Bak Kut Teh and traditional coffee are excellent! No complaints with the food quality

I had their copi, the one with less condensed milk and it was good.
Their bak kut teh was alright but I would expect it a little more tasty.
Their chicken curry was kinda hot and spicy.
By the way, smiling isn't typical here :)

So happy that this was so close to my hostel! I ate breakfast here every day I was in Singapore because the kaya toast, eggs, and coffee set was just too good to pass up and at only 2£ it's hard to beat budget wise. I loved the coffee and the fact that they've got posters and menus explaining how to order it the way you like. Service was quick and friendly every time and you can choose to have your food/coffee inside the shop or just out in front of it. All good all around.

Just a place you have to go to later in the evening especially before it closes. Classic sweet coffee style. A real must after a China Town street walk or outdoor food hall.

I love this place, because they put in so much effort to decorate the place, it is full of flavor. Coffee and food are just above average, nothing to shout about, but ambience is full marks

You get coffee just like you get your soup, from a bucket using a soup ladle. They have no soy milk or any alternatives to dairy milk. But to compensate for that they have fast Wifi.
The place feels old and authentic, and the coffee is quite good. And only S$1.7 for a black coffee.

The kopi (coffee) is good and the Pandan Chiffon Cake is great. The people working there are very kind. They gave me a lot of information about the neighbours and the best way to find what I was looking for.

Queue slightly long on sat sat morning
But the service is super slow.
Reach my turn. The person say bread has to wait 20 min.... First and last visit. Next time go Ah Kun nearby faster service.

I like the coffee. It is not a traditional western style but a typical Nanyang taste. Great place for a nice breakfast and there are some sets for you to choose. Not expensive and very local. Highly recommended if you are right here. The inside deco will take you into old times. I learned a word called Guzao Wei 古早味。That means something feelings in your memory. So I would say this coffee shop is full of 古早味. Enjoy.

Good place to sit down and relax while sipping a cup of kopi.

Good coffee but not worth a trip down. Good atmosphere for tourist.

Beautiful living museum with kopitiam paraphernalia and documentation.
Super friendly service staff.
Incredible kopi O. Taste reminiscent of olden days labourers' coffee brewed in pot over wood fire at construction site.
Toasted bread not bad.

Traditional style coffee and local foods. Had the eggs, kaya toast, and coffee; eating sweet toast with soft boiled eggs was a revelation. Good, strong coffee.
Considering an espresso is $4-5 this breakfast was great value.
Interesting historical artifacts from old coffee houses. Enjoyed this little place.

Quality coffee - really nice toast as well. Really cheap - only SGD3.50 for coffee and toast. Friendly service.

An Oldschool coffeeshop you shouldn't miss!

With its bright red building in the corner, you can see it from afar. It provides meals package which is very affordable IMO. Their Kaya toast is delicious and fulfilling, love it.

Singapore-taste thick black coffee with traditional breakfast set is my favourite.

The coffee institution in Chinatown, always good to have a traditional drink with kaya toast and semi boiled eggs.

Nice little coffeeshop in heart of Chinatown. It serve local coffee aims at getting tourist money.

The strongest, most 'gau' tea in Singapore. Seriously good kuey

The kopi has a more western coffee blend flavor. Not like the kopi I tried in other locations. Some might like that. But it's not my recommendation to taste "eastern kopi".

I actually only came here because my hostel (Royal Hostel) had a breakfast deal with them. The line at 8am was fairly long though which suggests good things - line also moved fairly fast.
I got the lo mai gai - or sticky rice chicken. Usually a dim sum item, steamed while wrapped in a lotus leaf. There was no lotus leaf here, but it was actually pretty tasty overall. It did lack the characteristic leaf flavor but the rice was cooked very well and the sauce had a terrific depth of meatiness and savoriness. I would recommend it.

Decent local delights here. Tried the Bak ku Teh and it tastes not bad! The coffee and tea here are pretty good as well. Don't go too late as the stuffs will run out. The Asam fish is good too if you want something sour and spicy!

Great coffee. I order strong coffee with milk, locally known as, "Kopi-Gao".
The coffee has a robust flavour with a faint hint of mocha flavour.

A 4-star place for newcomers & tourists eager to try some local delicacies (kopi is not too bad) -the menu is quite appealing and well explained. A 3-star place otherwise as I found yet the whole place fairly overrated and overpriced. The most expensive kaya set so far. Maxwell food court right behind is worth the walk instead.
Robert Chohan (18/07/2016 22:19)
The very first place I had Singaporean kopi-o (black coffee with sugar). The coffee is brewed very well and has a robust taste compared to the other places I tried. I love how it's such a tiny shop right on the door step is China Town, so easy to access for tourists.
Have the kaya butter toast. Delicious. Especially with the half boiled eggs, crack the shell, tip into saucer and season with white pepper and dark soy. I craved this when I return to the UK
