It's has fine rooms for a single or a couple, however not much in terms of storage space. 81 Sakura offers good free WIFI and I commend it for being priced appropriately.

It was definitely decent for its cheap price, but there are some cons to it.
First, the room was kinda smoky, pretty sure they didn't allow smoking indoor but apparently it wasn't regulated strictly enough. Secondly, the overall cleanliness is not very great, sloppy cleanup lead to a poor state. Thirdly, the toilet is not pretty to look at and it does not contain any subtances for a shower. Lastly, the location isn't that great. While there are many local hawker/food centers around with few shopping malls, it is not a tourist friendly location as the major transport system, the train, is not closeby.
But on the other hand, they had friendly and professional staffs, daily refill of complimentary bottled waters and tidying up of the bed, and there was a launderette just across the street.
I probably wouldn't stay here again due to the location, but if it were any closer to a train station I would modt certainly consider this hotel.
P.S. The hotel doesn't really live up to the name 'Sakura'. Not very Japanese in there.

Clean and affordable hotel for backpackers. Situated at night live neighborhood. Neighborhood offers a few selection of Chinese and Vietnamese food

Offers spacious accommodation @ budget rate. Though rooms are not well furnished, its appealing rates are the reason why people choose to return here. No transit here though. Only overnight check-in

Offers affordble accomodation along Joo Chiat Rd. Rooms are quite old but clean. Staff are very friendly and accomodating. You need to ride a bus to get to the nearest MRT station. Nearest mall is I12 Katong.

Given us a room without a window. It was not specified when I booked. Wooden furniture full of cigarette burn marks. Staff friendly and helpful.

I with my wife spent 03 wonderful nights at Hotel 81 Sakura . Room was very good with air condition, TV, Hair Drier/Mini Refrigerator/Dressing Table and the staff was very helpful. Gents and ladies at the reception was very kind and helpful. Bed Sheets were changed on daily basis and the room was kept very tidy by the Hotel Management. Room charges are comparatively low but the services are high and satisfactory.

Nice and clean rooms. Sometimes its noisy due to the pubs around. Its ok for bachelors. Avoid when going with kids.

The price is ok, one of the lowest rates in expensive Singapore. Neighbourhood is also good. Many small shops and restaurants, small street, laundrys and other service shops.
MRT is min. 15 minutes away by foot (many slow traffic lights).
Biggest issue of the narrow and windowless rooms: the A/C can't be really turned off, the temperature inside is fixed to 17 ° C, so you need a pullover to sleep in the thin sheets and you are freezing all time while staying in, while outside its 32°C. Consequently everyone has a cold. Glasses and camera lenses steam up heavily when brought out of building.
Also poorly soundproofed, you hear every noise from reception and TV, will need earplugs to sleep.
Staff is friendly and helpful.
Conclusion:
Choose another hotel, the savings are not worth the disaster.

I don´t think price/quality was good. You could hear everything in your room from outside the room. The bed was uncomfortable, I had bruises because of it. The room wasn´t that clean. It was pretty far from the city and the hotel was located in a red light district.
But despite all of that, the personnel was great. They helped us with all of our questions and we had a good time with them. Because of them we had a good time in our hotel.

Rooms are functional and nice but some staffs at the reception are very touchy and can makes things very personal!! Beware of offending them or they'll make sure that your stay is living hell!

The hotel was not at all to an ethical or hygienic standard.
The first room we checked into reeked of smoke (despite being a non smoking hotel).
We then requested a second room that heavily odoured of smelly feet and there were blood stains on the sheets. We had only booked online within minutes of arriving, and we left hotel 81 within thirty minutes of checking in (for a far superior nearby hotel) and we were not fully refunded despite the sub-satisfying hygiene and safety standards. Happy to cut our losses given the poor (dare I say unethically low) standard.
Avoid hotel 81 at all costs.
The staff however were very good and worth commending for their efforts as they were friendly and highly accommodating to our (attempted) requests for hygienic rooms but they were unfortuntely bound within the limits of hotel 81's unethically low standards and poor refund policies.

This hotel is in a good location for access to bus transportation and bar nightlife while maintaining your budget, the friendly front staff will happily greet you and assist with suggestions on local points of interest.

15min walk from the nearest station. room was what you would normally expect for a 2 star hotel. found a cigarette butt on the floor while checking into the non smoking room. would not recommend it
