Portion is generous and the chicken looks good. Rice is $0.80 and smell nice.
However, the service sucks. They treat u like small kids and don't expects words like thanks or please or even a smile. They will scold u if u ask for more black sauce and tell u off that they have no soup.
Personally I think the chicken is so so but feel authentic. However the service sucks so much that I don't think I ever coming back unless my wife wants it.

Although service is not something that is a high priority in hawker centers. It has to be decent enough. I wanted no sauce because of a friend who is going gluten free and it was added on even though it was already mentioned at ordering and also written into the order chit. And they started lecturing me about not telling them like I was a kid. After ordering $17 worth of stuff. I did not pay to get a scolding. No amount of chicken is gona tempt me back. There are others in the same locale and elsewhere in SG. Its not like they were that great in the first place. And considering this is on a workday lunch and the queue is mainly tourists, that’s very telling isn’t it.

The rice is indeed pretty fragrant and its fragrance is not due to usage of sesame oil (something I hypotheses, as the rice was not soaked in oil). The white steamed chicken is nicely cooked and dripped in certain gravy/sauce.
The only downside is that, for a default sized (medium) plate of white chicken rice, it cost $5.00. That is much more expensive than the average hawker centre chicken rice.

Tempted to try because the Michelin star. Come here as early as 10 o’clock so you don’t have to wait longer. Its fragrant chicken rice cone in 3 sizes range fro 4 to 7 Singapore dollar. If you want to do food ventures this maxwell eating complex is good

Delicious chicken & rice! Line is long but goes so quick! Take a picture of the menu and pick out what you want while you wait. Go early before they run out in the evening.
Ordering Tip: Comes in 3 sizes - small, medium and large. Small is rice & chicken & sauce all on one plate. If you want the chicken and sauce separate from the rice, order the medium or large!

Not as impressive as I thought about. Generally the Hainanese chicken rice which is famous in Singapore was not that good as I imagined. Probably Hong Kong restaurants already did very good comparatively!
The rice was just plain rice not the usual oil rice for the dish. The chicken is just nice, but not as good as expected. The portion is not enough for people having a big appetite like me. I won't recommend it to others and I won't come again. I hope there are some other better food stalls to be discovered other than those just having reputation.

This place is easy to find, just look for the really long line at the food court, can’t miss it ;-)
For the two of us, it was cheaper to get half a chicken and two bowls of seasoned rice (to have both dark and white meat) than ordering 2 individual plates of chicken and rice. We got more chicken and cost less.
Table and seats are hard to get, may I suggest look for the next rows of stalls area to get a empty table.
The chicken and seasoned rice is really as good as expected, Anthony Bourdian didn’t lie.
Cedric Vanderkuyt (17/03/2018 04:00)
The rice is extra fatty/creamy, maybe the best in Singapore. The queue can get too long though, best to go early. Or late (except they might have sold out and not be open). Service is functional and brisk. No idea if it's halal or not.
Salem Saberhagen (04/03/2018 08:14)
Mediocre chicken rice in comparison to the many other good chicken rice stalls around the island. What is more disgusting is the rude service from a particular youngster in the service crew! Complete spoiler.
Chicken rice is typically served with clear soup but as this stall’s business is too good, they could afford to go against custom and not serve any. People are still queuing anyway.
Sauces. Usually you could help yourself to ginger and/or garlic chili sauce and dark soy sauce but then again their business is too good - why bother? So, be sure to ask for the sauces.
Chicken is serve with a dash of gravy that’s prepared using light soy sauce and corn starch. It’s simply unappetizing. If you have tried those who use light soy sauce and sesame oil instead, you would tell which taste better.
Overall I find no good reason to eat the chicken rice here. Tian Tian Chicken Rice is capable of giving you the service that will make your blood boil.
Daniel Liunando (17/02/2018 15:09)
Yes, the chicken rice is good, and it's better than most chicken rice that I've tasted, but it doesn't give a 'wow' experience.
I went to Maxwell Food Center a bit late, at 4 or 5 PM if I'm not mistaken, and when I got to Tian Tian, there was a long queue and the chicken almost run out. But I was lucky to become the last person in the queue who could still enjoy a full meal. The person behind me only ordered rice and vegetables (he looks like a tourist, and probably still insist to eat only vegetable just to taste the famous Tian Tian).

