WORST BUS TERMINAL EVER – SCAM ALL OVER
To/from BROMO: There‘s supposed to be a bus for 35.000 each for 15 people that also locals use. However, it seems they just take tourists, keep the locals somewhere else and try to get with as little people as possible. The few tourists that are there (in our case 5) need to pay 500.000 for the whole bus. No negotiations possible. Even if you arrive there early morning and wait for hours... no locals showing up to go to Cemoro Lawang. We’ve also heard that a few years ago the price was 250.000. Clearly an organized rip off.
To BANYUWANGI: Avoid taking the bus! Go by train! Scammers! We heard the official price for a local style economy bus should be 50.000.
However, a young guy convinces us to pay 150.000 for the so-called executive bus, promoting only 4 hours of driving, AC and a toilet on board. A sticker on the bus even promotes wifi. Of course, that’s the first thing we realized that it’s not existing, but hey... After 2,5 hours we stop in Jembe (less than half way). Driver tells us we have to change bus, because his is broken. Then they transfer us to a really old local economy bus. Do you think we got our money back? Of course not. Do you think it took us forever to go to Banyuwangi? Of course.
Good luck with these scammers.

Too many motor bike driver that force their service on people. Very awful experience. If you ended up in a situation where a driver ask you repeatedly to use their overpriced service or even chase you, just say there is already a friend or family member picking you up at the end of the street. Most of them usually back down.

having been to the terrible place in mid 2014, I have to say this is the worst bus station I have been to ever. The chaotic bus station is filled with touts who push you buying service you don't need and bus mafias who try their best to rip you off in bus fares, and they are all quite intimidating and reckless in doing their job.
Example 1: when you on board the bus to Bali, some local bus mafias may get on the bus and collect inflated bus fare from you aggressively. In worse cases, someone may threaten you that you are on the wrong bus and will force you to go to their bus, and if you follow them, they may drop you to somewhere in the middle of nowhere and charge you extra for a subsequent bus ride to your destination. It costs both money and time, and ruins your mood by saying yes to them! Therefore, under all circumstances, politely and firmly say no and tell them that you will pay for the bus after it starts regardless of how intimidating they are behaving.
Example 2: When you on board the minivan to Bromo, the touts may tell you that it is hard to book accommodation and find transportation back to probolinggo, and they may push you to book accommodation/minibus through them. Don't listen to them as there are enough vacancies and you will definitely find minivans going down the hill.
Have fun in Bromo Volcano and don't let these scumbags ruin your trip!

Such a shame of Indonesian bus terminal. My deepest sympathy and sorry for all Local Guides who experience bad things here. If the government really want to increase the numbers of international tourists, fixing our bus services is one good start.

Hell is what you might call this bus terminal! Trust no one! If trying to get to Bali, don't let them send you through jember! Don't give anyone your money until your bus is moving, don't board your bus until you asked driver the price! If your going up the mountain, the Vans leave from outside the terminal down the street.. pay no more than 35 per person to get to Cemoro lawang! And only 5 from train station to here! And remember to watch your stuff! This place will make you want to leave the city immediately, but see the volcanos for free first. Don't pay for expensive tour, you can walk for free!

Scammers abound. Touts tell all tourists that the public bus for 35 000 has not enough people and instantly direct them to a transport option of not their choice. I waited from 1 pm on sunday for 5 hrs at the public colt bus station 100 m t the right with 2 sumatran students. Surely many tourists pass through here daily. Evil spirits.

Touts and scammers are everywhere. Especially for bromo tour. Go outside the terminal, turn right to find bisons (minivan to cemara lawang village)

Bus station and its facilities are dirty. Can't find clear information about bus departure. It's also hard to find a decent food stall. People usually ignore smoking room and smoke anywhere they like. Beware of pick-pocket.

Getting from Surabaya to here is easy. Take the "patas" (express) bus. Do not pay anyone outside, just walk into the bus and pay the driver 30.000 (May 2017). Getting from Probolinggo to Surabaya is hard, lots of scammers trying to get 60k for the busride. Cut out the middleman and ask someone inside the bus for the price. I paid 35k (May 2017), just walked into the bus and paid on the ride here.

Very important. when you are boarding in a bus to Surabaya or banyuwangi or denpasar, do not talk about ticket price. ask a local and when bus moves the conductor will come and collect. Do not give anyone any money before bus moves . Bromo minibus stand is just outside this but you need to wait for 15 people. very bad bus station because of agents in this area. learnt the hard way.

The current bus station of Probolinggo City. Keep an eye on your belongings.

Bemo and ojek to cemoro lawang located outside/infront the terminal. Avoid the annoying travel agent opposite this terminal.

Almost everyone tries to cheat you with all kinds of scam here! Be super careful and don't trust anyone. Probably the worst place that I' ve visited during my long trip in Indonesia... However, there is a small turist agency with amazing woman that can help you arrange safe trip to all major turist attractions.
