Just a train station. The buying of tickets area has aircon and limited seats. At the boarding area, there is no aircon and also limited seats. So not a comfortable place to wait for the train.

I really wish the train still connected to downtown Singapore -- even a connection to MRT right here would be perfect. Lots of queues and then I couldn't find the train so I took the bus instead.

Easy, comfortable and really quick way to go across the Johor Strait. Prefer it to bus. 2018 schedule attached. Boarding closes 15min prior to departure.

Crossed Singapore to Malaysia the day after CNY with no booking. Paid cash at counter, about an hour from arriving to getting out of Johor Bahru Sentral. Easy

Very slow especially at the Malaysian side of the customs. Seems like the officers just taking their time. The trains were very, very old. I might have boarded the same train during my school excursion 20 years ago. The thing going for it though is the predictable crowd compared so the crazy crowd at the bus checkpoint. A lot less crazy, and much more comfortable. The train seem to only leave 15 or 20 mins past the scheduled timing.

Not so clean. Lack of seating area.
Note for tourist; the buses dont have spare changes so be prepared.

Train scheduled to leave at 12 noon. I arrived at 11.15am so that have ample time to check in so that train can depart on time. It is 12 noon now. Queue is long. Not one person has gone through immigration. No announcement...nothing. Clueless on what is happening.
1 hr later....still have not left Singapore. At least 2 hrs for whole trip. If I had taken a bus 2 hrs ago, I would have long reached...

Be mindful of which bus service you are boarding, as Intra-town bus services 911, 912 and 913 has two different routes. For trips terminating at Woodlands Interchange, 911E, 912E or 913E will be displayed. Boarding the bus with "E" does not charge express fares or have any difference in routing, except that "E" terminates its journey upon arriving at Woodlands Interchange.

This place usually will very crowded, specially Friday afternoon around 6 to 9pm, Saturday morning 8 to 11am and public holiday eve, because alot of Malaysian going Singapore for work. That's the timing when they knock off and go back Malaysia. That have a way to avoid it, take Train provided by KTM, for the "hot timing" ticket, you need to go through online to buy, usually 28 days before the actual day open for sale ticket. Kindly remind, if you traveling between this 2 country, please avoid the timing i mention.

Note to people planning to take the train from SG to JB, book your ticket online as the timing for the morning journey gets sold out specially on weekends. The station itself is sparse but clean. Next to the station are some local eateries which can fill you up before you continue onwards.

Disclaimer: My review here is based on my experience of taking the KTM Train from Woodlands to JB Sentral.
My virgin experience at the check point was pretty smooth partly because I had advice from my family who had taken the train ride before.
For starters, tickets are sold either at the counter at the checkpoint or via online booking. My advice is to book online to prevent disappointment as the tickets do sell out really fast. In fact, on the day that I went to JB, all the tickets for the day was already sold out.
From Woodlands to JB: If you book your tickets online, you have to queue at the counter and exchange the transaction slip to get the actual ticket.
In spite of the various signs which serves to guide and inform passengers with vital information, it can get rather confusing for first timers who did not do any prior research.
Having said that, overall, the train ride would definitely be a more convenient and direct rouute compared to taking buses and being stucked in the jam.

TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL AND IMPOLITE!!!
I first queued in a lane for almost an hour and it's hardly moved forward so I decided to move to other lane, after queuing for more than 30 minutes the officer who was about to get off work just simply close the gate on my lane and asked me and few people very impolitely to go to other counter. It's really unbelievable to be treated like this in a country like Singapore!!! I spent almost 3 hours just to pass through. What an unprofessional service!!!

Woodlands Train Checkpoint will be expanded from Johor Bahru to Singapore
Afi Hafiz (12/03/2017 12:17)
First time took a KTM recently. Expect to be crowded at peak hour but at least not as slow as taking the conversational way back.
JC Production (15/01/2017 04:45)
Its too crowdy there.if u are shopping i advise u to take tuas checkpoint instead of woodland checkpoint .or u can also waste time at the checkpoint
Raymond Fong (17/12/2016 07:47)
Expect crowds during peak hours. If you're lucky to get on the train, you can zip pass the jam.
shirni ong (24/11/2016 03:01)
Important: you can't buy the shuttle Singapore-jb sentral ticket online anymore. Have to be over the counter.
Horrible checkpoint experience if you are coming from JB Sentral.
I dont know what is the rush, cutting Q and pushing ppl all about.
Someone need to look into this.
It's very dangerous because there are old people and people in needs in the crowd. Perhaps set a priority lanes for them.
Hot waiting area for trains and bus.
Le Gill (25/10/2016 13:52)
Millions of people pass through this checkpoint designed for far far lesser human traffic. Extremely incompetent checkpoint.
Ray Kyo (07/10/2016 23:30)
Woodlands checkpoint is always crowded, but it's pretty nice you could just take a bus or train from Singapore to Malaysia through here.
