It was very famous for its chicken rice.. u can choose if u want to buy for 1 or 2 persons.. ita about $10 for 2 persons (exclude the rice) when we came here, they also gave a sample of pork skin..( i think maybe it was ears or tounge not skin though). The food was good. Chicken very tender. U can spend around $50 for 3 persons here.
U have to take a bus to get here.
The place was good. They have baby chairs.

Best chicken rice is town. 2 storey of restaurant can serve a lot of pax. Most of the dinner time is crowded even though it is not weekend.

Definitely has to try chicken rice and the chicken. You can try the prawn, each is 100gr prawn.

From a very hot and slippery shop to the modern, clean and organised restuarant. This is still to me the best Boon Tong Kee restaurant. Food quality is better than the rest. Recommended. Enjoy!

Even at midnight, there’re many customers! I was one of them but the food quality is perfect all the time!
Not apply only to this timing, even though I visited afternoon, evening time it was delicious!:)
I also can recommend to tourist;)!

Kinda expensive. But always a safe bet. Prawn toast was excellent.

Service was rude, staff were slow (the restaurant was quiet but struggled to get their attention to order food, reorder drinks, ask for the bill etc). When the food finally came it the chicken was stone cold and dry. Terrible experience all round.

One and only place I'll have steam chicken here in Singapore. The food quality is superb and the steam chicken here do not have the unlovely chicken taste I afraid of.
Strongly recommended for tourist and those who same as me do not like steam chicken rice. Haha

Service is slow. The sitting and ordering is quick, but the serving is very slow. Waited for 20min for the first dish, then after finishing it, waited for another 20min for the second dish. Dessert waited for another 20min even after asking the staff about it. I walked over wanting to cancel the dish and foot the bill without having the dessert but this time, the dessert is served and cannot be cancelled? What kind of logic. Will not come back to this branch again.

I used to live around Balestier Road and had Boon Tong Kee chicken rice growing up. I've witnessed it growing from a small chicken stall (sharing space with a motorcycle repair shop) to a big chain of today. Well, I think it's fair to say that their standards have barely dropped unlike many big chains where they have forsaken quality in favour of expansion. For this alone, it deserves my utmost respect. It still has in my opinion, the most fragrant chicken rice in Singapore.

The chicken and rice is very good and the sweet and sour pork was the best I had. The char siew was ok. Not the best. The staff doesn't speak English very well. They speak only Chinese.

Decent chicken rice in a slightly upscale environment. It has a zi char menu to complement it's mainstay food.

hillary kwan (30/10/2017 17:03)
Staff are helpful & friendly. But its a very noisy place for diners who like a serene ambience to dine in.

Wei Yuet WONG (14/10/2017 16:04)
What we call “zi char” 煮炒 style food in Singapore. Most of the dishes are not bad, but I believe their signature dish is the Hainanese chicken rice. I enjoyed the cereal prawns, and the pork buns.

Classic chicken rice. If you want something that won't disappoint, Boon Tong Kee is the place to go. The spinach with eggs was beautifully cooked and rich in flavour and the deep fried tofu was done just right. It's hard to find fried tofu that make you go for second but this one does. All in all, a very easy decision for a good meal.

Maurice Low (16/09/2017 12:51)
Order was taken by an elderly woman who seem to be in a bad mood. We have 5 adults n wanted while chicken but she kept saying half. In the end, we need to order another half. Wanted to order century egg but she said out of stock but in another egg dish, there's century egg...haizzz. Their specialty chicken is quite ordinary to be frank as many hawkers centres have better hainanese chicken rice.

Gregory Goh (01/09/2017 14:09)
Famous Hananese Chicken Rice restaurent, but the chicken not so well done recently. Chicken rice is fragrance. Other dishes not bad too. Can try the pork livers.

Stephanie Chin (19/08/2017 08:41)
If you're looking for chicken rice in Singapore, you must visit Boon Tong Kee. Tender steamed chicken and tasty rice. It is so well cooked and delicious I will definitely go back for more.

Andrew Richardson (16/08/2017 05:08)
Good service, and flavoursome food. The chicken and rice is renowned. Can not recommend this enough for an authentic Singaporean food fest. Service is good and prices are extremely reasonable

Irina Wong (15/08/2017 11:33)
Great food. Service however, need to improve upon. It's a busy outlet as the crowds come in every now and then. Fried toufu is a great dish to order.

Wayne Fong (08/07/2017 12:39)
Foods is good but service is dishonest. Told them the bill over-charged and require to amend. But they still key-in the same amount when I gave them my credit card. Luckily I check the bill and demand them to cancel and amend the bill. Please double check your bills before making any payment.

