I cannot believe this place was free.
You could spend a full day walking through this garden. This is such a wonderful place to have in your city and something every city should have for it's residence.
The paths are long and wide and even on a Sunday afternoon it was not crowded. Scattered throughout the gardens are also grassy parks for people to picnic and play. Dogs are allowed in the park and they were all beautifully behaved.
All in all this was a great experience and one I would highly recommend.

Excellent place for plant lovers!!!! So many amazing tropical species and it is a UNESCO heritage. It is also a place for locals to enjoy the weekend. I spent a couple of hours walking around. It is for free, except for the Orchids Garden ($5). There are also restaurants and souvenir shops inside.

The gardens are absolutely beautiful! And there is no cost so this is perfect for anyone on a budget or anyone interested in gardening/flowers/nature. You could spend an entire day here looking at everything as there is so much to see. Just beautiful. The Orchid gardens have a $5 entrance fee but only $1 for students, including foreigners. Definitely worth seeing!! Especially as a UNESCO World Heritage site

This must be one of the most wonderful free places to visit in Singapore! Beautifully landscaped with a lovely variety of flora which as you can imagine in Singapore's tropical climate, grows so lushly. There are reasonably priced and higher end eateries in the gardens as well as surgically clean toilets which are designed to blend in with the gardens perfectly. We'd watched the Duke Ellington Band play by the Symphony Lake and I couldn't think of a better way to spend a late Sunday afternoon.

There's a reason why the Singapore Botanic Gardens is one of the most popular places to visit. It's huge - I've gotten "lost" in it numerous times! It's a central pocket of greenery, one of the oldest undeveloped parts of Singapore and has trees and plants going back to the 1800s. Check the website for weekend concerts - bring along a picnic basket, mat and food and drinks to chill out. There's lots of floral and fauna to see - birds, butterflies, dragonflies, squirrels, monkeys, monitor lizards and more live in the gardens. Try the Orchid Garden too - Burkill Hall, a traditional Black and White bungalow is within. The new Learning Forest annex with the bridge is interesting to explore with a great view at the top of the bridge walkway. There's toilets and drinks and food at various points.

Great place for regular jogging, outing and having fun. Kids friendly, fun places available for kids. Food available inside. Pond, flowers, huge trees, swans etc. Lots of empty space for playing. Symphony orchestra inside ..live music in front of the lotus pond is amazing. Check the video clip. Must must visit place.

Our very own UNESCO World Heritage site. This old dame has been around since before independence and it provides a nice respite from the busy city state goings-on. Come here for the varied plant species, Orchid Gardens or simply just to have a run or walk. During the weekends, indulge in the periodic free performances and concerts; what better way to spend the weekend among greenery and the arts. Great for picnics and runabouts for little ones or the pet pooch.

Like anything in Singapore the gardens are well planned. The gardens are very big and you can spend there 5 hours. However, we were there approximately two hours, visited the west side of the park.
Variety of plants, trees, flowers and animals (in the lake).
Some of the activities inside the gardens require entry fees while the entry to the botanic gardens is free of cost.
We had great experience there and I wish you too.

A nice place to visit while in Singapore especially if you are into nature. The orchids are really pretty and you can get some really good photos here so do not forget your camera. A relaxing place that adults will enjoy and the kids can have fun running around and exploring. It is also cool to say that you went and visited a 158 year old tropical garden and that it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This place is great! It has a lot of different types of plants and very detailed explanation about those plants. It is a great place to learn or to bring your family. There is also a playground and a mist area which kids will enjoy and there are a few restaurants I think. I love this place and there are a lot of tourists visiting this place. Definitely worth checking out if you are a tourist

Once of the best Botanic Gardens i have been to. The orchids collection is simply the best. Spend a good hour if not two just in the Orchid garden. Remainder of the time stroll around and enjoy the beautiful park.
I don't recommend City Tour as they only spend 45 mins here, really need half a day and if you take a picnic you could easily do a day here.
Very large park so does not appear crowded. Suggest use train to get there.

