Very slow service, take ages to attend to my wife after she gave birth. Nurses are not helpful in briefing my wife the dos and don’ts after a cesarean procedure. Nonetheless, the nurses in the observation room are very professional and polite.

Long waiting time and poor service. Appointment system should be better managed. Patients should at least be updated on the waiting time.

Brian Manley (10/05/2018 02:05)
Very slow service, not nearly as responsive as other hospitals. They have far more patients than they have capacity for. Expect to wait at least an hour for your queue number to be called. UPDATE: the staff has apologized for the long delay and has promised to do better in future.

FURTHER UPDATE:
If you are taking the shuttle from Novena MRT, you must watch for the shuttle like a hawk and push your way in as soon as the doors open. It won't be easy to spot the shuttle, because it will be plastered with advertisements for cord blood freezing, supplements, etc. The word "Thomson" will probably be written somewhere in tiny text. If you see a shuttle for Cryoviva, that's probably the Thomson shuttle.

As soon as the doors open you must force your way on, lest the driver close the door in your face, as he did to my pregnant wife. Apparently he is eager to finish his route so he can take a smoking break, so he won't always let all the passengers on before driving away.

I used to come here for annual medical checkups about a decade or more ago. The service was decent and I recommend it.

For the childbirth part, Wards have barely any natural light. The place is cold and the doors do not have proper isolation. Too may ppl come in and out of the mother s room when all she needs is some rest... THE BABY : took my baby to the pediatric clinic for vaccination and we had to wait close to 2 Hours!!- In Ac room with other 20 sick children. She got the flu twice! I' ve had it. I appreciate the doctor, but they need to implement an sms service like sgh or any other clinic and allow parents to go out with their kids and come back few minutes before their turn. Awful experience.. If it weren't for the nurses i' d give it 1 star.. The hospital needs upgrading.

Appalling. Minimal waiting which I now realise was due to the doctor taking 30 seconds with each patient. Dont take your sick child here.

Has been calling the child birth education dept for 10+ calls but calls are not being answered. Wrote an email to request for reverting calls, the dept replied the email and I request again to give me a call as i has been calling since morning from 9am - 11am for things to be clarified.
No one reverting back a call.

Hope the dept can look into this matter as patient / customer experience could be low due to the person in charge is not responding.help and clarification needed but no response.
Thank you.

This is a very good maternity hospital, with reasonable rates yet very good medical staff.

Apart from the haaaels of parking. The hospital staff is very good. Overall a good place for medical facilities.

Had 2 kids there and had nothing but praises for the staff and doctors. Facilities were a bit old but adequate.

I recently visited this hospital with a hard food poisoning body. The medical certificate issued only states "this is certify that the above-an unemployment is unfit for work / school." The doctor, who looked very busy, took less than a minute. I have never seen such a rude doctor for a sick patient. I hope this hospital will be shut down.

Lukas Kwan (03/07/2017 05:34)
Respected private maternity hospital! Famous for childbirth as well as other specialties. Choice for the overseas elites. Professional caring friendly cosy ambience with facilities.

Great place to have your baby born in here. They need more experience staffs to teach how to nurse the baby to new mom.

Zoe Tian (19/05/2017 03:30)
I gave birth to 2 kids here with some pregnancy complications. I am very grateful for the care of DR W K Tan and all her personal nurses! The team deserves 5 stars but I reserve one due to the admin staff. Recently, I booked an appointment on Thomson homepage. When I called up the clinic 3 days in advance only to find that DR W K Tan's admin staff or system did not integrate with the hospital or something. I called up the counter, the lady tried to offer a few time slots. When I decided not to book, i was given the take-it or-leave-it attitude again.

Sean Michael Yip (26/04/2017 05:34)
Doctors here can be good depending on which clinic you go to. Nurses are competent.
The painful thing about this place is that the parking can be a nightmare. Whilst they do have valets here. I find most of them to be rude or impatient, there by making the already stressful parking situation worse.

This has pretty much turned me off from the place. For my family's pediatric needs, I much prefer other locations without the nightmare parking issue.

Harry Permadi (18/12/2016 03:26)
Very good Doctor, Dr. SF Loh. But terrible service from the nurse and admin staff. The nurse forgot to give important medicine, did not return the medicine that we buy to us and made us have to return to the hospital to ask for rest of the medicine. Long queue in settle down the payment. Somehow very expensive. I would not return to the hospital again, its not wortied.

Yohanes Thomson (03/11/2016 09:24)
a pity this medical centre is a bit small in size. but when it comes to facility there is nothing to doubt about it.

Gabriel Ng (06/10/2016 00:19)
This is the 2nd time my wife gave birth here, the nurses here are very nice and friendly. Food is good too. Only complain I have is the lack of food choices for visitors and the lousy parking areas.

