Beautiful and spacious Javanese Bungalows surrounded by tropical plants of a typical plantation (coffee, cacao, nutmeg, banana,..). Owners and staff are amazing. The most peaceful place I could possibly think of.

This amazing resort buried in the jungle of Mt Batukaru is world class. The accommodation faultless and tastefully done to compliment the environment. Food is exceptionally good. The staff are attentive and competent. For a relaxing peaceful environment it is the closest place that I can imagine to heaven. The owners are engaging and delightful to be with. Leaving was like saying goodby to your close family. It was an experience that will not be forgotten.

Simply astonishing. Very beautiful and private villas spread over a big curated plot of jungle. Wake up to the songs of exotic birds, have pancakes for breakfast, enjoy beautiful walks in their jungle. Very friendly owners and staff. Very happy to have been here.

The peaceful rainforest, gorgeous teak villas, and delicious food of Alassari are all magnificent (just simply take a look at the photos), but Craig and Valarie took our stay to another level as they are terrific hosts who look to make a true connection with each of their guests; thanks for the great chats. In fact, all the staff are wonderfully pleasant and accommodating. We had an amazing time. Thank you!

We cannot rate our three-night stay at Alassari high enough. After being in busy Ubud, the serenity of the rainforest was what we needed. It is surely off the beaten path and those who make the trek will be rewarded. We love how immersed the villas are among the elements of the preserved rainforest. The Villa Lima was the perfect size for a couple. Sleeping in an ultra comfortable bed with soft bamboo linen and listening to the sounds of nature made for deep sleeps. The Javanese architecture is stunning as there's hand carved teak panels and beautiful decor within the building. So much thought was put into the details. Making espresso in the morning and sitting on the balcony overlooking the lush forest and listening to the birds was the best way to start the day.
There are plenty of walks to do within the property. Do wear shoes with grip as it can easily slippery when wet. Walk over the suspension bridge, pass the organic veggie garden and fruit trees, listen to the birds, and wind down to the waterfalls.
The food at the restaurant is flavorful and always fresh. Most of the food comes from the garden or sourced as locally and ethically as possible. The included breakfast was a great deal! As a vegetarian, I appreciated the extensive veggie options. Oh and save room for dessert! The homemade ice cream, cheesecake, and fried bananas are rich in flavor yet still delicate. You won't find MSG or chemicals in any of the food.
We also appreciated that Craig and Val keep sustainability in mind when sourcing locally, keeping chemicals off the property and integrating the local community.
The best part is the staff. The owners, Craig and Val, take the time to get to know guests and truly want to share this paradise with everyone. Their love story is inspiring and you can feel that their love was poured into Alassari. I'm so glad to have met them and feel rejuvenated with their energy and happiness. They are such genuine people.
The staff is also professional and friendly. They went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. We loved chatting with them to learn about Balinese culture as many of them grew up right in the surrounding village. They are excited to meet guests from around the world so don't be shy to share your culture with them!
Overall, Alassari is the perfect place to wind down and live in the present moment. It's for nature lovers who also are seeking some luxury with a pool, gym, spa, and yoga class. Alassari has something for you as a romantic getaway, honeymoon, family holiday, or solo spiritual retreat. Since there are only 6 rooms at the moment, book early to avoid disappointment because they're getting busy!
Us Against The World (25/06/2017 15:30)
We have been traveling in Asia for two months and can honestly say the Alassari is one of the highlights of our trip. Tired of being on the road, our 4-night stay was just the break we needed to recharge. Everything at Alassari Plantation got us into relaxing mode, from the facilities to the surrounding nature, from the food to the people.
Facilities
The resort has a main building with a terrace restaurant and gym, swimming pool with barbecue deck, yoga studio and spa in the middle of the forest, tree house and 6 villas. They're spread out across the property in a way that allows for privacy, so we felt like we had the forest all to ourselves while laying on a lounge chair, reading and contemplating the view from our porch. Our villa was absolutely gorgeous, with a luxurious yet homey feel to it. The living room had a leather couch facing a flat screen TV. We had an espresso machine, fridge stocked with drinks and a vintage desk where I spent hours writing.
The room had amazing little details but the bed was the central piece. Fluffy pillows, warm blankets, and bamboo sheets - we fell asleep almost immediately every night and woke up to the sounds of nature every morning. One of my favorite things was the shower in the bathroom - it was covered for privacy but open enough that we could enjoy the view as if we were outside. Reminded me of a Brazilian telenovela set in the Amazon rain forest. So sexy!
Nature
The Alassari sits at 750m above sea level on Mount Batukaru. It is a natural rainforest where we walked through sugar palms and coffee plantations. We crossed a suspended jungle bridge with the sound of running water guiding us to a cascading waterfall. And the star-studded night sky? Fairytale-like. There are lots of activities offered from cooking classes to tours of the rice fields, but we just stayed in the property taking in the magical atmosphere of the mountain. We also tried yoga for the first time which left us feeling even more relaxed!
Food
Hands down some of the best food we had in Bali! From Balinese to Western fusion, the restaurant serves gourmet cuisine from a very well crafted menu. There are also lots of vegetarian options and an extensive beverage menu, including swanky cocktails, fresh fruit juices, and a nice wine list. Everything tasted fresh, which is no wonder since they use local produce and veggies/fruit straight from their garden.
We had so many good meals it's hard to mention everything but one of the dishes that stood out was the Chicken Kemul. A pan-fried chicken breast stuffed with mango served with turmeric sauce and asparagus. Filling, healthy, exotic and absolutely delicious. On the Indonesian side, we loved the Sumatran chicken curry. For dessert, we kept ordering the baked cheesecake which was served with dragon fruit and a scoop of the best vanilla ice-cream we've ever had. Seriously, it was so good that at one point my husband actually asked for two extra scoops. They make it in-house with coconut milk so it's actually dairy free. Super creamy and light at the same time. For breakfast, try the pancakes or the papaya yogurt - heavenly.
People
The facilities, nature, the food... all that would've been enough to place the Alassari atop the list of highlights on this trip. However, it's the people we met that made this such a memorable experience. The staff is genuinely nice and happy to greet you with a smile every day. The owners, Craig and Valarie, welcomed us as if we were family members coming home for a long awaited visit. They introduced us to their friends and invited us to dinner parties full of interesting conversations where we also met other guests. This community environment is what made us miss the Alassari as soon as we left.
I'd say the Alassari is a luxury wellness retreat, perfect for nature lovers and couples seeking a romantic escapade. For a couple of travelers disappointed with the touristy feel we encountered all over the island, this remote place in Tabanan was where we got to experience the real Bali.

