Very good at teaching students values and academic excellence, but doesn’t know how to deal with bullying in class, Teachers pretended not to notice and expects us to take action on our own by telling them. You can ask them to change seats for you especially if you’re bullied. Or talk to the school counsellor if you need extra help. Ex-northlander here.
Very strict Teachers who also scold students whenever they did something wrong, for example whenever one don’t know how to turn on or off the lights. Another incident is when students are not performing up to standards and forgot to do homework, they will reprimand them in front of class. Some Teachers like to call students out by register number, if you’re afraid, do what you’re supposed to so that you won’t regret. You’re also expected to bring wordbank book for every English lessons to write down important vocabulary that can make your composition better. Try arranging them in themes, (e.g Environment, Education, Public Transport) make use of the sentences and know how to use the vocabulary words. Moreover, they can make use of it in Oral. If you cannot keep up with the writing speed ask the teacher to slow down politely. They will not scold you.
The students are expected to know all the rules especially in Northland. Diary is a useful tool, it’s very important to protect it, they can plan their schedule there. They need to read their school diary to adhere to the school rules and also record down important events. They need to read timetable that tells them when recess is and what’s before and after. They have to protect the timetable in their own homework file, with lots of plastic covers.
For example, organising files, knowing when supplementary (extra) lessons starts, wearing the right attire especially for Physical Education (PE) attire during PE lessons and Sports Day. Sports Day wear sports attire like Garnet, Topaz, Emerald, Amethyst and Sapphire and dress with shorts inside for girls. Learn to tuck in your shirt properly, it’s uncomfortable, for girls, especially if it’s too tight. You have to buy a bigger one, if someone called you fat, complain to the teacher. If you need Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) tell the shop auntie, or just wear PE shorts at your own risk.
Moreover, they should pick a CCA (Co-curricular activity) that they actually like and is serious about, and develop their talents from there so that they can outperform others. Learn to be ambitious! They can ask the teacher bravely when they’re uncertain, or tell their parents to change CCA so that they don’t have to feel pressurised from their peers especially when it’s a CCA they don’t like. They have to be clear with what they like and what they’re good at, if not nobody can help them. Certain CCA can help them in their academic studies, like English Club. It depends on their interests.
Camp, is a great way to experience outdoor life. You should know what to prepare for camp beforehand, towel, shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste. (These are toiletries) Undergarmets as well. Remember to bring extra shirts, track pants and water bottles to prevent dehydration and strokes, on a hot sunny day. Bring a sleeping bag and mosquito repellent too IF you’re staying overnight. The Teachers will give you a list, compulsory is a must-haves, optional is up to you. If you need to let out air, just fart and say excuse me, it’s natural and better than holding in until your stomach hurts, just because you feel embarrassed around people.
Last but not least, Graduation is the day after PSLE (Primary School Leaving Examination), you should attend Graduation Ceremony, because you can attend lots of fun gatherings with your classmates, and also make friends with people like your crush. Join the WhatsApp group get his/her number, talk to them by asking what’s their interest, gauge their reaction, smile and be friendly. Don’t just lie in bed because you feel “stressed” after PSLE, take the initiative and make lots of fun and happy memories. That’s all I learnt from my experience in Northland.

Northland Pri prides itself as a school that puts chess as an important part of a child's development. The chess club has more than 80 members, and chess is integrated curriculum time. Mr Chang is the exuberant teacher in charge
