Spectacular stay. I was here as part of a trip to celebrate my graduation, and my partner had indicated this to one of the staff members to arrange for a special note to be written and left in the room. When we arrived, the note was accompanied by a delicious cake. I thought this was a nice touch. To my surprise, as our stay progressed, there were multiple staff members across the property who knew me by name and congratulated me on my graduation. This was a fine touch!
The property is breathtaking, with a sense of grandeur palpable the moment you enter the resort and take a look into the valley in which all the suites and villas are built on. On arrival the general manager Ana came to greet us and made us feel welcome, and made her rounds during breakfast on other days as well to ensure guests were having a good time. We had a personal butler Bruce, who was attentive and very helpful. Special shout out to Wanana, the yoga instructor who gave us our morning yoga lesson and a rice pounding lesson. Very knowledgeable about local traditions and practices and personable. Overall, the service was impeccable.
Food: we had breakfast at Sawah Terrace, which was excellent and has an amazing view of the Ayung River, but I must specially mention dinner at Kubu. We felt that it was the best dining experience we had in our lives - Michelin star quality! We had reservations for one of their Riverside cocoons, and the ambiance was something else.
Definitely a place worth visiting, even if it is for a short time.

The place is amazing. Like old palace in beautiful nature. The standard villa is not totally discreet but over outstanding view.
Food is average same as most of Bali hotels. However, kubu restaurant worth to book dinner because the view over the river.
Staff so friendly so professional.

Beautiful view overseeing Arung Jeram river and padi field from the high cleef Cafe managed by Ritz Carlton. The food is quite standard for a 5 star resort and the price for afternoon tea is about 250k Rupiah. Basically you pay for the view. Located in Ubud at a hidden area through a narrow road, you won't see the grandeur of the resort until you hit the balcony. Suddenly the entire resort development beneath which is surronded by the cliff and the said river is there to shock and to satisfy your eye-sight. The room rate starts at 7 million Rupiah. Need car to reach there. There are buggies to drive you around within the resort.

The best birthday I have had. Unfortunately I went during the night. Would have loved to have taken in the sights over lunch. Kooba was a once in a lifetime experience for me!

The best restaurant we've ever been to in the world. The view is magic and the food even better.

Celebrated my birthday at Mandapa with the 8-course tasting menu. The location is beautiful, right along the river, and the ambiance was amazing. I was seated in a private cocoon with views of the river. The mocktails are delicious! I tried a couple. The price is expensive for Bali, but right in line for a 5*, 8- course tasting menu. A couple of the courses were a miss for me, including the foie gras. I couldn't appreciate the sweetness of the jam with the liver; however, I was pleasantly surprised by the tuna/burrata dish. My favorite dish was the Wagyu beef; flavorful and tender. The staff is amazing!! Very attentive and pleasant. They even planned a birthday surprise for me!! Overall, I had a great experience with some very good food.

Beautiful scenery. The restaurant is in front of the river. We had dinner at Kubu and sat in a cocoon. A very romantic atmosphere

Beautiful place right before Ayung river. The villa was comfortable. Service was excellent. It was an enjoyable stay.

The best dinner place in Bali. Period. The feeling of having exclusivity right by the river, while eating delicious food was phenomenal. Our waitress was great and prompt, and being vegetarians, we were delighted to know that they had taken the pains to create a completely separate vegetarian menu. The view, and the setup was unique too!

Although we were really looking for the Kubu restaurant where we had anticipated an exclusive meal given the secrecy of the location, we encountered an incredible resort. Pity it was in the evening but what a beautiful establishment.
Kubu on the other is hand is a fine dining restaurant experience with impeccable service. The private cocoons of the restaurant form the pleasant setting. There are two menus- one with 6 courses the other with 8 courses. A wine pairing is also available to compliment the meals. The little surprises and palate cleansers in between are a special treat.
After 6 meals one is left slightly uncertain which was their favourite. Altogether a lovely experience to try out on an evening in Ubud. Go hungry and prepared to pay a premium price. I'd say it's worth it!

