The whole application process ran smoothly up till the last stage... US embassy cooperates with Amarex to deliver back passports withs visas. Amarex holds a Guinness record for being the worst courier in the world. They will probably fail to deliver your passport and you'll have to pick it up yourself from their office next to Changi airport! So better save your time and pick it up from directly from the embassy.

I don't normally review government facilities, but the imposing structure belies a friendly and empathetic set of employees who help out citizens in times of need.

Singaporean here. I applied visa on behalf of overseas friends on govt website. Many delays. Application rejected and ICA asked me to reapply without a valid reason. Took 2 weeks instead of 3 days. Realised extra money deducted for rejected applications. Emailed in to dispute the issue. No explanation. Continued to call and email ICA. No reply for weeks. Criticised ICA and said that the government was in dysfunction based on my past experiences with SMRT and other govt apps and services via email and reported ICA to other statutory boards. Still no reply. Even visited ICA building once. 3 months later, police investigate me and my family members who were not involved. They claim my negative feedback caused alarm to the public servants. Police also said that all my family members need to give their statements without any reason. Was constantly threatened. ICA also claimed that they were a self checking organisation and need not need to answer to anyone.

Public hours change - call in advanced
- for passport photos, bring your own or have Cash for the onsite photo machines- staff unhelpful and/or uninformed

The Singaporean woman interviewer at the nonimmigrant visa interview point always keeps a poker face, not as friendly as what people said here. Such a bad experience.

After reading reviews as well as driving by this incredible fortress looking place I was concerned when I realized I needed to renew my passport. Dreading the day, I planned in advance for an hours-long ordeal. At home I completed my paperwork and quadruple-checked it before I set off via taxi with a bag of survival gear that included bug repellent (in case of long lines standing outside), umbrella plus sunhat and sunglasses (long lines again) as well as a granola bar, writing materials and a newspaper.
However! Arriving just after 9 a.m. on a Thursday was actually not bad. Had to line up outside as each individual went through major security checks but it wasn't long, maybe 10 minutes in the blazing sun. Luckily the employees all around are not only helpful but cheerful and anticipate any confusion or questions you might have. I entered, found the photo booth at the far left end of the left waiting area and got my $10 SGD photos done in 18 seconds just like the booth promised. It was so easy I couldn't believe it. Then I went to the cashier window in the first waiting area and turned in my papers, passport, photo and fees (I paid about $160 SGD). I was given an orange piece of paper as a receipt that will be my ticket to turn in once my renewed passport is ready to pick up. I think the whole process took 20 minutes tops. The place was pretty empty on this morning...maybe because their website says they are only open to the public half a day on Thursdays?
Anyway, a very positive experience with well-trained employees. I wish these same helpful people did airport security. They were serious about their work but completely efficient and kind. Am actually no longer dreading having to return in a couple weeks to get passport.
Tip: I did walk across the street to Gleneagles Hospital afterward and got in their taxi queue to get home. It was so convenient. In a few more years the Napier Road MRT will be done and it will get even easier.

US citizen here, frequently use their services for passport services for my family. Have had nothing but excellent experiences and service here until the last visit a few weeks back.. Normally the U.S. college kids they employ (probably summer interns) are such a pleasure to deal with. Chat you up, ask how you ended up in Singapore, super friendly and kind. The more seasoned American clerks here are really helpful, prompt, efficient, and clear in communication. Despite not being Caucasian, I have always been treated with respect and dignity. However, the last person I got treated me very poorly and had no kind of courtesy toward me whatsoever. The clerk I had to deal with seemed to be a local Singaporean from what I could tell, though she could be American as well... Anyway, I am familiar enough with the processes and what not, but she was constantly scolding me, speaking in a very curt and short-tempered way, talking to me as if I were a child, and not answering any of my questions in a coherent way. The sad part was, for the 2 people before me (both Caucasians), she gave them compliments and treated them very kind. I felt that because simply I was not a Caucasian, she profiled me and treated me with great disrespect and discourtesy. Now, I know we greatly rely and appreciate Embassy staff for the great service they do for our citizens. However, all people should be treated fairly, there should be no selective treatment based on the color of your skin. I hope this worker gets reprimanded some day for bias, being very rude, and being a very poor communicator. I felt she treated me poorly simply because I was not a Caucasian. I am an American citizen, and deserve the same level of treatment as others.
