Looks pretty much the same but En has undergone a total revamp in dinning concept. Its called the Yonpachi Gyojo now, with a Japanese seafood market theme. The menu is not as extensive as before but the new dishes looks interesting. Good thing is that they still serve the popular shabu shabu.

Great variety. Quality is decent. Slightly pricey tho so would come here for special occasions.

I wont write this review in a typical format, instead I will write it as a story and let you decide if my rating is apt.

I used to frequent En's Crown Centre outlet fairly often, almost every major event that a medium to high class buffet could cater to would be at En. That's why I was rather surprised that the outlet had closed down and instead the owner chose to focus on Alocassia's outlet instead.

When I arrived at the Dining Bar, I was listening to music on my phone, sat down took out my earpieces and left them on the table. My friend was leaving to study in Canada so I decided to take him out to a meal at the place where, both of us being Japanese food junkies, could indulge. The first thing I noticed when I looked at the menu was that the menu looked a lot smaller than I had remembered, the second thing I noticed was that the Dining Bar was a lot emptier than it used to be. I remembered that at the Crown Center outlet, even for weekdays, it would be bustling and you might not even be able to make a booking if you were to place it on the same day. However, it had just one other group of diners apart from my friend and I.

When I looked at the menu, two of my favorite dishes had been removed from the standard buffet menu, firstly the beef carpaccio and the WAFU steak. At this point my heart sank, just a little, but it was enough to sour the mood. The food was of a standard lower than Crown Center's however this review has already gotten slightly wordy so I shan't go into further detail. There used to be a fair few beef dishes, however they were mostly replaced by chicken and pork yakitori, another disappointment. The food was served at an expected pace ( I mean there are only two groups, how slow could you serve?), but when it came to the shabu-shabu the waiter came with a plate loaded with vegetables, possibly enough to solve global constipation, to which I declined. However the meat servings for the shabu-shabu, were at least ONE FIFTH, the serving size they used to be. At this point I had realized why the outlet was so empty.

You might say that it's a buffet, serving size does not matter, however when I asked for 4 more servings, not only did the waitress only come with one but the time period in between servings took so long I thought I could have great-grand children by the time the serving arrived.

I would like to say that the one redeeming factor was the service, but god help me it was not. Remember at the start of the review I had said that I was listening to music as I sat down and placed my earpieces on the table? As I payed for the bill and prepared to leave, I noticed that my earpieces were missing. I had not left my seat since I had arrived at the restaurant. Had a magical gremlin whisked it away to listen to "Hedwig's theme"? This was the cherry on the Hot fudge sundae of disappointment. I looked around but my ear pieces were nowhere to be found. You might blame me for losing my earpieces, I admit, yes it was my fault. However this is a review of "En Japanese Dining Bar #01-01 Alocassia Apartments," not my actions. So let me ask you this, how many restaurants that you have paid $134 for a 2 person meal, or even a hawker center or kopitiam for that matter, would you expect someone to steal an item of value if you had left it on the table you were sitting at?

Overall I rate "1/5 stars" how I feel? I hated it. Perhaps this was from my expectations from previous visits to en, but honestly such poor service, management, and a restaurant that uses such stingy tactics such as delaying the time in between servings for a À la carte buffet would only be befitting of a the lowest grade.

Decent buffet for $48 on week nights. They do employ a pretty sneaky tactic of serving you large potions of cheap stuff (don't bother ordering the meatballs) and tiny portions of the good stuff (beef wafu, wagyu beef shabu shabu). The sashimi was a disappointment.

And, damn do they take their time to serve the more expensive dishes. The shabu beef was served in trays of 4 pieces at a time, even though there was 5 of us. We had to keep asking for it repeatedly. Generally good food, but these tactics are just poor form.

This place has become disappointing. I used to enjoy the food at En and was looking forward to a great meal. Today's sushi was tasteless as was the sashimi. A thoroughly disappointing experience.