Really Amazing & Cozy Hotel to stay in Ubud Bali. Great view of green scenery surrounding the hotel, friendly hotel staff and fun experience of buggy ride while heading to the room (must try sitting on the back seat of buggy car). Highly recommended and absolutely will come back to have another fun & sweet moments here

This hotel is a total gem!
Pictures don't tell or express what the reality is!
We made a deep research of Ubud in order to decide where to stay for a honeymoon.
There are a lot of 5 stars luxury hotels in Ubud that are very recommended by a lot of different people we know.
Mandapa has been open for only two years and that is why not much people have heard about it but for sure it is the best (and the newest) hotel in Ubud!
It is a huge reserve with only 60 rooms or less, they have their own incredible rice fields and a river that crosses in the middle of the hotel. The villas are huge with their own pool and a poolhouse and fully decorated with great taste!
Everything is clean and smells really nice!
The staff is very nice and attentive all the time. Food and drinks are amazing (lychee martini was my favorite).
The spa is wonderful with a jacuzzi that has the best view straight to the river and all the nature that surrounds this pace.
There are different activities and classes scheduled every day included and private upon request and additional charge.
Mandapa didn't cease to amaze me every time we came into our villa, or out to breakast, or when we were on the road in the golf cart up to the lobby. Everything is breathtaking in this place!
Also, they have Kubu restaurant for dinner which was my favorite restaurant in Bali.
Don't stay in another place in Ubud! This is by far the best hotel in town!

We had an amazing experience at Mandapa Reserve. The staff were amazing, great food, very clean and much more than just a hotel. This is easily the best resort in Ubud! I would highly recommend it!

The Ritz-Carlton Reserve has once again created a haven unlike any other for its guest, easily standing out from the rest of the luxury retreats located in Ubud. In September of 2015 they opened the doors to only the third Reserve in the world. A retreat designed with tranquility in mind, it is the landscape and its nature inspired accents that will surely captivate your mind and soul as soon as you enter the oasis known as the Mandapa.
The Mandapa is a luxurious five star resort, nestled among the spiritual Balinese landmarks and rich cultural traditions of Ubud. The hotel has been designed to resemble a Balinese village, with working rice paddies, organic farm and garden located throughout the property. This is not your everyday hotel, bringing forth all the key elements needed to create the perfect oasis for its guests; tranquility, an escape from the outside world, the total package all wrapped into a beautifully crafter cultural oasis.
The Mandapa hotel features 35 luxury suites and 25 private pool villas. The pool villas come in 3 arrangements, a one bedroom, two-bedroom, or three-bedroom configuration. They all come with their own pool, living room and deep soaker tube, which is designed to make you feel like you are bathing outside among nature. One addition luxury is each room has its own private butler to help make your stay that much more special and personalized.
The rooms at the Mandapa each have their own exquisite design, bringing forth the true Balinese culture found throughout Ubud. Larger than life plant-filled paintings made especially for the hotel fill the rooms at the Mandapa. They are unquestionably the main focus of the room and are a large component of the style that flow throughout the room. The bedroom features bright colorful accents, with neutral earthy base tones.
The hotel features a state-of-the-art spa, which is based off the six pillars of wellness. You can truly find a moment of relaxation in one of the 8 treatment rooms tucked away in the Ubud jungle. They offer traditional Balinese healing treatments; detox treatments, and ESPA treatments. They also offer the guest yoga classes in the mornings and afternoon for those who wish to join.
Wonder why the hotel is called Mandapa? It means temple, once again instilling the true meaning of the Balinese culture into this hotels design.
The property features four luxury restaurants, which include a variety of foods from Indonesian and Mediterranean cuisine along with fresh ingredients from the hotel’s farm. You can also reserve a special dinner throughout the property should you be looking for something a little more special. The staff at the Mandapa look to ensure you are completely satisfied with your stay and are some of the most helpful and attentive hotel staff you will ever meet. Look to reserve a dinner in one of the cocoons at the Cocoon Restaurant for you and your loved one. I highly recommend it.

Inside the room is very comfortable and luxurious facilities. Excellent naturalistic atmosphere and unique Balinese farming activities for any inhouse guests. Amazing architectural Suites and Villas building concept. What a friendliest and very professional staff of The Ritz-Carlton Mandapa Ubud to all guests.

Good hotel with perfect service. Everything is fast and effective. Rooms are spacious. View is pleasant. It is located 4 km from Ubud center, so you need to take taxi every time you go to the town. The only real minus for me is the coffee table of a strange shape (on the photo) I struck my feet against sevral times.
Willie Vu (29/03/2017 14:46)
Friendly and attentive staff. Cocoon at Kubu and Dinner Beyond are must try dinner experience. Excellent good!

Truly an extraordinary property thanks to an unforgettable setting in the forests of Ubud, delicious local fare, a masterful team ready to make your stay special, and endless activities to explore. The pool villas are well worth it. Don't miss the yoga and infinity jacuzzi pool in the spa, nor the amazing (and included) breakfast spread

Stopped by for a drink and a snack. The view was absolutely breathtaking and the property is amazing. Food and drinks were solid as well. Not sure if I'd stay here myself (I really love the Alila hotels), but definitely a major contender.

