" I was travelling in South East Asia for two month and these two days were by far the worst experience ever!! I wouldn't recommend to book a tour with Rinjani Tropis. Unfortunately, we didnt check the reviews online beforehand. We booked a tour for two days, one night. Some of the things that went horribly wrong:
25 January 2018- We should have started the tour at 7:30 am, but started at 10:00 am, with no porters and one guide instead of two.
- At one point the guide was so slow that our group of four was walking alone (and we didnt walk that fast), we had to wait for about an hour for the guide to catch up
- We had lunch at 3 pm instead of 1 pm and waited for an hour to get it
- Because the others (guide and porters, the people who carried the food etc.) were so slow, we were not able to see the sunset (thats why we actually walked up there). Instead, we arrived at 8 pm when it was already dark and had to walk the last 30 min (very steep and slippery) in the darkness.
- On the second day the guides slept in and didnt show us the way to the sunrise.
- Because two of the people in our group did a third day, the one guide walked on with them and the four of us who went back did not have a guide. The guy who was walking down with us was a friend of a friend of the guide and did not know the way down.
- And now the WORST THING: NO WATER ON THE SECOND DAY. We were told they would carry enough water for us (1l for every person each day), but on the second day they had NO WATER at all. So we walked 5 hours down without any water while it was hot. Also, we didnt get any lunch.
When we complained, Husni, the boss, just ignored us and didnt even answer.
There are many many more things that went wrong, those are just some of them.
DON'T GO! "

" Do not book a Rinjani tour with this company!!!
06 November 2017I made the mistake of booking with them before looking at reviews online.
First, a broker overcharged me by 1 million rupiah. I paid 2.5 million, most other people I met paid between 1.2-1.5 million with other companies and got better service and equipment. The owner, Husni, is a liar and can't be trusted. He promised a jacket, trekking poles, and a toilet tent; none of which were provided. The tent was a joke and collapsed on me the second night. The guide and porters were friendly enough, but inexperienced. They did not bring enough water and tried to pass off garbage infested still water that was downstream from human feces as "spring water".
Please do not repeat my mistake! Go with another company. If you see any of the following signs, run away. "

" All the reviews are true - I will add one more piece to the mess - our guide couldn’t carry his own bag, so one of our hikers carried it for him. And the best bit...the guide still couldn’t keep up with the tour!! Shocking! "

" Despite the negative reviews, we booked a 2D/1N package with Rinjani Tropis and we had a really good experience. We were 5 people booking a tour from Kuta, Lombok. We wanted our night in Senaru after the trekking instead of before, which wasn't a problem. And on the way back from Senaru to Kuta, we wanted to stop in Mataram for our visum, which wasn't a problem either. All the people/drivers we met were well up to date about our planning. Our guide was really friendly and our porters made excellent meals and portions were more than big enough. The tent and sleeping bags were good too (although equipment would probably not be up to par for really bad weather). Would recommend them if you are on a budget for sure! Yes we have seen other people with slightly more varied food and more expensive equipment, but not worth the price difference in our eyes. "

" We were very disappointed with this tour. They promised us sponge matts and snacks for evey stop. The guide ran up the mountain and wasn't really a guide. When we said we want to go back down the next day we were sent with the porters who just ran down the hill and gave us half of a bottle of water for going down.
01 October 2017I slept so bad in that night, that I went down the next day. My husband was too tall and we slept down the mountain, the matts were so hard, I turned myself every 5 min.
The food was also very bad, pancakes were not done.
We were very disappointed.
A good thing was that we had a great group of hikers. "

" Worst tour ever. So disappointing. The food was super bad. People were very unfriendly and the camping gear is old, smells and very poor quality. We had the worst night ever and decided to quit.
01 October 2017I would recommend to do the tour by yourself. It is way cheaper and you can bring what you want. Not worth it at all for this money.
Maybe do hiking in the Alps and make the most out of Bali with beaches and massage.
Cheers "

