The island is a paradise, but now with a lot of tourists coming in it’s becoming crowded and dirty.

All commute on the island is by horse cart or bicycle, waters are clean and clear except for the beach ear the main market area.

Get a villa near the beach and you will not need anything else, just relax, swim, sunbath and drink. "

To come the island just need a taxi from Lombok Airport to Bangsal Harbor (the main harbor to Gili). Then, there are Slow Boat/Speed Boat/Fastboat that you could find there to the island. All of the transportations you may get in public or book for your own. "

There are a lot of activities to do, from horse riding along the beach, cycling around the island, snorkeling and swimming with turtle at turtle point, and having fresh sea food at night market. " Overrated island. Everything is overpriced and the beaches are too filthy and crowded. The infrastructure is poor. If it rains the whole day expect to walk in swamps of water. Also the locals who work at the bars are not friendly. I had a bad experience at Jiggy. They drugged my drink at their boat party. Try to avoid this island. If you are destined to go to Gili, then I would recommend Air or Meno over Trawangan. They're more relaxing islands and not as congested with people and horses. The gym on Gili Air is really nice too. Overall, I found everything on Gili T to be dirty, from the ambiance to the people. I will never go back there again. "

" we book a villa in advanced....turn out they are still renovating, so the room was dusty. we have to pay 200k for 2horse ride for 5people+bagage.....and instantly regretted it. should just find a villa near the dock instead. the island is very quiet and secluded. we dont really enjoy our time here "

You can walk or bike around. There are also horses but please don't encourage that. They don't treat them well (why I removed one star).

" It such a small island but I really enjoyed my time there. No cars, just horse taxis but everything is also walkable. The beaches are very nice and you can snorkel everywhere to see turtles. So many bars and restaurants so it's hard to choose where to go first. And the night market is wonderful with all local food, fish meat and vegetables it's a very nice vibe there in the evenings. "

" I've visited this island once. In Gili Trawangan, make sure you go around the island finding the great spots that has no crowd and also find the spot that has perfect water and sand; if you don't do that and just staying in just several place nearby the crowd, you may probably be disappointed. So, let's be slightly tired by going a bit farther around the island to find the perfect spot :). This island is very nice place to unplug yourself and get relax... "

The beaches are mostly not swimmable, there was literally no one swimming as most people were taking snorkeling trips and it's very difficult to get to the snorkeling area from the beach, and when you do, it's not that impressive,

Food was merely average all over the island, even though some places do have good averaged priced food,

finally, people do seem to stare a lot as if they have never seen half naked girls swimming..

Gili Trawangan is more recommended, at least the beach and food are better, while people are the same.. :D "

" Good snorkeling. A lot of destroyed coral, but local dive schools make an effort to replant. Very relax, quite green. Bike only :) Has some great restaurants from small cheap warung to more international. You can hear the mosque from 4.45 am probably from every accommodation, but it’s not so loud as Trawangan. My favorite Gili. "

" A gem! Of the 3 Gilis, Air was the most balanced between activities/restaurant/fun options. Still able to find strips of empty beach with shallow clear waters where you can snorkle amidst a great variety of colourful fish in all sizes, shapes and paterns. A romantic spot for lazy days drinking tasty fresh juices right by the sea. For those more eager for night time fun, look for areas on the island where bars stay open until later (not everywhere). Beautiful beach cafés where you can relax all day, and dont miss the sunset on the west side of Air.
The only remarks we would like to point out are the plastic trash left on the beaches... not a pretty sight for us but especially harmful for all the amazing and rather fragile water fauna and flora. And also, because there's no warning/notification for the tourists, the corals are dying all over the Gilis due to being trampled on by people on the hundreds of snorkeling tours around the islands every day. So, take care where you step! "

" Very very cool place. It was refreshing to be somewhere with no motorised transport. The only way to get around the island is to walk, cycle or catch a ride in a horse and carriage. There are countless picturesque swimming locations, bars on the beach and restaurants. There were only two complaints I have with Gili T, one being the roosters that woke me up at the crack of dawn, and the other is that I wish i could have stayed longer! "

" If you are not prepared you might be shocked on arriving. The island is very small and there is no other transportation than horse carriage and bicycle. Carriage prices difficult to bargain but try. The attraction here is snorkeling and diving. There is 100% chance to swim with turtles. If you really interested in it do not choose one of the cheaper solution but go with one of the dive centers. The cheaper one are a tourist trap they do not care about real snorkeling. They will take you to the other island for lunch to get there fee for it. Otherwise a lovely island but only for those who tolerate simple tourism with lower infrastructure. Do not expect the same kindness from locals than in Bali. "

" Do not take the fast boat from the company 'sindex'. the first person gave us the wrong time, so we missed our boat. The second boat had 2hours delay. Normal fast boat tickets including a shuttle to Ubud or Kuta costs around 250k (not 350k!)
Gili Air is a beautiful island and we liked everything except for the shuttle back to bali. "