Fantastic lots to see and do. There is rain forest flowers a beautiful orchid garden. There is water plants lakes some full of wild life. There is lots of refreshment places lots of drinking water fountains. You could send the full day here. And bringing a your own food and drink could make it a really special day it your a couple or a family.

Always a fun outing for families and nature lovers. It's a popular destination with locals and tourists so could see quite a lot of people sometimes. Evening strolls or picnics are perfect. It's a big place, a day won't be enough for tourists who are into plants and habitats, many information to read and photos to take!
Julie Wong (25/11/2017 08:43)
Great selection of flora and faunas. Each display is stunning and very well done. Some of the best arrangements I've seen. There is student discount available for the orchid garden. The main areas of the garden is free. It's easy to get to as it is next to transit station.
Tan William (22/11/2017 03:25)
Huge big garden in the heart of Singapore town, proud to be a Singaporean with this one. And now there's even a MRT station too, which brings much convenience to visitors from anywhere. It's FREE entry, has adequate restrooms and H2O supplies around the garden, plenty of walking paths (narrow though), and lots of areas to chill for couples, families, kids... probably singles to find love too. Great place to plan for a picnic!
Jacqueline Chan (21/11/2017 14:34)
A very big place with a very relaxing atmosphere. Be sure to bring walking shoes, a hat, water bottle which you can refill in some water fountains in the area. Comfy clothes are a must. Around an entire day or a half can make your stroll there relaxing. Flowers planted there are very beautiful too. Picnics are great here as well.
Masyitah A. Latif (21/11/2017 00:58)
Lovely place with many varieties of flora and fauna to explore! Its a big garden so the walking will give you great exercise, and there are plenty of benches to rest at along the way, a food isle (where you can also buy ice cream!) to stop at for lunch (although a bit pricey), and many opportunities to stop and smell the flowers (:
Rusha Chakraborty (25/08/2017 03:36)
Various different trees. Great for run or walk. The orchid garden inside the botanic garden has a entrance fee but full of amazing variety of orchids. Especially during Chinese New Year and National Day you can spot amazing flora!
Debsubhra Chakraborty (23/08/2017 06:26)
A true hidden treasure inside Singapore. Everyone now goes to the flashier Gardens by the Bay, but the Botanic Gardens are equally good! And the best part is - all of it is free! An extraordinary delight inside the garden is the orchid garden (the only place where you need to buy a ticket - nominally priced) - do check it out! You'll be more than surprised!
Milada Talic (19/08/2017 08:03)
Most beautiful place I have ever been. It makes you feel as you are the part of the nature and responsible for everything you do because it makes a small step to make something amazing like this. And to keep it. I don't have many photos to add, I just enjoyed it and forgot about everything else.
Paul Chan (12/08/2017 08:57)
One of the best tropical botanical gardens in the world. Return visit after an gap of over 20 years. Much have improved for the visitor experience, especially since the UNESCO award recently.
Great retreat from the hubbub of the city. Almost feels like a different world. Tip would be to go early in the mornings before the heat of the day. They open very early (530am?) It is an amazing experience wandering the trails and listening to the jungle wake up!
As fair critique, signage and access for the mobility impaired could improve. For example, there appears to be only 1 elevator from the underground parking garage. Was out of service during visit and no alternatives were provided. Spent a lot of time wandering the warm and humid garage with poor signage. When this was pointed out to the staff, the response received was "but there are stairs you can use" ... In the garden trails, mobility access routes could be better signed and rampstep edges marked.
Hannah Jane (24/06/2017 00:50)
Lots of gardens and plants to see whatever the time of the year. Basically all for free which is amazing. Definitely worth a visit but be prepared to be hot and bring suncream. There are water fountains dotted around to refill bottles. The orchid gardens were definitely worth the money too. I would recommend for all ages you can spend ages there.
Jim Faherty (19/06/2017 09:22)
A beautifully landscaped botanic garden, in the classic UK style with lakes, winding pathways and an orchid garden. There are sometimes live music performances at the Shaw Symphony Stage. There's also a handful of nice restaurants inside the gardens themselves, the best being The Halia.
A great place to come for a stroll to escape modern life.