" Worst tour experience ever. Spend some more money and get a better organised and professional tour as this is not an easy trek and should not be underestimated.
19 September 2017We were told we would be a group of 10 people max, we ended up being 12. Because of this, there was not enough water for the ascension (until we reached the base camp), not enough dinner (I ate leftover rice from lunch instead), a guy didn't have a mattress and some people had to share the tents although we were told tents were for two. We were also promised with a toilet tent, but we had nothing.
We had basically no guide and this was the worst part. We didn't see him while hiking up to the base point, nor while doing the summit the following day. The guide, who couldn't communicate properly in English, started the ascension but apparently decided to came back down half way of it (he later told us that he was tired) and slept in his tent for a couple of hours! The ascension is difficult and quite dangerous, can't believe we made it without any guide, he should be there to help us! Some members of the group were still coming back from the top and, obviously, he didn't even know where they were, before the group could continue with the trekking.
The tents were old, some were broken, mattresses were very thin compared to others we saw around us.
Porters were nice, but didn't speak any word of English (you may not need to talk to the porters, but as we had no guide we had to communicate with them for water, directions etc.). Food was ok but it was rubbish compared to other tour groups that had fruit and nice looking dishes. The snack before the ascension at 2:00 was a tea and 5 crackers. Definitively you need much more energy than that to be able to make it to the top. We also had lunch and dinner very late because the porters were always waiting for the guide and he was always lost in combat or late.
As we did the 2 days/1 night trekking while others had the 3 day/2 night one, the guide told us we would need to make our way back with one of the porters (again, no word of English) or, if not, to continue the trekking with the rest for a further day. This is completely unprofessional.
When we gave our feedback to the 'boss' in the office he couldn't care less, so avoid this tour agency at all cost and get something that can be worth the experience. There are plenty of good looking tour agencies out there (we saw many united and supportive groups, comfortable tents, guides taking the clients to the top by the hand, getting sleeping bags to the summit for them...etc), so, please, do yourself a favour and avoid them. "

" Good trekking guide, nice hiking experience but very unprofessional services for a very expensive price (1.7 million for the 2days 1night package... but I realized that pricing depend on the salesman and on your bargaining skills. Some people paid less than me for the 3days 2night package).
02 September 2017The package I was sold included transfer from Bangsal and 1 night stay in what they called a "hostel" in Senaru the night before the trekking. This was actually a veeeeery basic homestay then a hostel in which I was asked to share a double bed (and the blanket, ah!) with a guy I didn't know. Dirty place, no clean linen, no water nor toilet paper. "Included breakfast" was a banana pancake.
The hiking was ok for me cause I already had some experience in hiking and was trained. But the group I was with didn't have the same pace and the guide couldn't really be with everyone at one time.
The food was bad and not enough for such a demanding effort (basically fried rice or noodles for lunch/dinner, one pinapple SLICE per person, coffee or tea and some biscuits from time to time at breaks).
The transfer back to Kuta Lombok took like 6 hours because we were 7 people in the van and everyone had a different destination.
If you going to book the trekking with Tropis be sure you are not in a hurry, you are an experienced trekker and above all be sure to pay way less than I did. Competitors' prices are lower for better services. "
Darika Sartmatova
" You will get 20% of what you paid for at best. The owner is incredibly rude and doesn't care about his clients' well-being (not enough water or sleeping bags or even guides; he got angry when asked about jackets in freezing temperatures..jackets we paid for...). I'd give this "business" 0 stars if I could.
28 July 2017PS: the hike was absolutely breathtaking, just please use a different company. "
Toni Caparrós
" The tour is nothing as they descrived. The prize for reting the equipment is much more expensive, our local guide didn't know how to speak english, we had to wait a lot of hours either for the porters or for the food, we were moost of te tie alone with our guide missing, and we didn't know where to stop or where waas the base, the last day we ony had half liter of water for the full day, and on and on and on.
22 July 2017The first day we were supposed to arrive at 11am to the first checkpoit and we waited for them and arrrived at 14pm, so we finaly went to sleep at 22:30 whe we had to awake at 2am!
They are simply the worst. Absolute liars.
Don't book ANYTHING in Kuta because ay agency use to re-book with them. "
Oihana De Andres
" We booked a 3d/2n Rinjani Tour with Rinjani Tropis. We don't recommend this company for beginners, there was only 1 guide for 11 people, the equipment was broken and the guide and porters were overburned. The guide couldn't manage a team with different fit levels so we made a big part of the trek alone. Is not his fault, 2 guides are necessary in this type of trek.
07 June 2017The transport to the Gilis was included (and written in the invoice) in our package. When we arrived to Bangsal harbour, apparently there was no boat for us. It was almost 6pm and the ticket office was closed. "The captain" of one boat told us that we could go with him but he needed more people to complete the seating capacity. There was not so much passengers (apparently again) and another man came to offers us an immediate departure for an extra cost. We accepted bacause we didn't want to spend 1 night in Bangsal. He took the money and we went to the boat. Surprise! "His boat" was the public boat that we had to take initially.
We were upset and angry and we could not find the liar. He run away with our money.
Be careful with that kind of people!!
Ah! Last thing: Rinjani is beautiful but full of rubbish :( Please do something!! Mountains don't eat rubbish!! "
Rivers Gage-Hunt
" These people are at best extremely disorganized and selfish at worst they are con-men and liars. They will promise everything is included when it is clearly not. They will make you wait hours upon hours for transportation in an uncomfortable non air condidtioned space and act as if you are crazy for mentioning how long you have been waiting. This was not a single occurrence but throughout our three days with this company. The mountain is grueling but spectacular but please choose a different company. The food they promised would be vegetarian which we requested three separate times contained shrimp paste and the tents were Indonesian sized. I am a 6'4" man and the sleeping bag only went to my shoulders and I could not lay straight in my tent which was a problem because the pad was so thin and hard the ground bruised my already sore hips. We talked to many other people on the trail who were very happy with their companies but our entire group which spanned many nationalities and ages all felt absolutely conned and uncared for. "

