Im so glad we ended up at papaya over 4/5 star resorts on gili gede....We LOVED our 2 night stay at papaya lodge. We arrived to be greeted by alan who is funny, warm and so welcoming to his village and area of gili gede. Our room was spotless (mosquitos were not an issue) and comfortable and he was so eager to help with anything we needed. (Although one point of improvement could be to add some chairs for lounging by the rooms)
We chose to eat at his sisters restaurant (also part of papaya lodge) each evening and we highly recommend it for an authentic and entertaining dinner experience as everyone liked to sit and chat with us about the island and family stories :) lots of laughter and even some games :) we also did the snorkeling day trip which was a highlight! Gunawan was the best captain and we visited 3 snorkeling spots and got to see a sea turtle. Youll have your choice of coffee or tea on the trip with a stop at gili layar for lunch. Very relaxed day! Gunawan even invited us and our neighbors to see a traditional fight that happened to be going on on lombok in the evening!
Things to consider is that there is only electricity in the evenings until morning and no wifi (have a drink at kokomos if you really need it). Also the beach in front of the lodge is not ok for swimming since the current brings a bit of garbage from lombok :( alan and gun are super passionate about this and are part of the local fight to educate and find solutions for this which is inspiring. But swimmable beautiful quiet beaches are only short walks away (other side of island)and on the way you get to stroll through the village and recieve many friendly hellos and chats from everyone.
After 3 weeks in lombok and a couple nights in gili air staying at a wide spectrum of places..i have to say that this was one of my favorite and most memorable stops.
So get off the grid, stay at papaya lodge and experience the welcoming friendly vibe of this village!

Authenticité, simplicité, calme, accueil, sourires... cela résume très bien notre séjour.
Un petit coin de paradis loin, très loin des touristes.
Les moments passés au papaya lodge ainsi que notre séjour de 4 nuits sur l'île de Gede resterons un merveilleux souvenir.
Fermez les yeux, laissez vous guider par Alan. Que ce soir pour dormir, manger, vous promenez, faire du snorckeling, aller pêcher....
Vivez au rythme de l'île, restez y le temps qu'il faut, ici pas d'arnaque, juste des bons moments.

The time spent at the Papaya Lodge as well as our 4 night stay on Gili Gede will be a wonderful memory.
Close your eyes, let Alan guide you. That for sleep, eat, walk, snorckeling, go fishing ....
Live to the rhythm of the island, stay there the time it takes, just good times.