Singapore's pride! Nature at the heart of a progressive city. It houses the National Orchid Center and a number of gardens, lagoons, and plant showcases. You can also encounter various animals going about the garden like orioles, monitor lizards, and other reptiles. This area is senior citizen - friendly and has lots of rest areas indoors or alfresco.
Tushar Nagpal (02/06/2017 07:46)
It's the only tropical garden to be regarded as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It houses unique Flora and is truly picturesque in all its senses. Come here to relax, read a book, do a family picnic, play with your kids or attend a symphony concert. A complete place to enjoy with family.
Vinod Kumar Bhaskaran (02/05/2017 01:55)
Truly a green Paradise on Earth. A UNESCO world heritage site. Photographers would be delighted at the opportunities this place offers.
Entry is free except for the National Orchid Gallery which is the center of attraction.
One can easily get tired by walking. Wish they had a tram or strollers for the young ones.
Gamer Chloe (30/04/2017 12:11)
This place is beautiful! You can jog, walk, relax, play and do lunch more here! The plants and trees are very beautiful and smell great. There is a big open field too do that you can play and have a picnic with you're family. There is a canopy net that is really fun to walk on. If you don't like the sun and want to have a picnic, there are a few picnic spots under some shady areas that would block out the sun so you could enjoy your picnic. There is also a pong where elegant swans would swim but remember, do not feed them! Overall, I would rate botanical gardens a 10/10!

The Singapore Botanic Gardens was founded at its present site in 1859 is a 158-year-old tropical garden. It is one of three gardens, and the only tropical garden, to be honored as a UNESCOWorld Heritage Site. The Botanic Gardens has been ranked Asia's top park.
The National Orchid Garden, within the main gardens, has the largest orchid collection of 1,200 species and 2,000 hybrids.
Singapore's botanic gardens is the only one in the world that opens from 5 a.m. to 12 midnight every day of the year. More than 10,000 species of flora is spread over its 82-hectares area, which is stretched vertically; the longest distance between the northern and southern ends is 2.5 km (1.6 mi). The Botanic Gardens receives about 4.5 million visitors annually.

A wonderful place to visit weather rain or shine.
Typical of Singapore, this place gets quite busy but thankfully is large enough that you can find brief moments alone and some real relaxation if you are willing to venture off the more typical paths that people take.
There are a few opportunities to picnic etc in this garden and also a wonderful lake filled with many turtles and catfish.
Lots of breath-taking and well-presented flowers, it is very easy to spend the best part of a day here.

True paradise, this place is amazing. The orchid exhibit was fantastic. Unbelievably beautiful. Went on a Saturday and lucked out with the symphony playing. The grounds are so beautiful. Well maintained and such beautiful mature trees, really enjoyed it here. A UNESCO world heritage site. Definitely recommend.

Great place to visit and relax from the rush of Singapore. There gardens are beautiful and have a lot to see if you like flowers. The orchid part is well worth the money.
Patrik Jurčišin (16/02/2017 13:07)
Just a few minutes on train from city and you will enjoy most beautiful creation and variation of plants and animals. Great walk through garden where you will find spot for coffee, little snack and lunch at Restaurant Verde.
Definitely do not miss Orchid gardens. Entrance fee apply 5 dollars Adults, Commission for Seniors, Local and International Students for free !
Enjoy beauty of Orchids.