" We booked a full package 2D/1N start in sembalun and end in senaru. For 2 Mio IDR p.P.. which was maybe a bit to expensive.
13 April 2017We startet at the begining of April. We wanted our private guide for 2 person. Our plan was to start in sembalun, up to the crater rim, go down to the lake and at the other side up to the rim. From there down to senaru. The agency said that this is no problem. I come back later to this issue.
They picked us up in kuta lombok. We stopped in mataram for a short stop to buy better shoes for my girlfriend. Was no Problem. They dropped us in senaru at rinjani homestay. Unfortunately the room was very dirty without a sink .. ive been to a lot of very cheap places in Asia.. but this was the worst one. The breakfast was only banana pancake .. before starting the trek. As we started the Trek we were very hungry.. in the morning they brought us to sembalun to start the Trek.. with a lot of other groups.. at our time we were around 100 people walking more or less together to the first camppoint. The way was nice and at the end a bit harder to climb. But if you are fit that will be no problem for anyone. We had just one porter with us.. probably one of the best. Very fast, always a smile and he prepared everything for us very fast with help by our young guide. At the Camp our tent was almost ready, we were almost done for the day and just wanted to eat and sleep. We must not wait long for everything. At the hole Trip we had really good food. MeGoreng, nasigoreng and morning pancake with an Egg. We didnt expect that good food on the mountain! From the crater rim we had a very nice view in a lot of directions. In the evening we ask our guide how will be the next day.. then a surprise.. he said that we gonna go the same way back down.. and we said, that wasnt discussed with the agency and our guide one day before the Trek. He telephoned to the agency and discussed the issue. At least he accept to our plan and said that this gonna be very hard for us. A 10 hours Walk.. ususally they do this trekk only in 3 days.. way more comfortable. But they didnt tell us that issue before.. they knew our route before and we double checked it .. everybody was saying YES. Further the second day was very hard but very nice! I definetly would recommend our tour as the 3D/2N with the summit. Finally we got in the dark back to our new homestay.. totally K.O. and full of mudder. We needed almost 12 hours. The Porter and the guid always taking care of us. The guide speaks english .. managable but not good. The Porter less than the guide. We would have founded nice if they would explaint us more about the mountain, Nature and other stuff. But he more or less guided us only to the mountain.
Summarized i would not do a Trek with this agency again. We thought it was ok but not more. The guide was was friendly and guided us safe and we could take every rest we needed. The Porter was unbelivable (Tip them, they earn not much for that Job). The food was good. The homestay was disgusting. The Equipment was ok but not very good. Dont expect that much. If you want everything nice pay more and take a good agency.
The mountain is great and we had a unforgetable experience. Do it! "

" Don't book with them, just don't!
23 November 2016This organisation should be banned of the mountain.
Be careful if you book from Kuta Lombok, Senggigi or the Gili islands. They often book you in with this agency.
12 people and 1 guide who was unable to handle a group of people with different physical conditions and walking speed. We didn't see our guide during the trek and went to the summit without him..
The worst equipment. Tents are broken and the matrasses are thin and wet.
The porters were behind us so we always had to wait for them, the food and the tents. But still, we have so much respect for them. To bad they work for this organisation. I guess they would love to see some happy tourists like the porters of other agencies do.
Not enough food and water. You will be begging for it at other compagnies.
Luckily we met some other guides who were so friendly, sharing cookies with us because we were so hungry, giving us gloves because it was so cold, giving us some info about the vulcano,.. We could only dream of such a nice guide, ours didn't even go up and was resting somewhere..
They just throw trash on the mountain, so painful...
The last day the cooking gear broke, we weren't even surprised anymore because everything of their equipment is broken. The group just went down, hungry and angry. Everybody was upset about this organisation so you can multiply this review by 12. "

