Old-skool place to buy books (huge Popular bookstore), stationery and art materials. Many shops doing digital printing as well. 4-star as doesn't really have much else, and is limited in F&B, so not exactly a general shopping destination.

Good place to search for Second Hand books. There is a book shop called POPULAR Book shop which sells New Books for children & Adults in mostly all areas of interest. Other shops sell arts & craft and musical instruments.

There is a large "Popular" bookstore which sells new English and Chinese books. "Art Friend" is another big shop, it sells supplies for arts and craft. Other smaller stores sell books, sports equipment, portable signage, stationery, watches and very large clocks. There are also food outlets on the ground floor if you are hungry or need a cup of coffee.

In Chinese, this place is also know as "书城" which means "city of books". Yes, this place has many books and stationery shops. If you like to read Chinese books, there are also a few bookshops dedicated to selling Chinese books, imported from Taiwan and mainland China.

One of the last bastions of 2nd hand book stores in Singapore. Do your really need to latest edition of that textbook? Publishers would say yes, their holiday home and Ferrari depends on you.
Do your hard-earned money a favour and buy used.

Great old school place with lots of art supplies and music shops. Short walk to the beautiful national library... There's also a nice Jack's place for comfortable settings and affordable steaks.

An aged book complex. You may still find some rare Chinese publication here such as book related to special interests 气功,书画艺术etc. However, you could find those much easier on the internet now a day. There are still many pen and spectacle shops there with good optometrist and good services. Price is lower than the modern shopping mall. Worth to give them a try.

My go to place for art materials since secondary school days(20ys ago.!)... Till today still try to pop by when i can for art materials. The Popular Bookstore is also the biggest, lots of choices n not forgetting the scent of books plus CDs which is getting hard to come by.. Students who are looking for study materials like worksheets to practice can also go to Bras Basah.. Only thing should give this building more revamps, places for students to sit n do their works n easily get materials in case anytime short of..

A good place to find all sorts of books and art supplies. My favourite store here is 'Cat Socrates', where you can find cat-themed merchandise and of course, Chestnut the cat!

Always a place of nostalgia in the midst of the ever-changing cityscape of downtown Singapore. The one-stop go-to place if you are looking for stationery and art supplies, thrown in with a mix of shops selling a range of musical instruments, Chinese cultural paraphernalia, new and second-hand books, and even art galleries. Worthy of an afternoon discovery romp...

This a local shopping centre in the area. There are a couple of eateries on the ground floor. It used to be known for Chinese bookstores but now has a selection of different stores. There are also several stores that sell designer items and art and craft supply stores. These are my favourite places here and their selection is huge and not expensive. Like most places it does not open until late morning so don't go their before 10:00am.