Beautiful resort hotels located in mountain and rice field area in Bali. Not close to the beach area but surrounded by beautiful nature and rich cultural villages and historic temples.
B Clark (04/10/2016 01:48)
A beautiful setting for an amazing looking resort. The food is excellent and the staff are overwhelmingly friendly and helpful. However, there are some downsides - its situated on such a steep hill that you have to take a buggy to get just about everywhere and calling and waiting for them can get tedious. Also, they claim to be child-friendly and have a kids club but really its all about honeymooners, our kids used the kids club one afternoon and enjoyed it, but they were the only ones there and from looking at the sign in sheet no-one had used it for the last few days, and there were no other kids around. Also I couldnt find a room configuration that was ideal, we ended up with 2 connecting rooms, but this was massive and way more than we needed.
Mimmi Dahlström (15/11/2016 09:08)
A truly MAGIC experience.
In the Djungle surrounded by Rice fields an a tranquillity Hard to find anywhere else in Ubud.
Top notch. It doesn't get better than this!
Don't miss their fine dining restaurant Kubu when on Bali!
Perfect and very fiendly staff everywhere you go.

Spectacular view with the excitement of watching the rafters passing by the villas. A relaxing sound of the continues water flow from the Ayung river. A standard Ritz Carlton meal quality and presentation.
Evan Sidarto (26/03/2016 11:36)
This is a newly opened resort (6-months) and at the time of this review, the newest of Ritz Carlton's reserve properties. They are a class above the standard properties and there are only four of them in the world (Puerto Rico, Mexico, Phulay Bay, and this one, Mandapa).
This is probably the best hotel property I've been to, but then I say that without having gone to many resort hotels in my lifetime, much less in the Ubud area. That said, the entire experience was amazing, beginning with the check-in experience. The moment we arrived, we were greeted by Ana, the general manger of the property. She saw the launch of the Mandapa resort from the very beginning. The staff provided a unique welcome drink (loloh cem cem (some local herbal drink) mixed with coconut) and a lei (flowers around your neck). They take you to the lobby, which is the highest point of the entire village and has a commanding view of the valley beneath, with green rice paddies, gently rolling hills and the Ayung River. It's quite an impressive first sight. Ana and her team explains a bit about the property, which features 60 villas and suites, two swimming pools, a luxury spa and active excursions like rafting (which we did and highly recommend). Meanwhile, our luggage were silently transported to our rooms, as if they already knew were we stayed. After the brief welcome, we hit the buggies and were on our way. There are two main types of rooms, the suites (room) and villa (which is your own private "house"). The villa has its own pool, while guests of the suites need to use the main pool.
Why do I like this place?
- Exclusivity - that's probably true with any private resort, but what makes this special is that the staff are really well trained to pay attention to the details. For example, some of the folks who drove me around in the buggy didn't even have to ask me where I was going, they just knew where we stayed.
- Everything looks new. Because it is. This place was opened in the past 6 months.
- The kids love it - ok, I know it's easy to entertain kids when you have a pool and a kids center, but if they like it, I like it.
- They keep re-stocking all the amenities even if we don't ask - for example, I asked for a few more bottles of water. The next day, they knew that I wanted more water and automatically stocked more water in the room, without my asking.
- Activities were great - we learned about how to plant rice, make jamu (herbal drink), water rafting (independent company but the hotel will help you book), kids activity center, cocktails, etc. In all cases, the hotel staff were super friendly and helpful. One thing about rafting. The company name is called Sobek, and if you are staying here, tell them to drop you off at Mandapa, so you can just walk back to your room, since the resort has a place for rafts to drop you off. This is another awesome benefit about staying here.
What could be done better:
- Maintenance - it wasn't a big deal for us, but this is the only thing that would need improvement. For example, the aircon in the villa living room bungalow (separate from the main villa) was blowing warm air, even though we had set the temperature at 18C. We called and nothing was really done about it. We didn't push further since we didn't really use the living room. Same thing with the lights in the private pool.
Overall we had an excellent time and I'd highly recommend this place to others. Definitely.
Harrison Boyd (18/03/2016 21:39)
Absolutely amazing place full of the best amenities and excellent service staff. Every detail was thought through and everyone on the grounds knew your name. We had to leave very late for a flight and the resort was very accommodating
The dining on site was amazing as well. The Kubu restaurant was very special and excellent food - very comparable to Toronto or Chicago.
Overall, I would strongly recommend this place.
ARIEF SOETRISNO (13/11/2015 04:02)
The service is as good as the building, it is the right place to get away from the routine life. The food also very very good, I love the home made bacon. Home made bacon is not something that you can easily find in another hotel or restaurant.
The first impression which is the welcome drink and sweets are served in an artistic way, not in the public area but in a very private way in your suite by people with smile. I love this.
