I personally didn't go to Mount Agung as the trek is closed because it is predicted to be erupted in near future.
I saw the view of the great Mount Agung from an inactive volcanic mountain Mount Batur. And I tell you view was breathtaking.

I climbed Mt. Agung on 1st August, 2017 with one of my buddies. We chose not to hire a guide and attempt it ourselves. The local guides didn’t take this decision too well. I understand that it’s their livelihood, however, it’s also not right to be “forced” to hire a guide. We used the route from Pura Pasar Agung. It is a tough hike. So beginners please be careful. The final part near the summit is particularly difficult because of the exposed rock faces (need to use hands), in addition to the strong winds. It can get quite cold up there so bring more layers. Having the correct clothing is critical. Normally, it’s already cold up there. When it rains, it’s freezing. A headlamp is indispensable because it frees up your hands; you’d definitely need to use your hands sometimes. Otherwise, reaching the top is really satisfying and be thankful for it. It is a difficult hike, and after thinking about it, unless you know what you are doing, it’s still better to think about hiring a guide. Two months ago there was no volcanic activity and I’m grateful to be able to experience Mt. Agung. Take care everyone!

We went to Mount Agung for white water rafting. The experience wasn't that good because most of the time the guide of the raft controls the raft and you don't get to control it often. Even the ride was not that bumpy. At the time we went there, warnings have been given to stay away from the volcano. All in all it was a nice experience. Balinese people are always nice and treat you well.

Quiet an experience for me as a first time visiting Volcanic Area. Although it's active as we see smoke coming out of it all time but yet friendly, as found out from localities, no serious damage to life or property.
As well 7 kms apart at the Hot Springs along the Lake is just superb.
. Indeed it's worth a visit once you are on Bali Island . It's a full day relaxed trip.

The view of the volcano is splendid. This place is a nice combination of green and high landscape. Near the volcano, there are luxurious open air restaurants, with amazing views of the volcano. The food and beverages at the restaurants are extremely tasty. Despite this there is a nominal entry fee to the main view point, which isn't expensive at all for visiting tourist. In addition to that, Mount Agung has recently erupted, so you must need to check the inquiry before visiting. Overall, Mount Agung is a very spectacular place to visit, and I recommend this destination to all tourist in Bali.

We've been here last week. Great place with beautiful view. But now Mount Agung is experiencing unprecedented levels of seismic activity and could erupt in a “matter of hours”, Indonesia’s volcanology centre has confirmed.

Almost 60,000 people have been evacuated in the last few days as Agung, the highest point of the island, has experienced hundreds of internal volcanic earthquakes. Some boats to the popular Gili islands are being cancelled due to tremors causing big waves. (September 2017)

Latest update: - -------- (27 Nov 2017)
Indonesian authorities have raised the alert to the highest level for the Mount Agung volcano and have ordered people within 10 kilometers to leave the area immediately. As a consequence many flights have now been disrupted or cancelled. The recent activity began with a small scale eruption on 21 November building to an ash emitting eruption on 25 November.

If you are traveling to Bali:

I would advice to contact your airline for flight schedule or travel plan before travel to the airport. Also contact your insurance for what will they cover and what will not.

If You Are Currently In Bali:

A. Remain well outside the existing exclusion zone which currently extends up to 7.5 kms from the crater.
B. Most important is to contact your insurance company and abide by their directives . If you do not do this firstly then your claim will be null and void.
C. If your flight is cancelled, There is no reason to wait at the airport. Contact your travel insurance and see if you are covered for hotel costs.Keep an eye on the airline's website for updates.
D. Maintain contact with family and friends, providing them with regular updates about your welfare and location.
E. Monitor media and other sources of information.

====What to do to stay safe (from BNPB):===

===During an eruption:===
1. Avoid any places that are recommended by the authorities to be evacuated. Avoid river valleys and low-lying areas.
2. Avoid any open spaces and protect yourself from volcanic ash.
3. Use goggles and wear eyeglasses instead of contact lenses.
Use a dust mask or hold a damp cloth over your mouth and nose to help with breathing.
4. Wear sufficient clothes to protect your body, i.e. long-sleeved shirts, long pants, hats, etc.

====After an eruption:===
1. Minimize your exposure to volcanic ash.
2. Avoid running car or truck engines. Driving can stir up volcanic ash that can clog engines, damage moving parts, and stall vehicles.
3. Clear heavy ash from flat or low-pitched roofs and rain gutters. The weight of heavy ash can destroy houses and/or buildings.
4. Be aware of mudflows. The danger of a mudflow increases near stream channels and with prolonged heavy rains.

A very nice place
You have to see the mountain in the morning or evening when the sun begins/stopps to shine.

stay safe, the volcano could erupt in a matter of hours. the eruption can also temporarily cool the global climate, which is sorta good and bad as i see it.

Beautiful!! The picture was taken from my hotel (puri mas) on Lombok approx. 100km away. The photo really does not do justice the this incredible natural wonder!! A must see for all visitors to the area!

We did the hike up the summit via Pasar Agung. It is a challenging hike because it is physical and technical. There are good guides, unfortunately ours wasn't one of them and he made us walk on a more dangerous path to a peek that was not the summit. But the guide aside it is the good experience and the view from our peek was great even though it is better from the real summit. Unlike the Rinjani it is not crowded and the round trip to the summit is done in 6 hours.

Our nocturnal ascent on Mount Agung was literally the highlight of our holiday in Bali. From our bamboo hut near Candidasa we arranged a private guide who picked us up at 1AM to travel to the Besakih Temple, the starting point of the trail to the top. Around 2 am we were at about 1500m altitude at the Besakih Temple ready for the climb. The climb is doable for non-experienced hikers, but you need some level of fitness to complete this challenge. The last 300m are pretty tough, means climbing bare rocks with both hands and feet. The sunrise from the summit at 2800m is an unforgettable moment. What a view! The descent is fortunately easier than the climb. The ascent took us about 4 hours and the descent somewhat over 3 hours.

Very challenging walk from Besakih temple. We decided to do it in 2 legs to see both sunset and sunrise First - 4.5h climb to last base camp at about 2800m, pitched tent at sunset. Second - 45m climb to the summit at 5am, enjoyed the sunrise, beautiful scenery, views to Limbok/Rinjani, and all across Bali.
One thing to note, the temperature drops to single digits, so proper camping gear required should you decide to camp on the mountain.
P.S. I might have too many photos of Agung, but it's 100% worse it. The best thing I did in Bali.
