Nice and cozy room. Quiet. Good hotel.
But less lively. There were only two customers including me in the bar with a live band, which was unconfortable to me. Nothing in walking distance.
Maybe good to stay calm in the hotel but not reccommended for guys who want more fun and excitement.

This hotel is badly in need of an upgrade. Room is spacious and has good views, but it is poorly maintained - carpets smell bad, toilet had stains on the walls, and the swimming pool water was cloudy. You can find better and cheaper hotels around JB.

Hotel building and room look amazing.
Until you stay in it....
Clogged bath tub, hairs on towels, sirty carpet.
Other than that.... it's an ok hotel.
Probably a problem of low quality of property maintenance.

Friendly staff excellent service. Room was clean and quite. Enjoyed our stay here. Will definitely recommend as a preferred choice in Johor Bahru.

Majority of Hotel in JB are at best average. This is one of those handful I will consider returning. Stayed for 2 nights, room is big and clean, good for my family with 2 young kids. Hotel is showing it's age but well maintained and well managed. It located some distance from the city center overseeing the Straits of Johor，will need a vehicle to move around.

The hotel is old and not all rooms are well maintained. I would give 2.5 stars if there is a half star option. I stayed for 2 nights and the first room that i had, the wardrobe door nearly fell on me because the hinges came off. The plumbing system in the bathroom was bad too. After shower, the whole floor was wet and formed little ponds of water. The phone system was down in the hotel and i had to feedback by going down to the reception.
Only after nearly getting injured by the falling wardrobe then did i get a new room for the next night. Rooms are considered pricey considering the condition of the hotel.

Thistle is good place to look if you're aiming for a relaxed staycation. It has a resort feel to it and the pool is huge and uncrowded. Although the water quality from the shower has a slight yellowish tint, it hasn't cause any problems. Simply request for mineral drinking water if required.

The rave reviews given to this hotel doesn't do justice to the condition of the hotel rooms, amenities, restaurants or services at the property. I arrived at the hotel with two colleagues for a meeting on a Sunday evening (10 Dec 2017). At the lift lobby we were greeted by the smell of stale air and dirty carpets. Upon entering the room which also stank from a combination of poor ventilation and dirty carpets I had another surprise waiting.
The toilet seat had fresh urine although the rest of the room appeared to be made up. The rest of my stay took a dive south from that point onward. Starting with the 40 minutes wait for our dinner. The food was completely bland, the seafood in my colleague's food were not fresh resulting in stomach upset. It is definitely not a hotel for hosting meetings as the meeting room facility are really ancient and belong to a different era altogether.

It's a nice and quiet part of town, away from the hustle and bustle yet near enough for a 5 minute drive back into town. Rooms are due for some paint work. Service and staff are great!

Placed booking of 2 deluxe rooms on different day. Maybe that's the reason hotel could not arrange for connecting rooms.
Hotel is pretty old.Bathroom condition is no good. But the service is good, staff are very friendly. Bed is very comfortable. View is beautiful. Satisfactory stay after all.

Thistle has always been my hotel choice whenever I visit Johor Bahru, it's nestled in a quiet corner away from the busy city centre but yet not too far away. The rooms are nice and spacious, the staff helpful and friendly, amenities plentiful. I particularly love the pizza and swimming pool there.

Check it was fast n quick; accompanied with a welcome drink. The room clean and tidy. Except the bath tub. Has a little stains. Room wasn't cramp and comes with a city view as per said. Bed gave a comfortable night sleep. Ordered in room meals. Food taste quite good I must say.

A 4-star hotel at its best. Pleasant stay at the hotel. Dinner & breakfast were superb. Room stay was amazing. Nice view of the sea as well as the surrounding area. Staff were professional & friendly.

Booked a suite, which was huge and had a linked bedroom for family. The view was great and the facilities fabulous.. Our balcony is enormous and I feel very privileged. Mind, we've not long arrived so haven't tried the gym, pool or restaurants, but first impressions are... Impressive. Cute bell bits and great room service. Thank you

Smiley n friendly staff. Room is big. Bed is huge. View is excellent. Pool still the same... Overall just a little older than 5 yrs ago but very well maintained I thought.

1st visit a yr or 2 ago was great! But my 2nd visit was far from great. The bedsheet was stained, and there was a cockroach in the room! Hence the average rating. Sadly a drop in their standards.

Although I was upgraded to a larger room, the aircon was not working well. The room was stuffy and I had to ask them to send a stand fan to keep the room cool. The bed was infested with bugs and I back and chest was bitten in many areas. Never will I stay there again.

Elevator from the parking area is very old. I took it once and was worried that I will be trapped inside it, only can accommodate 4 person on each ride.
The room facilities are dated and breaking down. The function on the Air condition is only on or off, can't make any adjustments. Toilet, wardrobe and cupboards are in bad condition.
At the room rate charged, better options are available.

Book suite. The view from the room is astoundingly beautiful. But you can see the interior design and the room itself is a bit old.

The room had a great view and the staff were professional, although the check in time could be made shorter. Housekeeping requires improvement though. My husband is on wheelchair and found the room size convenient for maneuvering himself.

I'd give credit to the staff for making it worthwhile. Staff were friendly and polite, but the state of the rooms looked under maintained. walls in the room looked under maintained. As well as the tub in the bathroom. There were burnt marks inside. The cupboards in the room we're dusty.

In keeping with Thistle resorts, this is a good experience. Nice location and easy access from the 1st causeway link. There's a nice night market just across the road in the evenings which is great of local food. During the day, there's a packed coffee shop just before Thistle which also serves good local fare. Recommended for a staycation.

Been here for Ramadhan buffet, for rm98 per head, quite dissappointed with the meal served, less variety, main menu are minimal, extras are ok, not sure what's the special for the price

Went here this weekend. As a first timer at Johor Bahru this is so far the must see hotel. Although the gym and spa is under renovation the other amenities are great. Pool water is very good. The staff are very friendly. The food are delicious.
