Food is good, not excellent...
Prices are on the higher side when compared to the similar South Indian non veg restaurants in little India..A chicken tikka is $13, masala chicken per piece is $6.50, white rice is ~ $3 etc..
Tried garlic nan which was cold and had no flavour.
Overall, this restaurant cater to those wanting to try Indian cuisine without the adventure of going to the crowded restaurants in little India

I have been patronizing this restaurant for almost a decade and till today the food still tastes the same especially the masala chicken and mutton mysore. Really authentic and delicious South Indian food. Kudos to the management who still choose to prepare food the traditional way.

just two of us to dine and we went when they just opened at 6pm. We ordered a fish tail and the waiter asked if we wanted a big one and we said yes. What came was a large fish head. They took sometime to take it away after asking many times what we had ordered. Later they came to tell us they had RUN OUT of fish tails. So we agreed to have the fish body instead. They sent us one tiny slice of fish and charged us $4.70 for it. On our way out after our meal we saw a big fish tail being sent to another table. To confirm this, we actually called the restaurant to check if they had fish tails for 2 pax. And they said they did ! Utterly disappointed at their antics which was obviously a ploy to get us to just take the fish head ! Not everyone eats the head by the way. Thumbs down for lying to us in our faces. Such dishonesty is appalling for a restaurant that is frequented by tourists !

First visit here after it being recommended to me. It’s a fairly informal place where shorts and T-shirt would be quite acceptable.
The food and drinks are very reasonably priced and are of very good quality.
Tables are numbered and set out in rows, you can fill one with one person or six.
Staff are friendly and happy to discuss the menu with you, I’m not too into curry that is very spicy so this was helpful.
A totally authentic Indian cuisine eat in place.

Awesome food and great atmosphere. One of the best Indian food places in Singapore. Must try!

I have been to this place for decades. In the past the curry was even spicier. But in recent years they seemed to have toned it down to meet the taste buds of the expats. Still it is the best place for authentic Indian curry on a banana leaf. Fish head curry and tandoori chicken are my favorites. They are real generous with the papadoms and side dishes of vegetables which are free flow.

This place is the best and has been since it opened for business in 1970. When referencing Indian food, Northern Indian food is what most people have in mind. Samy's is an honest to goodness Southern Indian restaurant where the offerings are more aggressively spiced, hotter and therefore possessed of a dark complexity that is captivatingly luscious. You can't or won't stop coming back for another bite until you discover that you've demolished an either fish head, which is the house specialty. Other recommendations are the fish cutlet, the masala chicken, the ginormous prawns (they're not really called that, but they are huge!) and the Mysore mutton. Sit back and luxuriate in dining where they still serve everything up on fresh banana leaves! Oh one more thing...Samy's is located in a charmingly colonial building, harks back to when the place was a British military camp.

Came to this place after a television recommendation, didn't know this place exist even though I have been running through this place since 30 years ago. The curry fish head is BIG for 2 person, yet priced economically. we ate on banana leaves, chicken masala a little spicy so not recommended for people who can't take spicy food. Overall the exprience is good and informal, go off peak hour best but place is big enough for large crowd. situated just beside jumbo restaurant. Not easy to reach by public transport, but just opposite botanic garden, so a good place to drink coffee and eat something.

The best place for banana leaf curry. Fish head curry is their popular signature dish. Better taste than banana Leaf Apollo restaurant.

Good for basic quick lunch fix or an awesome sumptuous meal in big groups. Masala chicken is good! Fish curry is very good too!

Authentic Indian food at Dempsey hills, easy to get there by car/taxi. The fish head soup is very good and tasty. Prepare your belly guys!

Great Briyani served on a banana leaf. Closed on Tuesdays. Don't get pressured into ordering seafood unless you really want to.

One of the few places that REFUSES to change with the times... This is why I love it... Granted the orders are now taken by a server with a phone... but that is really just lip-service to modernisation. Great food, a bit pricey, but worth it for the environs. Great place to bring visitors to Singapore. Remember to fold your banana leaf TOWARDS you after you've finished!

I have eaten here for 40 years when CMPB was at Dempsey Road. Recently my daughter joined me eating at this place. The food remained authentic South Indian and consistent good quality. The curry is tolerable even for any who can't take hot curry.
Service during busy lunch time is very good and fast

Good fish head curry and nice outdoor seating with lush green trees... Good service to top it all!!!

This food used to be spicier but they may have toned it down for expats like myself. This is a slight disappointment because I actually preferred the former. Nonetheless the authentic experience of eating Indian food in banana leaf is still a novel one, and with such aromatic dishes, you really can't go wrong. Surprisingly cool and well ventilated. Evenings are the best time to come in my opinion.

I have been coming to Samy's Curry for years. The one things that keeps me coming back is the consistency in the food quality. Samy's serves true South Indian curry dishes that are hot and spicy...but sooo good. I have never had an occasion when I have invited Singaporean business colleagues or friends to lunch or dinner at Samy's and they have suggested we go to another place. My foreign guests have also enjoyed the food... though some have found "fish head curry" a totally new experience. There are many South Indian restaurants in Singapore, but for me it's Samy's Curry that is first. If you haven't made a visit do so. You will not be disappointed.

This will always be my favorite spot for Indian food! The fresh lime juice always tastes amazing and refreshing with the spices from the food. I make sure I always have a meal here while I'm in Singapore

The biriyani rice with masala chicken is a must have. Its also popular for fish head curry :)

Best fish head curry. Been coming here since I was a kid. Love the dry lamb curry and the chicken tikka too.
Ian Cho (19/12/2016 12:20)
Famous fish head curry of Samy's. It is good and I'd give 4.5 stars for the fish head but 3 for rest. Too bad that much of the food has been already prepared and heated up before it is served. Can understand for fish head but rest can be made by order in my mind
Fandu Rauschenberg (15/10/2016 19:10)
Very straightforward and streamlined menu but the food and the atmosphere is fantastic. Prices are moderate and there's even a decent wine selection. Could get crowded at dinner time but waiting time is not that long. Very friendly and attentive waiters.

One of the best South indian food around..

Nice curry and place for a casual dining. Careful with the seafood, ask the price before u order, as some find it rather expensive.

No frills, good food, lots of Indian customers (good signal, isn't it?). Indoor and outdoor.

The beer and the food was amazing. I would have stayed longer but probably wouldn't have been able to move afterwards. Also very well priced for being on the Hill.

Decent place with really nice mango lasi though the selection might be a little spicy for the average person to take.

Once part of the Civil service club before the area became and F&B haven, Samy's has been serving up awesome Indian food for maybe 3 decades now. I grew up on their spicy and tender Fish Head Curry. Throw in some papadums, that was a meal for me. The other dishes are also good, such as the masala chicken, but lean on the pricey side. I recommend this highly, though only for those who love it hot. You will remember your dinner the next day ....
