Beer served was different from that which is on the menu. Servers clueless about the beer they are selling. No service personnel approached us even though the place was empty. Since the prices are comparable to other places around Singapore, probably will not come back here again.

Use to come here very often and the food and beer was very good and affordable, it was hard to get a seat at that time. Since two or 3 years before they have changed their price and food quality is going down, the music there is weird, beer taste not as good as before. Close to restaurant price , Not worth visiting again.

Food has been getting worse each visit. Beers have good variety but are average price. Come to drink, not to eat.

WeeSiong Ng (22/11/2017 11:21)
Edit (201711): Quality plummeted and it's no longer worth anywhere near the price it's asking for. The knuckle is dry, re-fried and not crispy. /// Old review:
Big pork knuckles. The signature dish at this atas kopitiam-ish stall disregards all modern conversations of health and dieting to present an extremely traditional and unique dish with a ridiculously huge portion. Definitely worth getting the platter (get the half-knuckle if your group does not have a big appetite, especially for fried stuff) and get some sides to go along with it if you are still hungry after that. Check out the photos!

Decided to give one more try to this place.
The food has gone from barely acceptable to really 'not nice'.
I ordered a full pork knuckle, and expected the same dressing
as before, but was shocked to see they have omitted the tasty
sour cucumber, and also the 2 pieces of sausages that came
with this full pork knuckle dish are omitted.
The sauce is now bland, and lacks the punchy old taste. The skin
of the pork was rubbery stiff hard, not nice at all !!!
My beer tasted sourish, and one reviewer also experienced the same;
he attributed it to overlong storage as there are way much lesser
customers now; the beer overturn rate is really very long leading to
the beer turning bad.
Even on Sat. and Sundays, there are only a handful of 7 to 8 customers,
The place really looks so run down, and most of the other beers are
not in stock at all; a sign that this food stall is planning to say sayonara
when its lease expires. There are now only 2 new Indian nationals chefs
in the kitchen, who only arrived a year ago; all other more skilled chefs have left. Thus, one can fathom why the standard of food is so bad now.
These newbie Indian nationals chefs should be trying their luck at Race Course Road Curry Fish Head stalls rather than at Stew Kuche!!!
Will 100% not patronize again, a total waste of my $40.

Service is Worse than NO-Service!!!!
Rude and arrogant staff and "ushers", who think they all own the place.
Heard the staff "Instructing ARMY STYLE" to the customers on where
to sit; in a rude and unfriendly manner on several occasions..
Also, a tall 30's Chinese man at the cashier thinks that the customers
are getting free food and not paying at all; he is always frowning or putting on a
black face, and never ever hearing him say 'Thank you' once even!!!
Once, I tried to pay him, but he pretended not to see me. Had to persuade
him to take my money so that I could get an order- sheer arrogance by this
bloody frustrated Chinese cashier man.
The prices of the food and beer are going up, up and up every few months.
For coffee shop ambience, not worth it at all. Better go to Brotzeit for such prices.
Initally, about 1 or 2 years ago, food taste quite good. But not now.
Taste of food getting worse and worse; my pork knuckle was way way too salty.
Stew Kuche is surely going the downhill-death row of HMV. Deservedly so.

Ordered a craft beer off the menu displayed on the screen. Specifically stated that I wanted a Red Racer IPA but was served a Licorne Black beer instead. When asking the staff about the mix up, they merely stated that the number of the tap did not match what was on the screen and made no attempt to make amends. Would not recommend a place where the servers know nothing about what they are serving.

Unbelievably overpriced and poor quality of food served

biwot yawanabe (05/08/2017 04:26)
No stock on many beers and service dismal even though not busy. Will not be back.

Used to be one of the better place to eat affordable german food

Jessie Ching (04/06/2017 09:55)
Loved the neighbourhood coffeeshop setting for a variety of western food options such as pork knuckles and sausage platter at reasonable prices. Call to reserve a place during peak dinner hours.

Good place for your fix of specialty beers

Hadi Wiputra (19/05/2017 02:55)
Hawker style western food. The pork knuckle is cheap (can share with two people) and good! As long as you dont have such a high hope for it.

Rajesh Shenoy R (07/05/2017 00:58)
Do a tasting before buying. There are extremely knowledgeable servers at the counter and there are totally clueless ones. Depends on your luck. Prices are not cheap for a place like this. Food at some stalls are just OK. Some are good.

Mindy Rosenfelder (01/04/2017 06:04)
Great food and good drink options, bit pricey for a hawker

Arron Li Pin Xian (06/03/2017 02:13)
Good variety of beer and western food. Pork knuckle was probably pre-prepared and gave me a hard time chewing, but still tasty nonetheless.

Considered expensive for what you get. Pork knuckle hard on the outside. Dry on the inside. Cold and prepared before hand. No difference from what you get from quick buy supermarket. As least the beers were good. Relatively large selection in a Kopithiam. Sausages ok. But doesn't reflect skill of chef. So my opinion. 2 stars. Pork knuckle fail as a German restaurant means you fail as a whole. Like tom yam to a thai restaurant.

harryson huang (22/02/2017 11:18)
Great hawker place for beer and nice ladies. But the pork knuckle is dry. Choose something else

Luisa Li Gan (29/12/2016 02:19)
Unique hawker-like place for a beer and a German style meal. Worth a visit! Lots of beers on tap. Pork knuckle is great for sharing between 3-4

Colin Birney (07/12/2016 21:32)
Great craft and German beer selection, best prices in Singapore. Awesome food options as well. Alex is fantastic!

Stelliana Siswanto (16/08/2016 02:31)
A pretty decent and delicious pork knuckle. Really worth the price, one of the cheapest in Singapore. The place also offers extensive range of craft beers choices. The stall selling seafood also serves crispy outside but soft inside calamari.

This place is as German as my Lederhosen from Aliexpress. The Roesti (not German in the first place) had the texture of badly mushed potato mush. The pork knuckle had a foul smell to it. The sausages were served on a slice of processed cheese. Half the menu not available. Beer was sour, no gas - keg sitting in the heat for too long.
Service - everything can not.
Singaporean owner, Indian and Chinese service and kitchen personnel. Why open a "German" restaurant? Why not stick with something you know and can manage? Sorry but this is a very sad state of affairs, certainly will never be back.

Lian Mei L (07/06/2016 14:37)
Food are good for sharing here. Wasn't crowded on a Thurs night. Beer are pricey though.

Benjamin Yang (04/04/2016 11:15)
Decided to pig out (pun unintended) on a Sunday evening and because we stay nearby, this was pick of the day after walking pass several occasions and it looks popular.

Although service is not expected in this kind of settings, I guess quite a number of people come here expecting some kind of service because of the pricing (expensive!).

Perhaps because we chose to come here early rather than late, the 'famous' uncle seem to be in a chirpy mood and always attentive.

We ordered a mixed grill (chicken|lamb|beef) and the half pork knuckle. Serving size is sufficient thankfully and although there are some hits and misses. The pork knuckle is a little over done at the edges but the crunch was great. The beef was tender with the steak knife slicing through it like butter. The chicken and the lamb on the mixed grill however was hard and dry.

Whilst this place delights in some, it also disappoints in others. If one were to go with lower expectations that might help make the overall experience a bit more pleasant. And go early to avoid the peak hour madness!

Veiverne Yuen (29/03/2016 15:51)
One of the more authentic German food joints in Singapore, with an assortment of imported German beers on tap. Beers aren't cheap (this is Singapore), but the food is affordable - and tasty too! Everything from pork knuckle to wurst platters.
