This is a need to do in Bali. The company itself gives back to the community more than any other. The owners are locally born and genuine.
Now onto the rafting. Not too advanced, class 2ish.. a great workout with stunning views. I brought my go pro and they had a go pro helmet for me to use.
Our guide was a riot. Depending on your groups athleticism they will cater the trip. The facilities and lunch before and after are very modern and secure.
Seriously... do this.

They gave great instructions and were very helpful. There were 2 older gentlemen in our group that fell down the stairs/rocks. The guides were kind and gentle in assisting these men.

"Someone’s Making a Lot of Money out of Bali Rafting Experiences"
Personally I am always dubious when any rafting company states in their brochure, “The 1st Rafting Company in Bali”. Hang on a minute, Sobek Bali Rafting Company also states exactly the same, surely both can’t possibly be right? Sounds like there are some Bali-tour-operators with massive egos involved over here! Compared to Australia, Bali rafting does NOT come cheap, as one might anticipate being on holiday in Bali. Why is that?...it was only 1.5 hours on the water!
We booked our river rafting trip through our booking agent and we were happy with their choice of service provider. This was Jenny’s ‘first time ever’ rafting experience (whereas Andrew has been guiding on rivers for the past 35+ years) so we both appreciated that everything was organised well. This included our transfer from the Ayung Resort which is also situated along the high steep banks of the Ayung River further North.
Yes, you will get wet and there are showers at the end. However, as we were possibly the oldest couple in our group, there are the 500+ stairs that you have to climb down into the Ayung valley, and then at the end of the 2-hours of rafting there are the 400+ stairs that you have to climb to get back out of the valley. Our trip also included lunch at the end, which was pretty average and most dishes pretty much tasted all the same – even a bit bland? Of course, all drinks cost extra.
We both enjoyed the day’s rafting experience and it was a little bit fun. The rapids were very mild (only grade 2 - 3 rapids). Our rafting guide was very funny and he certainly made the trip for us. Personally, we cannot believe these river guides only get paid $4 (AUD) for each raft trip they complete. This could equate to two trips per day, which is possibly $8 for the whole day!
Of course, this is a multi-million dollar industry, is it not? Keep in mind, this all runs on the sweat and blood of the local Balinese people. Sounds like Mr Nigel Mason is making a heck of a lot of money out of the rafting en-mass tourism industry over here in Bali, let alone all the other ventures his family-owned business is pushing throughout Bali.
HIGHLIGHTS (PROS):
* The pick-up service was from our resort was included in package.
* The forest views along the river are stunning & so too are the carvings in the river bank are beautiful (particularly around the Ayung Resort section of the river).
* The river is not cold and does not require wetsuits (although it could get cool if it was also raining).
* Recommend it to anyone staying in the Ubud area, not in surrounding districts (time-wasting sitting in a vehicle).
* The lunch (if included) is a welcomed treat, so too are the hot showers.
* Vehicle shuttle back to your resort is a great service provided.
CONS:
* This company does NOT employ any female Rafting River Guides, for some strange reason?
* The cost of a 1.5-hour rafting trip is VERY expensive compared to AU equivalent (& not the same SAFETY STANDARDS either!).
* There are a heck of a LOT of steps down to the rafting starting point & then again climbing up out of the river valley there are even more stairs.
* The dude giving the ‘safety’ briefing to our HUGE massive group, was VERY hard to hear & understand him!!!
* Your River Guide may not speak English very well & directive rafting commands MAY VARY widely between guides on any given rafting trip.
* There is NO such thing as a ‘Safe River’ (contrary to the guide's brief) as ALL white water rivers are potentially dangerous as well as contain numerous hazards & perils including bamboo sticks often pointing directly at both rafts & anything else ‘floating’ in the water (eg. bodies).
* Our rafting group found the rafting guide’s commands often confusing & contradictory!
* River Guides only get paid $4 (AU equivalent) for each trip they run (we all chipped in & tipped our guide very well for his services).
* Photo’s of your raft can be purchased (they are EXPENSIVE!) & video costs even more.

Well organised. Great rafting. The cycling however was shorter than expected and don't expect any real trails. It's a slow ride through villages.

Fun rafting, its good for beginner. I love the peace and scenery, smell of the jungle. Just prepare yourself for 500stairs down and 300 for going up. Going up is the hardest one especially after you have your rafting. Their bathroom and locker was great so you feel safe to keep your stuff (If you want to bring your phone or dry t-shirt along the trip, they also provide a dry bag / couple). Shower was great, hot water and wrap with warm towel after 2h rafting is awesome! I love the mixed juice they have here and the buffet dinner they provide after rafting
