Simply for backpackers. Dont expect for more. Expect that you will be sleeping with total strangers.
Anyway, they have friendly staff.

A hostel located right in the heart of Chinatown, which is Smith Street. You can find a lot of food stall just a walk away from the hostel. Mrt station and merchandise stores at pagoda street are only 2 alleys away and 2 famous religious site, Sri Mariamman temple and Buddha Tooth Relic temple are right on the end of the street. The hostel itself serves comfortable beds with bed lamp and electricity access for each bed and also a locker which you have to buy your own padlock. Mineral water is serve for free but you have to bring your own bottle. 2 bathrooms and 2 toilets available in each dorm room with soap. You have to bring your own towel although you can rent for sgd 2 for your entire stay.

I would highly recommend this hotel despite the not so good smell bcoz it's a mixed gender dorm for 16 pax still It's strategically located in Chinatown, easy to find, near some spots and food is everywhere, the staff's are welcoming and accommodating. The rate is relatively cheap and comes with an on the go breakfast.

Location wise excellent. But in terms of cleanness still far behind. Air circulation not good as there are total 24 ppl in a room. Breakfast in complimentary is suck, I would rather pay extra for a better one. Receptionist is polite but only performing his task assigned. I wouldn't consider to stay back with the price I paid as I know there are plenty of hostel provide a more spacable place than here.

Great location right on the China town food street! Loads to do and everything within walking distance! Would recommend this place as a budget place to stay in Singapore. We stayed for 2nights.
The staff are super friendly and advise on the best places to eat and go. They can even post your postcard for you for S$1.50. The place is really nice and clean and spacious for Singapore but if you've never been it still feels a bit small. Large lockers are available (bring your own lock) and linen is included. They give you a breakfast coupon too which is worth S$2.
There's only two showers and two toilets so be prepared to queue or get up early/late to miss the crowds.
We were disappointed with the noise levels despite signs saying please be quiet. We had a 6am wake up on Monday morning due to hostel guests turning lights on, opening and closing lockers (loud) and generally having no consideration for others. But if you get a good bunch of people then your in for a treat!

Nice place. A little too much of restrictions. Not much common space to hang out in.

This is a good hostel. It's very clean. It has private space and talking space. It has free Wi-Fi.

DO NOTE: no towels included - bring your own
Royal Hostel is a great, fairly bare-bones hostel experience but it's priced exactly there. The bed, room, AC, bathrooms were all fine and serviceable. There isn't really a common gathering room though so there will definitely be less connecting with others, which you should note. However, for this price, definitely a great option for a bed to sleep in. The owner/manager is a nice & funny guy too!

Nice hostel and good location, can reach good cheap food around. Beds are comfy and all instructions are clear, self serve when you're here. Quite safe but better buy a lock in a supermarket nearby to lock your locker.

Enjoyed the stay. The bed has curtain so we can enjoy some privacy.
It's clean, no bugs. I was happy with my stay here.

Bad staff. Why? Here's why: the front desk people all of a sudden treated me and my mom like dirt for no reason at all. We didn't even do anything to make them look down on us when we came to check in, ridiculous. They made the other guests feel unwelcomed. They bad mouthed about the other guests in a language the guests wouldn't understand (they didn't know Mom could speak Chinese). And the housekeeper, she was obviously fixing to steal, it was all over her face.
