The Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque is a state mosque located in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. This mosque was officially opened by Sultan Ibrahim ibni Sultan Abu Bakar in 1900. The mosque is named after the Abu Bakar Mosque for taking on the name of Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar Daeng Ibrahim who had ordered construction in about 1892 at a cost of more than $ 400,000. Other than that, the mosque built on a small hill at the edge of the Tebrau Strait has 4 towers resembling several mosques in the countries of West Asia especially in Egypt. Its tower is 2 rounds above and four squares below and vaulted. The mosque can accommodate about 3,000 Muslim worshipers. Moreover, this mosque building art was designed by Tuan Haji Mohamed Arif bin Punak under the rule of the Dato 'Yahya bin Awalluddin. Furthermore, the mosque is also a landmark that proves that Malay engineers are also capable of building beautiful, strong buildings like Europe and Central Europe at the end of the 19th century. The building is square and is heavily influenced by Islamic architectural features. This mosque is square-shaped with 4 porch which each has a dome tower. Architectural style is English Victorian architecture.

One of the historic and biggest masjid in Johor Bahru. New architecture is very beautiful and outside is so peaceful sights. It can accommodate hundreds of worshippers and ladies prayer area is seperate. Parking is spacious. If you visit any masjid, please donate generously for the development and to run the expenses. It's sadqa e jariah (on going charity) even after death.

Beautiful and historic architecture. A must visit spot while you're in Johor Bahru.
Unfortunately the main structure is currently under major renovation and repair works. Will definitely visit again once the major repair works completed.

....we were out on a one day city tour of nearby Malaysia coming in from Singapore and this happened to be one of the sights you get taking to just to see and take photos, not even sure if they allow you to go in and look around! But its was once again something new and another photo for my collection and a tick next to this impressive iconic land mark here in Johor Bahru. .....
