" A beautiful mountain with easy access. If you're looking for sunrise, make sure to find and reserved your spot early, because it usually crowded and also choose your view point wisely (Pananjakan was great and most popular, but others were also unique and usually less crowded). Remember to bring your own warm equipments (Jackets, mask) even if they're available on site.
29 May 2018Solo travelers are recommended to join an open trip, it's so much cheaper and easier than private trip. Tour agents can easily be found through browsing. If you're planning on renting horse to climb the top, make sure to pay after they take you back (not before or in the middle) to make sure they won't leave you at the top.
Also get ready for pricey foods and toilets, always ask before you get or buy anything. "

" Amazing beautiful place! The volcano landscape is simply stunning!
28 May 2018But please checkout the weather before you go, because you definitely do not want to go during the rainy season. "

" A unique place.
27 May 2018Such an amazing landscape. The colours there are incredible.
The view on Mt. Bromo is taking your breath away.
If you go there early in the morning you can enjoy a wonderful sunrise.
This is definitely one of the best places in Java.
You should definitely go there!!! "

" Awesome place!! I has been being very impressed with this place. I love the weather and the wonderful view, valley is covered by much of the moving fog. You are gonna find another heaven when the sun rises. This place is the top five in my heart. I promise I'm gonna find the happiness again at Bromo. I really love it. "

" Mount Bromo, A Spectacular Indonesia Mountain
20 May 2018Located some 4 hours drive from Surabaya, the capital of East Java, Mount Bromo is a part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park that covers a massive area of 800 square km. While it may be small when measured against other volcanoes in Indonesia, the magnificent Mt Bromo will not disappoint with its spectacular views and dramatic landscapes. At 2,392 meters tall, Mt Bromo is not among the tallest of Indonesia’s mountains but its stunning beauty lies in its incredible setting.
From a vantage point on Mount Penanjakan (2,770 meters above sea level), 2.5 hours from Malang. visitors from around the world come to see the sunrise over Mt Bromo. From this spot the vista is magnificent. All you will hear is the click of cameras as visitors snap their camera’s hoping to capture the incredible scene of Mt Bromo in the foreground with Mt Semeru smoking in the distance and the sun shining brightly, quickly rising in the sky.
The eerie landscape has spurned countless legends and myths. Mt Bromo has particular significance for the Tengger people who believe that this was the site where a brave prince sacrificed his life for his family. The people here appease the Gods once a year during the annual Kasada festival where offerings of vegetables, chickens and money are thrown into the crater of the volcano.
Get There
To reach Mount Bromo, you can fly to Juanda international airport in Surabaya. There are direct flights to Surabaya from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hongkong, Jakarta and Bali. From there, continue your journey to Mt Bromo by booking with a travel agent, or driving the Surabaya-Pasuruan-Wonokitri-Mt Bromo route. The journey will take 2-3 hours. It is best for you to leave Surabaya at 23:00 PM - 24:00 AM in order to arrive in time for sunrise. Or you can stay overnight at one of the hotels at Prigen, Tretes, to make sure that you are on the crater rim before sunrise. Ponies can take you across the sand sea to the bottom of the steep stairs that leads to the crater. "

