Never been so disappointed in my embassy as I have been in Singapore! They have outsourced nearly everything to a third party called VFS here, and even when you do want a passport renewal at the high commission the wait time is 2-3 weeks! We also had a newborn after being in the country for 5 months and can’t even get her registered in Singapore as an Australian Citizen through the High Commission we have to go through the third party VFS! How awful and what a terrible experience I have had to leave my newborn at home 3 times now as VFS havent known the correct documents as a child under 12 months can’t be witnessed by the usual checklist and it is not clear on the website. Very unempathic staff at the HC. My Husband is French we got all her citizenship details in under 1 hour and her passport registered to be delivered in 10 days! Do not have a child here if you can help it if you have been here under 12 months it was a traumatic experience to get citizenship by descent and a passport. Why they don’t ask for the live birth registry original document here like other embassies to make the process easier is not clear. The high commission seems understaffed and VFS have only been active since Nov 2017 so still have not be trained correctly...

If you come from a third world country, you will think that Australia is your dream country. If you come from the first world country, you will wonder how did Australia get its first world country status. Getting a visa takes 17 -29 days? They ask for a zillion and one documents and it is not possible to contact any staff for clarification as they do not reply emails. When you call them, they will ask you to write an email. When there is no reply, it is just your bad luck. This explains why Australia isnt very successful in doing business overseas. They are too slow, too individualistic and sorry to say, too lazy.

Absolutely useless. Perhaps if they spent less money on wasted air conditioned space permeated with the sounds of Australian insect life, they'd be enough staff to offer a passport collection window greater than a meager two hours in a Friday.
Reaffirmed my long held disgust with Australian bureaucracy.

I've been ringing for 2 hours. Website says its open, recorded message keeps saying it's shut. Phoning from abroad and nearly out of credit.

I had called them twice and handled by two different people. But the 2nd one really pissed me off.
I called and explained to her my situation to her to ask her for advice with regards to the letter I got from AU govt. She told me that there is nothing they can do about this. And then i told her that the VFS team told me that I should look for high comms as they would have the answers and now she's telling me high comms has no answers and asks me to email them.
I told her that I have already emailed but did not get no answers. Then she was like if you didn't get the service that you deserve just go ahead and resend an email and mark with with urgent. Mind you I have only 28 days to get the relevant med exams done and have wasted the past week waiting for and answer on my email.
I told her we spent alot of money just for that visa, can't you just be of some help, and then she started being really really rude and I literally had to ask her to watch her attitude. Then she said she can't do this and hung up on me.
What kind of service is this?!

Been only to two embassies during my time in Singapore - Philippines Embassy and the Australian High Commission and I could say the experience between the two offices are quite distinctive, with the latter giving me a great experience.
The Australian High Commission has nice and orderly process in place where prior to entering the premises, one is required to have his belongings inspected, gadgets deposited.
Once inside, there are people who will direct you to where office you should go and there's a nice sign indicating all the processes one must follow depending on which transaction you're there for making the whole experience really organized.
