No one has an eye like Shern's. No one. That's half the reason to go to WLB. The other half is to build up your vocab. of basic movements so that your body learns how to move in a way that reduces injury. For those with the extra mobile joints like me, just because you can do the move doesn't mean you're doing it correctly. That pain that you've been feeling for the past 6 months? That's not normal. WLB gives you long term solutions that actually work.

Duration: Thrice weekly classes at WLB for 3 months. Only skipped 2 lessons due to public holidays.
Context: Had upper body (back, shoulder, neck) pain for about 10 years. Tried weekly tuina (deep tissue massage), physio, pilates (twice weekly). Pilates helped but the pain came back about 2 days after each class.
What led me to even walk in was that WLB is very open about sharing information via social media on how to help yourself. I liked the clear explanations (not fluffy).
Movement assessment: Shern was friendly, attentive and clear in explaining. No fluff. Gave me confidence to get a 3-month package on the spot.
Physio sessions: I didn't have to do it, so no feedback.
Small group sessions (more points, so breaking them down):
1. Personal feedback
Truly appreciate that Shern and Mildred try to be available before and after class for questions. If any student has a particular issue, they will talk one on one to the student and give advice (e.g., be careful of overarching lower back in class and daily life) It's not part of "paid time" and shows the "above and beyond".
2. Class attentiveness
Sometimes if you're weak (like me), you get reduced weight workouts. Basically where needed, students will get adjustments to the workouts. Also Mildred or Shern will always be watching, so you can only get away with so many wrong movements (personal experience!)
3. Welcoming environment
Students in the classes are friendly, just like the instructors. Like they'll make space for you, say hi, cheer you on, etc. When you're new, weak and struggling to keep up in class, let's just say, IT REALLY HELPS.
4. Online booking system
Only because I've tried variants of others and some just give me a headache. WLB's one has a clean interface and I can easily book, add to Google Calendar (one-click!) or cancel straight from email. No need spinning unicorns, just a joy to use.
5. Space
The place is clean, fuss-free and functional, with ample space to move around.
Conclusion:
I've gotten stronger (easily able to carry a struggling growing baby), know how to adjust posture, seen improvement in pain management and have better movement in some inflexible areas. The other half has noted more toned abs, if anyone wants to tone up?
I still go for pilates (once every 2 weeks) and have seen a marked improvement in the ability to handle heavier weights and flexibility. Also, the lessons from WLB do carry over to pilates, e.g., square (not swaying) hips.
As you can tell, many factors (and then some) were considered before signing up. I waited till the end of 3 months before writing this long review, if only to give a fair, complete and hopefully helpful one! :)

As a Doctor of Chiropractic, and health nut, I understand the Many Variables that go into achieving Optimal Health. The Team at WLB are well trained and create a fun, fulfilling exercise environment where discovering something new about your body happens every visit. (So ask questions!) Because they video record your movements, you can see progress with following their recommendations tailored to reach your personal health goals, however ambitious they may be. Thanks for what you do!

I was referred to Work Lift Balance by an army friend who suffered from a back injury. He mentioned that Shern was a specialist who loved to treat shoulder injuries, which I suffered from during my national service.
Before meeting Shern, I had seen other physiotherapists (both in Singapore and in America) and even tried learning rehab exercises on my own but to no avail. Just one session with Shern, made me realize how uninformed and shallow the previous physiotherapists were.
Shern managed to not only answer my questions (which some past physiotherapists couldn't, but also provided a comprehensive assessment and rehabilitation plan.
Here is a quick summary of what a typical session included:
•Detailed explanations on how the biomechanics of my body worked, identifying that my core issue wasn’t that my injured right shoulder was weak, but instead my right chain stretching down to my leg that was the root cause
•Needling and myofascial massage to help release tense muscles
•Video recordings of my rehab exercises to ensure progress is recorded
•Written detailed instructions on how to conduct my own rehab exercises at own
In total I have been to 6 sessions and have seen great improvements in my shoulder mobility and strength. I also developed a new found understanding of how my body moves and learned that I had previously moved suboptimally.
Shern pushes you during the rehab exercises but it's because of her dedication and passion to her clients. Both her and Mildred are great at making you feel welcomed and makes you feel great to come back for a follow-up session.
I highly recommend anyone who has injuries or even anyone who is looking to feel better with their own body to try out one session with Work Lift Balance.

It is perhaps one of the best physiotherapist i have ever seen. I've always had aches and pains in my lower body thinking that they were nothing but signs of growing muscles and good workout sessions. I was very surprised and also amazed when Shern, the physiotherapist, told me that the problems were not with my calves or feet but my lower back instead. Shern is really professional and knowledgeable. She is also very patient in explaining and educating her patients. Her diagnoses are so accurate, she shocks me everytime. It is like she knows what workouts i do at home. It is scary but it is that accurate! It is almost like magic. The employees in WLB are also really professional and caring. Mildred, the Stack trainer, really helped me in getting my day to day postures and movements right. She adjusted my basic movements such as sitting, walking, running, and standing postures. These little adjustments really relieved my injuries and are helping me to stay injury-free.
All in all, WLB is truly a place which helps one, injured or non-injured, to receive professional treatment and educated advises.