Great little spot which always seems to be teeming with activity. Dropped in during odd hours to beat the crowds; there was next to no queue. Rice was delicious, sticky and heavily infused with the famous chicken stock/ flavour. Will go back again - just plan around the often mad rush!
pan781203 (25/11/2017 15:39)
Extremely tender/ soft/ juicy chicken I have ever tasted! Way beyond my expectation even though I knew it was famous. Definitely five stars!!
Though I was a bit confused about the price, weren’t exactly what they remarked on sign..
Hendry Kosasih (22/11/2017 12:15)
Love the chicken rice here. It is very tasty. The chicken breast and thigh cuts are very juicy. The rice taste also perfect, I like the ginger taste on the rice. The queue here is also quite long, that means it's really famous chicken rice here.
Jasmine Khoo (20/11/2017 16:35)
Yummy, tender and smooth chicken breast meat! I can only imagine how good it would be if it was thigh or the drumstick! The rice was not as good though, it was slightly less warm than I hoped it would be. It was also less flavorful than other famous chicken rice places such as BTK, DFF, etc.
Sienna Kim (12/09/2017 10:23)
Known as the number 1 hainanese chicken rice in Singapore! The chicken just melts in your mouth. So good and so cheap, only 5 SGD! I ordered other things on the menu but I wish I had ordered more of the flavoursome rice. There was a really long line but only a 15 minute wait, so it moves fast. Definitely worth the wait!
Jimmy Hsiao (10/09/2017 07:56)
Famous chicken rice in Singapore, can try it and always need waiting.
Can not sure it is the best cos have not tried others. Anyway it's good for me.
However the price is really cheap
Yeray Sainz Lorenzo (29/08/2017 09:59)
Famous stall, making a very famous Singaporean dish. It was just OK, but I was not surprised at all. The price is very cheap, since it is a hawker center, and the staff is quite rude. In my opinion, there are far better and savoury foods at hawker centers, but a must try since it probably is Singapore's most famous dish.
Neither the rice or the chicken were too tasty... but it is was not the stall's fault, it is the dish itself that is like it is.
Jack ish (22/08/2017 18:26)
If you are in Singapore you should at least try it, it's good and not very expensive. Sometimes you have to wait a long time... A lot of tourists I think... but also local people.
CW Wong (06/07/2017 13:34)
I had this chicken rice once, that was before Anthony Bourdain made them famous. My impression then was, the chicken was tasteless, rice was not fragrant enough, chilli sauce is not nice & above all, everything is too soft, the chicken, the rice or even the gizzards are too soft! There are so many good chicken rice in Singapore & longer Q doesn't mean they are better, use your taste buds to convince yourself.
Radhika Haridas (04/07/2017 14:35)
Extremely crowded at lunch time.
We primarily went to Maxwell for Tian Tian(though it disappointed us with cold chicken) but many diverse options available, good food and good prices.
Arthur Kim (31/05/2017 08:00)
Chicken Rice is the official unofficial dish of Singapore. Everyone says you have to try it when you go to Singapore so we decided to try out the most famous place in the city.
Of course there was a line here, but the service is really fast. I got the chicken rice for $3.50 SGD. The chicken is almost like a sou vide preparation where it is barely cooked with a savory sauce poured on top of it and the rice.
It wasn't my favorite dish, but it was tasty. I think the popularity has more to do with it being a traditional comfort food for locals. The one thing that locals really like, but others don't' really understand why they love it so much. Maybe my tastes are the weird one and everyone else likes it. I suggest you try it for yourself.
Savvy Aggarwal (11/05/2017 14:30)
I first had this renowned Chicken Rice from the Maxwell Food centre during my first visit to Singapore. Since then I have had it many times and continue to relish it even till today. Its simple, no fuss chicken rice which is cooked very nicely and tastes great. Easy on the pocket too at 5 SGD.
Mohsin Khan (05/05/2017 00:25)
Chicken rice is an absolutely no for me. Apparently it's one of the favorite dishes of Singaporean. They must lead a very bland life. The chicken has no flavor. Just boiled and put on top of rice that also has no flavor. The only ounce of flavor is the sauce that's put on the chicken. Loved everything Singapore. Heavily disappointed in this.
Richard Navarro (22/03/2017 05:09)
The best and only place you should have the classic chicken and rice! Don't waste stomach space on other places or foods without trying this place first! A medium is only $5 SGD! Don't share get your own and you won't regret it!
I can't wait to go back and eat at this spot again!
Leena Taneja (10/03/2017 20:38)
There is no better way to describe this place than: overrated
I know there are a significant number of rave reviews but to me this is just another stall that does not meet the hype and is exaggerated by the Anthony Bourdain visit.
During my very first time here, the queue extended all the way around the corner of Maxwell but luckily moved at a fairly decent pace (waited about 30 mins).
I ordered the smallest portion at $3, just to get a taste. While the rice is definitely soft and fragrant, the chicken was flavorless... and cold. I've never received chicken and rice in Singapore with cold chicken so assumed this was the specialty of Tian Tian, but aside from just being tender, there was nothing about the way this dish was served that marked it as something I'd come out of the way for.
The second time I came here was out of my boyfriend's interest to try and had the exact same experience. Personally, definitely not worth the wait in the queue (although give it a try if you're lucky enough to not have to wait). I'd say you can very easily have a much better meal at another stall at Maxwell.
KeNn-E Su (02/03/2017 23:56)
Lines for this place has gone nuts thanks to Anthony Bourdain. However, as long as the queue was (and I believe it was at least 50 deep when I visited), the wait wasn't too bad (approx. 15 min). On to the food, obviously we were here for the chicken rice, and it didn't disappoint. The chicken was tender and juicy, but the star of the show was the rice, packed full of flavour. Slight negative is that they won't let you choose which part of the chicken you want, even though it's listed on the menu, you get what they give you (probably due to the amount of customers).
Alden Quan Guan (04/02/2017 01:56)
The chicken is good tasting and has a rich and oily taste and the intestine are chewy not too chewy texture with a rich taste. And also the rice tastes awsome like the chicken. I highly recommend people to come to this place to eat
Erich Frankenberg (08/01/2017 13:44)
After all the hype I most definitely had to give it a go. After passing by Maxwell on a Sunday and realizing the queue was only about 8 people (usually there's up to a 45 minute wait) I decided I would give it a try. The chicken rice is alright, a bit greasy for my taste, and they tend to add some gravy-like dressing on it when served which I have to say definitely gives it a nice flavor boost. I have to say, though, that anything upwards of $5 is a bit steep for chicken rice which, yes, may have beat Gordon Ramsey, but what does he know about chicken rice? While I'm glad I gave it a try, I'll stick to my usual fares for a shorter wait and a lesser of a dent in the wallet.

