My first time visiting this place, eventhough I've been living in this city about more than 20 years. Everytime my friends told me that they visited Kediri, They always said that this place was great. So, I decided to visit this place to see what's the crowd about.
As for me, I visited this place on wednesday morning. It was pretty quite and the interior was clean looking. I ordered a bowl of Soto, a glass of iced tea and a serving of one of their famous signature dish, Fried tofu. Another side dishes like salted eggs, potato fritters, and crackers were served on the table.
Soto wise, it was quite delicious. The chicken broth was coconut milk base, but taste clean and light. The saltiness was not overpowering even I hadn't mixed it with sweet soy sauce. The topping consisted of shreded chicken (they use Ayam Kampong), boiled bean sprouts, a dash of celery leaves, sambal and sweet soy sauce. For a bowl of Soto, it will cost you about IDR 16k and it is enough to filled you up.
Now, let's talk about their fried tofu. It was lika a oval shaped tofu, fried until the outside part is crispy then cut into bite sized served with a swirl of sweet soy sauce and sambal at the side. The tofu wasn't the dense kind, it was the soft kind which will form a spongey like texture when fried. It also wasn't that really salty (as the side dish supposed to be) which was for some people not really fond of. But for me, it was great (there was salt on the table if you want it to be really salty). This dish will cost you about 6k.
Overall, I am thinking the reason why this place is famous. For some people this could be a memorable place since the place had existed since 1926 and located in the busy area. Just imagine, growing up in this area, having breakfast here before you start the day. When you moved out, this place was the thing you will be really missed.
The atmosphere, cleanliness and the food are good, the price is okay (yet, quite expensive). It is a place that worth to try when you visit Kediri.

Open at exactly 7:00 am, We ordered 2 bowls of soto + 1 uritan (unborn egg) + 1 fried tofu = IDR 50k. too expensive I though. Taste of soto was delicious (maybe bçoz we were hungry hehe...), Fried Tofu was excellent, while Uritan was not (too dry).
The plate, fork & spoon were not good looking
