I still wonder how it is possible to feel at home at a place that's geographically so far from where I was born, but I believe it is all thanks to the warm-hearted people living at Ashram Gandhi. The nourishing food, conversations and yoga sessions made my heart feel light and my mind feel at peace. Having the opportunity to explore Bali during the day and coming back to the loving environment of the Ashram afterwards was the perfect combination for me. My stay was simply perfect, thanks to all of the hosts as well as the guests, and I can't wait to be back :)

I was there Oct, 2016 for about four days. It was my first destination arriving Bali at that time. Initially I debate whether I'd write a review at all because this is a good concept in helping the students in need, but realizing it has been executed poorly.
Upon arriving, there was no reception or even a door to enter. Only with the help of my driver he was able to find people in the back of the building associate with the ashram. Nobody seems to know that I'm arriving today and I have to take the luggage around through stairs along the water lily pond, which were filled with puddles of water after rains. The owner/admin was not there to be been the whole time I stayed there.
The hut I was assigned to is the last one in the row, which is closest to the water lily pond. In theory it seems good, but in fact it's only a few feet away from the local fishermen's shacks just beyond the fence. Their noises in the night were clearly heard in my room, which has one small fan on top of a shelf. The place is not very clean. It has many openings that it's almost guarantee you'll have mosquitos in the room. One of my bag even got eaten open a big hole, likely by rats coming from outside.
Last thing I want to mention is the food. Once I got there I started having bowel issues. First I contributed to travel, but it has been months passed now and bowel problem has persisted. Think back, I seriously think food sanitation there might be a serious problem. While it's nice to have meals prepared, they were just ok and often left-over dishes from previous meals. I never saw how they prepare the foods. Now I'm considering to take on remedies to deal with the potential parasites in my guts causing bowel issues, which I did not have prior to Indonesia.
The people there are all quite friendly, but as a traveler, I think I wouldn't stay there from the hindsight given what I know now. Of course by all means if you want to help the students and the ashram, but I'd rather not mess with my own health for this.