Super easy to get to by MRT. Lots of open space, great for a family day. Did 8km worth of walking here. The gardens are separated into many different areas including an orchid garden, spice garden, and temperature controlled mountain species building. There is a small group of restaurants to have a bite at here as well in the middle of the gardens.
Stephanie Kondratow (16/01/2017 13:39)
I loved it here so much I came back a second time during my trip! The botanic gardens are gorgeous! Definitely see the orchid gardens as well. This was a highlight of my trip. It's a must if you enjoy the beauty of nature.
Matthew Hardman (25/10/2016 16:26)
This place is amazing and a truly beautiful part of Singapore. I usually spend most Sundays walking around it with a friend for exercise while my kids like to ride around on their scooters. The mornings are absolutely the best time to be here and the way they have set it up is brilliant. If you want to see nature in the heart of a metropolis, this is your place.
Vince Burke (21/10/2016 10:21)
Easy parking during the day, bit tougher at weekends and when there is an event on at the Shaw Stage. Great place to walk the dog. A few eateries near the garden shop and National Orchid Garden. Make sure to visit the Orchid Garden, it's beautiful, even if you are not a gardener.
At the end of your trip best to book a taxi rather than wait in the taxi line.
Vikas Sharma (17/10/2016 05:52)
Good place to discover plants from different parts of the world. Orchid garden is really good. It has a cool house specially for orchids which need colder climate to survive.
Singapore botanic gardens is a nice place to spend a weekend with family.

Beautiful garden and large one too. Plenty of plants and lakes and flowers. We can walk and walk but still won't get tired!we had been there many times and approachable by bus. Very clean and plenty of place to eat. Very educational!
LeAnn Agnew (12/07/2016 05:20)
Get up early, eat a hearty breakfast and plan on spending the day here! Lots of walking trails, nicely organized, and a shady fountain area for midday relaxing. I loved the orchids area most. There was a display of specially bred orchards for famous and important people. Loved the one bred for Princess Diana. A lovely grass area for playing in. If you can, plan on two days to see every thing! They open at 7a.m.
Nan Dar (07/07/2016 13:10)
A World Heritage garden with many plant specimens. Within the garden, one can find a great Orchid Garden with mesmerizing blooms at all times. By the lake, you may serenade the graceful ripples created by those beautiful swans. Please mark in your itinerary the next time you are in Singapore.
Josh Gray-Emmer (22/06/2016 10:10)
There are so many amazing attractions in Singapore that don’t cost a penny. I didn’t have time on my short trip to conquer them all, but I did get a chance to explore the Singapore Botanical Gardens and their MASSIVE Orchid Complex. The Gardens are so stunning and huge that they are a registered UNESCO World Heritage Site. You won’t be bored I promise. Definitely pay the small $5 SGD ($3.70 USD) fee to gain access to the Orchids. They have rare species from all over the globe laid out an amazing clusters among winding roads and greenhouses that stretch for miles. The whole thing is made to look natural, but you can tell it’s $100M+ worth of orchids carefully arranged and tended to with the eye of an architect to have the maximum visual impact.
Ana Barr (02/06/2016 07:53)
Dear all, please DO NOT FEED local wildlife as they simply cannot digest human food such as bread.
This is a beautiful garden and without wildlife it won't survive. Be gentle☺️
Apri Swajaya (31/05/2016 05:20)
Looking for a nice stroll in a park full of flowers and trees? Look no further. It is a nice place to hang out and chill and be immersed with the flora. Best part is it is free to enter for anyone, just be sure to keep it clean and not to litter so the next person can enjoy it as well
Robert Cooke (28/03/2016 23:11)
I have to say I have visited many Botanical gardens in many places but this is 1 of the best. It's probably enhanced that it's a city that is dominated by skyscrapers and massive building projects.
There is easy access to it on the metro line. The gardens themselves are quite big but divided into different sections so it's not all samey. This includes the orchid gardens which is $5 to see. Everything else is free. When I was there on a big stage in middle of park someone was playing the best of Chopin on a piano. How many botanical gardens do that! It's a cool place to walk around for a few hours
So if you want to escape to somewhere more relaxing without splashing out. Choose here.