" A good experience in life time to visit the active volcano, Mount Bromo is must for you traveling to Indonesia. I started at 3am for the sunrise on the top of the mountain near by and followed by the clip up to Mount Bromo. It was the perfect time starting early in the morning as it was colder and more quiet. The volcano was very good to visit, but you have to be very careful when you are up there. I don’t recommend for any oldies. "
17 May 2018Riswandi Sudarso
" A typical Mount Bromo tour consists of viewing the sun rise over it, and then going all the way up to the crater. The overall experience can be really enjoyable, provided one knows what to expect. Remember to keep one word in mind: “crowds.” This will help in understanding what to expect.
09 May 2018The best viewpoint to see the sunrise over Mount Bromo is that of Mount Penanjakan. Jeeps and cars usually drop passengers off as close as possible to the entrance to the park, from where they have to walk all the way to the viewpoint.
This would hardly be an issue, where it not for the fact that, although it is still completely dark outside, the area is incredibly crowded already, with cars and jeeps parked on each side of the road, forcing pedestrians to walk in the middle of the street. All the while, more cars, jeeps and motorbikes (the latter offering an additional taxi service to the entrance) drive by, completely disregarding the presence of pedestrians. "
Anthracius Bacilius
" It was an easier place to climb compared to Ijen but it was worth waking up early in the morning for the sunrise. It is also surreal being able to look into the crater from a close distance. The street peddlers at the mountain village can be quite aggressive with their sales approach so you got to be very firm when you say no. "
03 May 2018Merlin Tristano
" A beautiful destination that is unfortunately rather poorly maintained. Some roads were crumbling. You’re constantly harassed by locals soliciting their horses and motorbikes. Admission into a national park shouldn’t be so costly and complicated. I suspect there are all sort of corrupt practices going on. "
11 April 2018Mohammad Abdullah Shihab
" One of the best natural beauty I have ever seen. Walking through the cloud, enjoying the sunrise and experience an active volcano...it's just mind blowing. "
06 April 2018Khairul Umam
" One of the best sunset in my life. I just cannot handle the temperature. Make sure you cover yourself with multiple layer of clothes. Overall, all the efforts was paid off. "
04 April 2018Jiří Š
" The biggest attraction here. All people have to go to the Bromo and see the crater of vulcan. Amazing to see. But be carrefull - all people want to take your money here - at first they disable to go there by car - necessary to take the jeep - from villages before - FAKE - use your car to the end, no problem, the way is okay. After the main entrance gate - fee is 350 000 Rp - little bit enough I think. After jeep again, horses...Oh god. But nice view, go to Bromo! "
22 March 2018Iqbal Mahrus
" one of the top destinations in east Java. good for a family vacation, couples, single (adventurer, traveller, etc.)
19 March 2018tip: make sure you click forecast before you go as the weather now is unpredicted. wheelchair user has a limited space to explore. "
HJC Thijssen
" Popular volcano visited by Indonesians and international tourists. Around the Mount Bromo area it is possible to find a hotel or guesthouse. Tracking is mostly done from early morning since the temperature from noon can get above 40 °C. With special vehicles it is possible to get to the parking area and from there you walk or hire a horse. "
14 March 2018Fathi Rizqi Ananda
" Enjoyed my experience on getting to the top of this Mountain. Well, I took Jeep from the base, but I still have to walk to the top. Horses are available to rent if you want easy way, but back then I didn't bring enough money for it, I didn't even buy a cup of Indomie. So, I hiked without a breakfast. Totally tiring and exhausting, but worth it. "
19 February 2018Globe In The Hat
" The best mountain in East Java, great sunrise, wonderful view.
28 January 2018But, I was a bit confused why for us (bule) foreigners, ticket is more more expensive than locals? Not only ticket, rent horse, hostel also expensive for foreigners. A bit not fair. :) "
Daphne Ting
" I loved Mt Bromo! The homestay owners were really nice and friendly and the place was cleaner than I imagined. Jeep ride was fun and while the sunrise wait was long and freezing, it was worthwhile. Many stars in the night sky and breathtaking view of the entire area when the sun came up. Do climb up Bromo for a closeup view of the volcano! It’s worth it! "
08 January 2018Michal Karol
" Go there in the afternoon. Hike is easy from the village and almost nobody along the way. Take flashlight in case you climb the second mountain and return after sunset. The sound of the volcano is amazing! "

" We went to Seruni Hill to see the Bromo sunrise from above. The view are majestic and magical! During the sunrise, you can see the clouds flowing around and the sky become clearer. You can see the Cemorolawang village, in the edge of another hill. The temperature turns down and windy so it's a bit freezing in the early morning. But we love the view of course! It's really worth the hike. Don't forget to visit the crater.