" Rinjani Tropis - worst tour organizer ever - be careful
14 November 2016Here is a short summary of our experiences with this tour organizer:
We booked a 3D/2N tour with Rinjani Tropis from September 23 - 25, 2016. The tour was booked via "Jerry's Information Centre" in Kuta (Jl. Raya Kuta, Kuta, Lombok) for 1,600,000 Rupiah per person.
The tour was supposed to start on September 23 at 7 a.m. but we started late at 8:15 a.m. from the guesthouse in Senaru. Instead of 6 people in a group (which was promised by the owner the day before) we ended up being 16. 16 people with one guide and not enough carriers to transport the promised food, water, camping equipment etc. We started out 1 1/2 hours late at 10 a.m from Sembalun and after one hour of hiking we had to wait another 2 h for a 17th person that the tour organizier additionally wanted to put in our group. So we continued with 17 people and 2 porters at 1 p.m. to the base camp. The tour guide was totally overburdened and could not speak English very well. The other porters were way behind us and at about half the way it started raining really hard. We made it to the top barely before dark, all wet and cold and had to wait another hour before any porter or the guide showed up. We had to wait in the dark and cold without shelter by 8 p.m. until other porters came and brought tents. Then it got even worse: the camping equipment was terrible (molded, not water proof, ancient tents, wet sleeping bags and matresses). After it started raining again some people had to scoop the water out of the tents with cups.
There was also no drinking water left. At night the group had to wake up the guide and he refused to go up to the peak for sunrise. He just said that he did not want to. So people had to climb up on their own.
12 out of the 17 people discontinued the tour the next morning and went straight back down. It was just impossible to spent another night without proper equipment on the mountain. A lot of people in our group were very sick when they came down. The tour organizer even send people without headlamps to the hike and told them that the lights of their mobile phones would be enough. It is dangerous to life trying to reach the top at night without proper lights.
The tour organizer Rinjani Tropis did not reimburse anybody even though
• the tour was badly organized (start of the tour was hours too late, the porters were hours too late at the base camp, not enough fresh water, 17 people instead of 6),
• the guide did not guide the group to the top and did not speak English well,
• the equipment was inadequate and broken (very old, not water proof, molded, wet) which made it impossible to stay more than one night without risking health.
The tour organizer did not care at all about the complaints, obviously lies to the people and promises services that he does not deliver. This encourages the thoughts of the people that this it is propably his business model to sell 3 days trips and forcing everybody to come back after the first night. "

" The worst company you can choose. They lied us, you booked a private guide, and we did the treeking in a group. We asked for proper equipment, but they didn't provide us, neither paying a extra cost for a jacket or boots, and at the top is freezing cold. The accommodation was the worst in all of my holidays. Into the group we paid different, you have to bargain, or better choose another company. "

" Very bad and irresponsible compagny, the owner is a lyer, he just wants your money and does'nt care about you, the nature and the porter.
30 October 2016We asked to see the tents before going up, he showed for sure new ones, but at the camp, there were only crappy tents, with a lot of holes in it.
They told us we would be 10 people maximum(witch is a lot I think), and we were 11 for 1 guide. In a concequence some people lost from the group and search in the fog the camp.
We also continue the trek during an evacuation due to eruption. The guide didn't know anything about it.
Anyway, this is the baddest compagny I ever try.
Avoid them "
Willem Van Leeuwen
" We had an awesome and well prepared hike on the Rinjani of 3 days and 2 nights. The guide and porters where the best: helpful, nice, funny and the food (every day different) was good plus nicely spiced. One downside was that the company forgot our head torch/lamp to go to the top. This company offered us a very good package deal from the Gili's, to Senaru, the full trekking (with tents and food) to Sembalu and afterwards a ride to Kuta. "
28 October 2016Evain Amélie
" I really don't recommand that organization trekking. They cancel because of an eruption that we can understand but they don't want to give our money back. We wait all the day for our money because we have done nothing with them. The boss said that "you can die here, i don't want to see you anymore".
13 October 2016The boss is really a bad personn who just want money and don't care about the service "
Jordan Peñarrubia
" Bad. Wrong rating. Two comments from the boss to higher the note. Boss insulting, dishonest liar thief, who just care about his money and not the safety of customers and his own staff. I rarely put comments but this one is deserved. "

