese restaurant. Very nice small plates to share. Good atmosphere.

Delicious Japanese fusion restaurant. Supposedly opened by an ex chef from NOBU Japan. Highly recommended!

Villa Ganesha (05/11/2016 08:12)
The former chef from Nobu arrived in berawa! Amazingly good food. Small portions but really tasty. A bit moore pricy for Bali but compared to Nobu it's well worth it.

Gaynor Cross (31/05/2016 12:26)
Great place to eat if you love beautiful Japanese food with a slight western twist. The prices are good considering the excellent quality of the food and they have a good wine and cocktail list. Will definitely make this one of our local places to eat whilst we are here.

Scott Earle (28/09/2016 12:38)
Hot new spot in Berawa....food is amazing, great ambience and staff are friendly and attentive.

Great food, lovely staff and amazing atmosphere

“Small Portions, Not Cheap, But Guaranteed Delicious”
What else can you expect though when a former chef from Nobu joins the Canggu community. This place promises amazing Japanese fusion dishes and it delivers. Just be prepared to get out your wallet and order a bunch of dishes off the menu, they're tapas style, small and made for sharing.

Pascal PRADERE (12/07/2016 01:10)
Véritable arnaque. Rien dans l'assiette et des prix dementiels pour ce que l'on grignote.
Japonais de pacotille ! A éviter de toute urgence.