" Most stunning place I’ve ever seen
13 November 2017Around 250.000 INR for entry but definitely worth the money
Rent a scooter and Go to King Kong hill before sunrise
Then go to the Krater and sea of sand
It’s gonna be amazing "
Paul Hanslip
" This place was phenomenal to experience. The drive to and the accommodation were a story on its own but when you arrive the sheer beauty of the pave wad incredible. I remember freezing my bum the night before the walk up the hills to get the sunrise photo. We went our own direction away from the main groups and the times getting lost, climbing cliffs for a better view all in the dark before waiting for that sunrise will never be lost with me. Sensational place "
11 November 2017Hélder Matos
" An amazing place to visit. Prepare physically before hand but one of the most fantastic places we can visit. Raw sceneries. And a bit dangerous in the top but doable. "
27 October 2017Ela Garini
" Here you can enjoy the beautiful sunrise and the hill landscape. Please ensure that you are in a fit condition as you need to take up the stairs to get to the spot. "
27 October 2017Jean-Nicolas Tremblay
" I simply don't have word to describe this scenic landscape! Never believe something could be that beautiful! Don't miss it! Seeing sunrise from a nearby hill (King Kong hill) is also a must! "
26 October 2017Maik S.
" It was an unbelievable experience to climb Bromo. We did it on our own, first King Kong Hill, then a relaxing walk down through the Sea of Sand, which was impressing as well, and after that the most monumental part of the hike - the crater. I will never forget the majesty of Bromo! "
06 October 2017Dragan Lojpur
" Other worldly landscape. Seeing sunrise from a nearby hill is a must. There is no lava, however, these is smoke and loud noises coming out of the volcano. "
26 September 2017Ahadin Fahmi
" Bromo is a place I ❤. The best 3rd place exotic mountain tour in the world.
21 September 2017Mount Bromo is an active volcano and part of the Tengger massif, in East Java, Indonesia. At 2,329 metres it is not the highest peak of the massif, but is the most well known. The massif area is one of the most visited tourist attractions in East Java, Indonesia. The volcano belongs to the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. The name of Bromo derived from Javanese pronunciation of Brahma, the Hindu Creator God. "
Hendy Odwin
" Amazing place to visit in indonesia. If you want to relax and enjoy on your vacation, this place is perfect for you. "
10 September 2017Budhi Surya Ramadhana
" So tired when we arrive at the top, but it was paid off very well. We ride a horse when get back to park area. Beautiful crater and still active. "
08 September 2017Andy McMullin
" A stunning place like a moonscape. The growing tourism industry here should provide for infrastructure improvements in coming years! "
31 August 2017Valeriia Kava
" Amazing place to visit.
12 August 2017You can take a horse for half way)
It's a great experience to listen sounds of active volcano.
By tonality it's reminds me prayings of Buddhist monks.
The sounds, wind, sun, outstanding view and long route to it are best for meditation. "
Hardjono Santoso
" Active volcanic mountain that you can see from closest distance. Nice view especially to see the sun raise. "
27 July 2017Chee Hean Yeong
" out of this world experience. vast area of sand and sand dunes. stairs up to the caldera but long queue. had to track up using the shifting sand dune sides.
25 July 2017top of crater quite frightening. as with Ijen, the wind shifts suddenly bringing the acrid fumes of sulphur right into your face. the paths very narrow and it's just like an accident waiting to happen. no adequate safety barrier and the dangerous slope down to the active crater is only a small nudge away.
ponies and horses all in waiting to fetch us across the sea of sand.
also don't miss the sunrise at Bromo. the sunrise caused the clouds to 'flow' from the top of the mountain down. very magical. never seen anything like this in south east asia.
long uncomfortable ride from Bromo back to Surabaya. Poverty makes this national natural treasure a blight of abuse by the locals. poor infrastructure and blatant exploitation of the environment for tourism money.
definitely no preservation. sadness of end times. see them before it's gone "
Shuchir Bhatia
" Beautiful Mt Bromo and surrounding sea of sand. Slightly crowded at sunrise. Try to reach by 4 am to get the best spot for views and for clicking photos. "
12 July 2017Erik Rans
" The views are truly amazing but... It was mass tourism at it's worst. Noisy motorbikes jeeps and fumes, litter everywhere, persistent touts. There was a Hindu festival at the time, so maybe things are better when it's not so crowded. "