I had the most amazing and awesome time at Alassari Plantation, I did not want to leave. Tucked away, it is truly a slice of heaven with all of its natural beauty and features. The freshness of the mountain air coupled with the sounds of fresh running water and the trill of birds and wildlife all hours of the day with the tropical smell of the beautiful flowers truly provides the feeling of being totally immersed in natures wonders. The many green colours are so lush and inviting you wander around in awe at the stunning gardens and foliage throughout. The accommodation is first class with all the comforts provided from fresh crisp bed linen to sumptuous soft bath towels not to mention the incredible assortment of natural soaps, shampoo and moisturisers in your very own private villa with stunning mountain views. In between lazing around the beautiful pool and bar area there is plenty to explore with the incredible river, the amazing bridge and bush walks. Then relax with one of the best massages and aromatherapy experiences in a unique hut environment where you are literally floating as if on a cloud, or indulge in a yoga session that is simply out of this world. When it is time for a cocktail or meal wander up to the incredible verandah with sweeping views of the vista that simply take your breath away. Whether breakfast, lunch or dinner the view is second only to the excellent friendly service of the wait staff and the wonderful servings of fresh local and tropical food that delight all of your senses as you relax and indulge in culinary perfection. Truly a place to relax and reinvigorate the senses and well being among natures finest attributes coupled with excellent service, facilities and staff. Thank you Craig and Val for a MOST WONDERFUL stay and experience in your slice of heaven - Alassari.
