I worked with Sam doing a surf survival course. I was feeling unconfident in bigger waves and very anxious about long hold downs. Sam was very informative and helpful when it came to teaching me the physiological aspects of free diving and breathe techniques that will transfer well to surfing. I had breath holds way longer than I thought I ever could and I learned a lot of techniques I will continue to practice.
Highly recommended

Fathom Freediving is a great school to learn free diving from. I was fortunate to be the only student, so the program was really fluid, just the way I like it. I took the 2 day free diving course and even though I had difficulty equalising, my instructor was very patient and encouraging. Managed to get to ten meters in the end. What is liked most was that you get a personal photoshoot at the end of the course, which is very unique and not something any other freediving school in Amed offered.
Amed, as a destination, is beautiful. Very peaceful and tranquil. Nothing like Kuta or down south where it's busy and crowded. Accomodation is basic but comfortable there, though you can find accomodation with aircon and Wifi. While the corals at the bay wasn't the best i've seen, marine life was still good with plenty of fish swimming around.
If you want to learn free diving, Fathom Freedive is the place.

The experience was really nice. I achieved to reach 20m the second day (and apparently I could even have been deeper !). Great instructor, very precise physics and physiological explanations on what's going on when you freedive ! I was not really interested in going deep before the course, but now I feel confident enough to push a little bit more my limits. I definitely recommend freediving with Fathom freediving in Amed

Always wanted to try freediving and Fathom Freediving gave me a good impression on it.
Did a two days level 1 course with three sessions in the water. Price included theory, lunch, and really nice photos. They gave also a recommendation for a nice accommodation.
The instructor was super experienced, theory was well prepared and presented. Always felt secure during the water time - and when problems came up he was super patient.
Would always come back to do next level.
Thanks for your time, Fathom.

I completed three of Fathom Freediving's courses and wish I had stayed for more! Ahmed is such a lovely place to freedive and the instructor at Fathom is incredibly knowledgeable and patient. I found him very accommodating, often tailoring courses/days to suit my ability and comfort levels. I always felt very safe during my dives which allowed me to push my limits and surpass my goals. Would easily recommend Fathom in a second to anyone looking to start learning about freediving or gain more experience. Look forward to coming back some day to do more freediving!

Fathom Freediving is just amazing!!!!! My instructor was really clear about the theory in the classroom, made it simple and in focus. In the sea I couldn`t have asked for more patience. He was passionate and understanding, and he walked me through every second of the fantastic experience, and I can tell for sure that I`ll end it up being able to achieve more than I thought because of him. I`ll definitely go back!!!

An Absolutely Amazing Experience xXx
I took my level 3 course here and all I can say is how glad I am that I found Fathom. From the beginning my instructor made me feel at home, picking me up, helping me with all my heavy bags and recommending a really beautiful place to stay. The location is incredible, surrounded by the ocean, mountains, Tulamben wreck and stunning sunsets. My instructor is a great guy and taught me so much throughout the course. He had all the equipment I needed, was always very patient and encouraging, and great fun to chat with as well as professional. Learning to freedive here is not to be missed with a teacher I would recommend to everyone!

Very passionate and professional instructor. I'm a medical student. He adjusted his explanation of the theoretical part and gave it a more scientific twist which made it very exiting. Safety is in focus during the entire course. I did my course together with another student. Although we had different skill levels, he was able to balance this in such a way that both felt well taken care of, were able to reach our goals and felt safe the entire time.

I've never learnt so much about my body it's ability and the science and skills behind becoming a master Freediver in such a small space of time! Fathom Freediving always gave me the time of day to listen to my questions and was always exceptionally knowledgeable about everything! The private lesson with my instructor was invaluable. They never rushed me and went out of their way to make sure I understood certain techniques I was unclear about. Not only did I accomplish depths and breath holds I didn't think were personally possible, I've come away knowing I can go deeper and will hold my breath for longer now I've gained these skills through Fathom school. Thank you for your time, encouragement, motivation and patience!

I spend a lot of time in the ocean surfing, diving, etc., but I progressed and gained a lot of confidence in just 2 days with Fathom Freedive. Their staff was professional, enthusiastic, personable, and knowledgeable. I was able to increase my breath holds dramatically and dove deeper than I expected without any issues. Plus, I got to take home some great photographs thanks to their professional photography!
I would highly recommend taking a course or training with the Fathom team, I can't wait for my next chance to get to Amed for another round.

My instructor was patient and he had his own wisdom of the ocean / freediving. I will never forget the freediving philosophy he taught. It's very nice to have a personal trainer who can fill you time at your pace.

I took the PADI freediver course here. Very personalized training going at your pace. Really helped me to master the basics. Sam was able to break down the different aspects of freediving into simple easy to practice portions and then from there combine them into the full experience. A really great experience.

have done some of freedive trip before my course, and actually I thought what I did was safe but actually not, it.was like exhale underwater, not remove the snorkel, etc. after join the course and got many explanation, I realize that freedive is not just about fun but also safety..
What I really got benefit from my instructor is recovery breath technique, rescue technique, breath up, lung streching, and so on..
Before I took the course my static PB is 2 minute, but after course and training my PB is 4 minute. My depth PB before is 16m, after course my PB is 25m with deep hang. What a wonderful view down there..
Thanks Sam!

I had been doing spearfishing and freediving for quite a while before I took the course. It was nonetheless a game changing. Each immersion is never the same after the course.
I took the level 1 course. It really emphasizes on how to achieve maximal relaxation and optimize my breathing techniques. A lot of simple and practical tips to be practiced at home and to instantly help me hold my breath longer. I was only able to hold my breath for around 1 and a half minutes and after the course my max is 3.03 mins. Yes, it has doubled just by practicing the proper breathing techniques.
I always have this little problem with my sinuses. It hurts so bad whenever I do scuba or freediving. When we're on the water, my instructor kept reminding me that the main goal was more to discover mental and body relaxation than merely how deep I could go. It's kinda like being coached for meditation, really. Which was super cool because at the end of the day I found myself holding to the rope at 20 m depth.
The fun diving part after the course was super fun I didn't wanna stop. We did it on Amed beach, the weather was lovely, the corals, fishes were just so vibrant and alive. My instructor brought a good underwater camera with him, taking lots of great pictures of us.
I am definitely interested to take another trips with them, or spearfishing course if available. Thanks guys!

I got a great first touch to freediving with Fathom. I did a nice quick visit from east java to amed and had two nice days in the water. Fathom teaching was relaxing but informative and water sessions were superb. He got whole lot of patient to teach me as I was struggling with equalization . I'd recommend them for anyone interested in the courses :)

I booked a last minute trip from Australia to Bali to complete my level 2 and 3 courses. Over 7 days working in a small class with only one other student I was able to break 36m. Later in the week when I was doing my level 3 it was just solo with my instructor. I really didn't expect to be so lucky. Not only did Fathom help my improve my overall time under water but also smash some targets i never thought of possible. On our last day of level 2 we did statics, I was able to break my old record by 20 seconds with coming up at 4:20. Then on our last day of level 3 we returned to statics, I was able to do 5:40. I have to thank my instructor for providing the right temperament and instruction to allow such large gains in performance.
My only words of advice is if you want to focus on depth do not book levels 2 and 3 back to back. I found that on day 5 I was struggling with fatigue, still breaking PBs but really had to make sure I kept a strict routine of dive, eat, sleep, repeat.
If you want a personal experience in a great location dive with Fathom.