Not sure why this shop was highly rated as the best chicken rice in Singapore. The taste and texture of their chicken is just ordinary that they won't make it to my top 5 list. The service is also bad, i was buying a half chicken but the auntie insists that i can only buy whole chicken since she saw that we are 5, i told her that we are also ordering food from other stalls to try but she keeps on insisting that i should buy a bigger. Also when i asked for beans sprouts she automatically put in $6 instead of the $2, i don't want another argument with her since the queue is already long behind me thus i just allowed her to rip me off this one time. Maybe she thought that i was not a local thus she forced me to spend more. Looking at the customers, most of them are tourists thus i realized that this stall is just like a newton hawker. To me it's still Wee Nam Kee chicken rice as the best.
Mark Andrews (30/12/2016 19:33)
OMG I am so jealous of the lucky people of Singapore to have such a fantastic dish let alone a fantastic restaurant/stall that can make it so perfectly. I wish I could eat this dish at least twice a week. When we arrived at Maxwell Food Court looking for the stall all we saw was the queue to buy the dish, it was long but in less than 10 minutes we were sitting down to an absolute delicious meal. Obviously the locals know which one to go to as there are two stalls but only one had the queue of about 20-30 people at any given time. The chicken was so moist and succulent and the rice was so flavoursome, you might want to watch out for the chilli paste-it’s bloody hot and I like hot food. Oh man this was so, so good. It was a perfect meal for a perfect day.
PAUL GOON (28/09/2016 01:26)
TianX2 chicken rice not too bad. What I don't like most is the service. Proud.
Try take extra chillies or ginger they'll not be happy or they tell you off.
Go any next door CHICKEN RICE which will give you better and cheaper deal. Taste still competitive.
Yi Long Tan (25/09/2016 11:47)
Only order if less than 5 ppl in line. If not neighboring ah tai is equally good.
KK Yap (22/09/2016 04:52)
Dun understand why pple queue... waste of time. Try ah tai instead.
Tanya Sorajja (05/09/2016 17:42)
Dont understand the hype. Maybe it's not my kind of chicken rice but i find chicken to be oily and bland. Chili and sauce dont add to flavour. Rice is not aromatic. Veggie is nothing special. Price is ok but there is better in Singapore.
Boon Hoo Ng (09/07/2016 07:08)
There is the upcoming famous Woong Kee Traditional Beancurd from Ipoh Malaysia to be set up in this Maxwell Hawker Centres soon !
shirni ong (23/06/2016 08:55)
Truthfully, I had better chicken rice before.
It's not bad, but I don't like the starchy gravy.
The chili OK.
The chicken rice at Bugis Albert Center Food court is better actually.
Tips: 2pm, no crowd no wait.
CELAB 99 (31/05/2016 14:09)
Tried this place last week, it was ok but nothing outstanding, certainly did not live up the hype, there are better places in Singapore, albeit at a higher price. I personally didn't like having to pick my chicken apart from shattered bones.
Neil Talatala (12/04/2016 15:35)
I don't know about the others, but I had a very high expectation on the taste of the chicken rice at Tian Tian due to all the hype that surrounds it before my visit (whew!). So, I marked this place on Google Maps just to make sure that I won't miss it on my visit to Singapore.
When I arrived at the Maxwell Food Centre, I queued for around 20 minutes (I was not even starving to death at the time) and ordered the medium sized chicken rice. I took a photo just to prove that it happened hehe. I was blown away on my first bite! It was delicious! Heavenly! I should have ordered the large size. I am crying right now. I am definitely coming back for more. I love you Tian Tian.
Michael Lam (09/04/2016 13:42)
Very good chicken rice in a very reasonable price. Best to order half chicken and 2 dishes of rice for 3 persons rather then ordering individual chicken rice. Prepare to wait in a long queue. The place closes when it sold out so come early.