" We planed to climb the Rinjani on september 28 with Rinjani Tropis, but on september 27 the Barujari volcano (which is into the Rinjani crater) erupted, closing the Rinjani national parc. We did not have this information because Rinjani Tropis lied to us, telling us that it was a small eruption like often, with just a bit of smoke. In fact, the alert level was raised to 2 (over 4) after this one. As Rinjani Tropis didn't want to refund us, they encouraged us to climb the Rinjani from an other side. I guess no one really had an idea of what was going on up there so 9 went and 5 of us stayed, fighting for our money. While our group was climbing the volcano, authorities were sending rescue services. Instead of leading people with safety in a dangerous environment which is mountain, and most of all here an active volcano, for Rinjani Tropis business and money they make are more important than your lives. "
01 October 2016Alexandre Jouvert
" I quote a previous comment saying the boss Husni "is the closest person to evil that I've ever encountered". We arrive there one day before the trek for the briefing, day after we ready to leave when comes the news : one volcano near rinjani erupted so we can't go to the summit... And he confesses us that he already knew that the day before! Despite the danger he pushes us to go trekking one day less than planned... We do not want it, for us it was the summit or nothing and especially no need to risk our lives! So we wait this first group to negotiate to leave then comes out turn, and he offers to give us back 50% of what we paid for not doing nothing, and a cancellation not coming from us.... Unable to take his businessman's responsibilities, little husni keeps calling us "brothers and sisters" and - while he owns as well a restaurant place, the one we were staying at - he gives us few toasts for our lunch (how kind .....!). But still, we can't discuss our refund, it's 50% or nothing claiming he paid for our water (he could keep for other trekkers in the future) and food (he said to be perishable but probably mainly rice and noodles) and guides (who didn't leave so didn't need to be paid)... After a whole day and many many lies, little husni's friends gathered around like some mafia to put some kind of pressure on us, and being foreigners unable to speak any language, we did not have any solution than accept his offer, but then we take our food and water, we paid for, and little husni agreed with that! He finally gives the money (50% only), we have to fight for the water, but no food... When we ask for it, little husni gets angry, insults us, wishing us to all die here, and then sulks! One of his employee, a really kind one has to deal with the situation -he treats his employees even worse than his customers - and find a solution coz little husni is a coward who doesn't want to face us anymore! So we give up the food, and go back to the place we came from, little husni didn't appear anymore! Five months of travel through Asia, first time such thing happened... We wake up the day after and we see the news "1000 tourists researched in rinjani after eruption of a volcano" and we think of this group which he pushed to go saying there it will be safe! But little husni is happy he has his money, the rest probably doesn't matter! So to conclude, I finally wouldn't say that this guy is evil coz I think evil has more guts and more respect than this small man has, only the money matters for him. Lying seems his profession. If you consider using his service, I just wish you that nothing bad happens coz then problems starts, and little husni not happy. "

" The trip is amazing .tasty food, no drama . I love the way of handling us. The only travellers should know in mount rinjani are cold . So use jacket or more clothes at night. He has good car for tranfer in and out. Good rooms n breakfast. I love nasi goreng made by the porters. This company own by local leaves in rinjani village senaru and were a trekking guide for many years. We are in holiday and make it great experience from what we have in mountain. Thank you mr. 22 July 2016Joshua Slack
" Similar to the other post we had a great time doing the actual trek and the guide and porters were fantastic. Tropics were a shambles from start to finish. After booking the tour they tried to move the dates, told us we could not do it, tried charging us extra on multiple occasions and failed to transfer us to Gili Air after the trek which was included in the package. Expect to have many issues and arguments if you book with these. "

" I write this review with a heavy heart. While my experience on Rinjani was incredible and my guide/porters were the best I could ask for, the company itself was the worst I've encountered in my many years of travels. To put it bluntly, the owner of Rinjani Tropis was one of the worst human beings I've ever encountered. Multiple people, friendly peaceful people, expressed wanting to punch him in the face for the way he treats his customers and his staff. Aside from the fact that we were barely fed and that the porters that helped us were barely paid on our 3 day trek, the organization consistantly made us choose between being exploited and our personal safety. On multiple occasions they threatened to abandon us in unknown towns if we did not cough up more money. I know this review sounds dramatic but don't want anyone to re-live the experience we just had. More importantly it makes me ill thinking that this man, who seems like the closest thing to evil that I've ever encountered, can continue to operate such a universally corrupt organization. There are many other tour providers. Please, for yourself, and for the Senaru Lombok community to not give this man your money. "