Gregory Waldron (24/07/2016 04:11)
My wife recently gave birth at Thomson Medical Centre. The experience was overwhelmingly positive. The place would earn a five star except for the ineptness of the hospital's administration staff.

The delivery itself went smoothly. Our obstetrician Dr. Benjamin Tham is to be commended for this. I also have the highest regard and respect for the nurses in the birthing area. Their expertise is calming and they know how to deal with a woman (and a husband!) going through one of life's most profound events.

Upstairs, in the premier ward, the nursing staff were professional and highly competent. They have a real love for babies and this shines through.

My only complaint about Thomson is the admin staff. After we arrived at the hospital, my wife went to the delivery area and I was made to wait for one hour to complete her paperwork. My wife was fine, but the wait was irritating and unnecessary.

Two days after delivery we were to due to check out. A nurse told us that we had "express checkout", which meant we could avoid loitering around in the crowded patient services area on the ground floor.

We left, and very soon my wife and I were getting frantic calls from their customer service people asking us to return and sign paperwork. Given that my wife was still exhausted from the delivery, and that we had a newborn to deal with, I flatly refused.

They were kind enough to allow us to complete the paperwork when we return for a check up a week after delivery, but the admin staff really need to up their game. A polite visit from one of their staff the morning we checked out would have pushed this hospital up to five stars.

Would we use Thomson again? Definitely. I don't look forward to my interactions with the admin staff, however.

Over eight years after a woman died in childbirth in September 2007, her family has obtained a ruling from the Court of Appeal on 6 April allowing them to pursue dependency claims from her obstetrician and from Thomson Medical. This is despite the fact that the legal suit was filed past the three-year statutory limitation period. The Civil Law act allow such actions to be taken only within a period of three years after the person’s death.

The late woman’s husband filed a negligence suit on behalf of himself, his eleven-year-old daughter and his nine-year-old son. The family seeks dependancy claims for loss of support, savings and inheritance. The amount sought was not disclosed by the man’s lawyer, Ms Kuah Boon Theng.

In September 2007, after being administered oxytocin to induce labour, the woman had died during childbirth due to acute amniotic fluid embolism, where amniotic fluid entered her bloodstream. Her baby was also affected and now has severe disabilities due to brain damage at birth. The mother and child were under the care of obstetrician Dr Koh Cheng Huat.

A month after her death, the woman’s husband requested for and obtained her medical report from Dr Koh. Five months later, he also obtained his wife’s medical records from Thomson Medical. Upon questioning in January 2011, Thomson Medical confirmed that the records given to the man were complete. However, a medical expert whom the man consulted said otherwise, observing that the cardiotocography (CTG) reading, which measures the foetal heartbeat and the mother’s labour contractions, was incomplete. The man’s lawyer stated that he was under the impression that complete records had been provided to him.

In 2012, the man was informed by an expert that the cause of his wife’s death may have been the inappropriate use of oxytocin, which may have caused her acute amniotic fluid embolism.

In January 2014, the man and this two children filed the negligence suit.

In June 2014, further CTG records that were previously omitted were provided by Thomson Medical to the man. Thomson Medical’s reason for the delay was that the documents were being held by the police for a period of time after the woman’s death.

Thomson Medical had initially succeeded in striking out the suit filed by the man in 2014, citing that the three-year statutory limitation period had passed. Again in September 2015, the man’s appeal was dismissed by the High Court.

However, the Court of Appeal ruled for the family to be allowed to pursue their claims due to the late disclosure of full medical reports by Thomson Medical. The man’s lawyer Ms Kuah stated that Dr Koh and Thomson Medical had fraudulently concealed negligent acts by withholding medical records.

The trial judge will still make the decision regarding whether the Dr Koh and Thomson Medical can be prevented from using the limitation defence. Ms Kuah argues that the defendants should be prevented by the court from doing so.

The Court of Appeal also acknowledged that the case presented was arguable as the delay of the medical records may have led to the late commencement of the suit.

Great location and facilities but somewhat mediocre services by the nurses.

Good location. Lousy parking. Very professional service.

Contrary to other reviews, I believe it really boils down to the attitude of individual staffs. The care and attention my wife received was beyond my expectation. We were in the labour ward on 01/08/2015 approx 6.30am and was attended by a senior nurse whose name was Angie Liew (if I remember her name correctly), both she and her colleagues during the shift was very professional and caring. When my baby was in fetal distress and had to undergo an emergency c-sec, the instructions given by her to other staff nurses were quick and firm. I could see the sense of urgency in them and protocols were well adhered to. Eventually my baby was brought onto this world safely. Kudos to the team at TMC 😂💕