Granted, they have became a tad commercialised but they have retained their high standards. I grew up eating Boon Tong Kee in my secondary school days and witnessed how it shared space with a small motorcycle shop and to become the chicken rice powerhouse of today.

Their rice is probably the best in Singapore: flavourful and good texture, chili packs a punch. Everything's good except the queues. Avoid peak hours for less queuing time.

Cynthia Andriana (19/06/2017 13:01)
One of the best chicken rice in singapore. Service was quite fast and so far the quality is consistently good over the past decade. The stuffed tofu is delicious as well.

Jessie Tang (06/06/2017 14:25)
I feel that the service and servings lacks consistency. Wanted to order a whole chicken but was advise to get half chicken. But aft half a chicken we decided its not enough so we ordered another half. and the first half and second half had different amounts of condiments and cucumbers. plus they served those who came after us first which I was surprised.

Wong KC (19/04/2017 13:29)
Reasonable considering the service and aircond compared to next door Balestier market

Sherman Leong (17/04/2017 15:00)
Still same as old time. You will get one of the best hananese chicken rice.

Biing W Yin (02/04/2017 09:47)
Clean premise thus the stars.. edible food thus the stars. Being one of spore best chic rice?? Questionable. But if it is then msia wins hands down... Being bias maybe but again taste buds differ.

Rice is fluffy + point.. fragrant?? Ok la... Taste was ginger n garlic. With a hint of chicken stock (cube i reckoned as i have the after msg taste).

Chicken was executed well as each bite was consistent and the thickness is fair. But the soy sauce accomplice if the fish was lacking something.. i cant tell. Maybe it's ginger or garlic or shallot oil.. it will make it better

Ok to my standards.

They have other dishes as well.. maybe too much concerntration on other dishes affected their true calling..

Justin Toh (16/03/2017 06:47)
My favourite place for chicken rice. Sweet and sour pork is great too

Ken Leong (19/02/2017 18:20)
Way too expensive for the quality of the food. Disappointed with the price, food and service. Never going back.

Michael Hunter (06/02/2017 07:33)
They say it is the best chicken rice in Singapore. It may well be. The staff is very friendly. They have probably been working in this shop for decades. I had chicken rice, and asked for a veggie, too. They suggested some sautéed bean sprouts. The best sprouts I have ever had. And I usually go for the roasted chicken rice, but here, that is only available by the whole bird, so I got the boiled chicken. It was absolutely wonderful.

Pierre CAZENAVE (01/02/2017 14:09)
Went there to try their famous claypot rice... 80% rice, 15% chicken bones, 3% chicken, 2% chinese sausage... For the fish slices, I am still searching... If you like to pay 20$ for plain rice, this is the place! (Hint: there is a mcdonalds accross the street to finish ur meal!!!)

Been here every time when I come to Singapore! Worth the try! Good taste Local Hainam Chicken Rice!

Darryl Tai (01/01/2017 10:46)
My all time favourite chicken rice. Has been patronizing them long way back when they were just a single unit, and serve $2 chicken rice. Their chilli and rice are the perfect combo.

Joe Yang (07/10/2016 15:54)
Not all of its outlets serve nice food. The standard may differ. The Balestier one being one of the best and my favorite. The chicken is tender and the ricr is fragrant. I also specifically like their chee cheong fun.

avivcjs1 (14/09/2016 15:45)
Just tasty, resonable price, nice portion to order for several people,

Sherlee Choliluddin (09/08/2016 09:03)
All time favourite! They make tender steamed chicken, even the chicken breast is tender. Rice is fragrant and fluffy. But the price is higher than usual. If you dine in, I'd recommend having also the crispy tofu.

Started out with chicken rice but added other dishes as welll. Good food but a bit pricey. Average service. It has other branches in other parts of Singapore, like River Valley.

Felix Liu (08/05/2016 02:40)
The liver and chye sim was very good. But very pricey

stefanus indra (24/02/2016 04:04)
Received a bad service from one of the employee (asked to change table because the air con was to direct, she refused, but another employee gave us another table). The foods were great, the chicken was juicy and tasteful. If you want to try, come before the eating hours (or after)

Hinson Ng (21/01/2016 16:35)
BTK standards have been falling for years with sloppy presentation of chicken, mediocre taste and worst of all at this Balestier location: BAD SERVICE ! Come here if you enjoy being abused and ignored. The mainland waitresses look like they want to kill you, and often they act like you don't exist. River Valley location has much better service, though food standards have also been declining for years...
