You will have really nice tour if you visit this temple. The biggest temple in Bali! Dont come at the weekend or while hindu's day, because it will be very crowded. But this is the must place to visit in Bali. I love the culture its really worth to come here! ♡♡ Love it

hendra yaputra (24/05/2018 05:28)
The biggest and beautiful temple.
From here you can see Agung Mount.
Spend more time here, so you can explore every inch of the temple.
Ask local people to guide you.

It's a beautiful temple and an amazing view from the top most point. Its a photographer's paradise. We were even lucky to touch the agung lava ashes fallen here. The place must have been once really crowded but it was very deserted in dec 2017 due to volcano eruption. Tourism has been hit badly and local people really seem to struggle to make their living. Recommend this place as a must visit!

TRUE PARADISE. Just like every other temple and monuments in Bali, Indonesia this is not lacking behind. It's one of the greatest most admirable temples in the world with would attract you. Peaceful and calm place with great views across the temple. Very scenic and photogenic.
It demands more appreciation but I'm speechless.

Note: my visit was around 2 years ago. I am local.

I had a bad experience at this temple. It's seems that all the people here are trying to scam you. From the first time I stepped out of car, a lot of merchants tried to sell me sarong. They told me we have to use sarong to enter, even tough I dress appropriately for a temple visit (long pants, polo shirt, and shoes). Then, I bought the entrance ticket. I was forced to use tour guide service and have to pay 250 thousand rupiah if I am not mistaken. The guide itslef is not knowledgeable. He then teach us to "pray" in Hindu way and ask me to give more money for donation to God and the temple. I gave only 20 thousand but he asked for more.

The temple itself is beautiful.

Such a bad experience. It was happened to me who is a local. I am sure it was worse for foreigner. Avoid this temple if possible. Not only the location is remote and far from other tourist area, it will possibly leave you a bad impression of Bali.

Went there when its a ceremony so there was a lot of beautiful ornaments and I love it. I met a truly helpful local guide whom share a lot of things and told lots stories. He took me and my friend to the Gelap Temple which located in the top and we talked about Bali and its own magical spiritual history there. What an amazing experience. Thanks, Bli.

Large area, biggest temple and beautiful view.
This place is great, but not for the local fake guide here,
who money oriented and always try
for take much money from tourist with
aggressive way.
Need big attention from management or government who responsibility with this place.

Bharat Singhvi (11/03/2018 12:12)
Visited the temple between 6 to 7:30 PM, just after it had rained for a while. What a beauty! Pristine nature, beautiful structures - felt like a walk in the heaven. Must visit.

As mentioned in other reviews, there is no paper ticket provided after charging for tourist entry fee (IDR 60k), a guide is imposed on you and toilets are expensive. Really nothing of that matters.

Grey Box (02/02/2018 16:18)
One of the most beautiful places in Bali. And the worst local people. Really mafia. Absolutely unfriendly even when you're very polite and smile them. Have to take "guide" or have problems. "Give him tip up to you". Yeah. "50k is not enough, give me 100k!" Yep yep, for 10 minutes "excursion". We wanted to stop our trip and back to hotel. I hope Indonesian government will change it.

Indera Gunawan (13/12/2017 04:41)
Almost everyone knows that Bali is famous for its temples. Besakih Temple is the biggest temple in Bali.
Here I am not going to comment on the greatness of this temple or the surrounding natural beauty. But I just want to remind you all when you will visit this temple. After paying the entrance fee, you simply give a modest only for additional fee of guide, even though you are told how much the minimum number others gave before.

Wahyu Nahdianto (14/10/2017 15:19)
Great temple. But you are not allowed to bare your feet, you have to use a footcloth.

Aspiring traveller (01/10/2017 14:52)
The place is one of the major tourist attractions in bali. Lots of tourists visit the temple in the season. Beautiful and natural place in its own type, tourists can take marvelous pictures here.

Rui Fa Lin (18/09/2017 01:16)
Pura Besakih Agung comprise of many temples within a complex of pura. Higgly recommended. It sits on a flat ground elevated high on the mountains of Gunung Agung with the peak as its sight. It is on sacred ground where like many other temples in Bali, have many Balinese believers follow elaborate prayer rituals.

Sohamjit Das (17/09/2017 11:43)
It is the most important, the largest and holiest temple of Hindu religion in Bali, and one of a series of Balinese temples. Very good view around the temple and from the top of the slope. Also you can find some cooked pork sticks in this place if you are hungry.

Juniarto Prawira (14/09/2017 02:25)
great place, the big temple in Bali, nice view, but a lot of the mafia (child & adult) was fauled by asking for money in various ways

YogichiyVlogs (13/09/2017 01:47)
Pura Besakih is a temple complex in the village of Besakih on the slopes of Mount Agung in eastern Bali, Indonesia. It is the most important, the largest and holiest temple of Hindu religion in Bali, and one of a series of Balinese temples. ~wikipedia~

Besakih temple has very beautiful view from above.. The architecture is very historic, showing about how's God have the much powerful in this world..

Benoît benito (19/07/2017 15:11)
One of the most important and big temple in bali.
Guide are not too friendly.
It is better to just make the "free" tour because u can't go inside the big area after the stairs..
Guide stay 10mn with me.. after that he just let me alone.
The second temple on the top is pretty nice.. and u do not need a guide.
U can buy some eggs painted. Very nice

Camilla Salomonsen (07/07/2017 08:13)
Had a very unpleasant "guide" showing us around the temple. When we went top the top of the temple he more or less forced us to participate in a ceremony/prayer. Afterwards he told us that we had to make donation of 100000 rp per person. We were told nothing of this and felt pressured by him to make a donation. We gave all we had on us, and then he became very angry and unpleasant when we didn't tip him, even when we told that we gave all we had as a donation. If you visit this temple, DO NOT PAY FOR A GUIDE. They are nothing more than charlatans trying to cheat you from your money. And besides; doesn't actually have anything interesting to tell you about the place.

Aldwin NI (06/07/2017 15:06)
Biggest temple in Bali? Supposed to be a prayer's temple but ruined by the management and the locals scamming tourists. Ain't worth it considering the far distance and bad facilities.

Precaution, they will urge you to buy/rent something unnecessary, such as they will say you have to bring their 'sesajen' when you actually dont need to, for a price ofc.

While inside, beware of children selling you some postcard, in my opinion they were trained to talk & make you feel pity for them and buy their postcards, repetitively.

All you need is to pay the parking fee, entrance ticket, and you get a free 'drapery' from the management. Tour guide is optional i guess..

Erika Ananda (02/07/2017 03:54)
for me, besakih is the most beautiful temple around bali. offers a beautiful views of bali. my advice is to bring a mineral water on your own because the temple is really high. on the way to the temple many people will try to offer you many things such as post card, a picture. what you really need is just a sarong to cover your hips for respecting their religion and if you want you can ask for a guide and pay for it. if you don't want to buy anything just smile and say no thankyou or tidak terimakasih

Sissi Wang (27/05/2017 01:31)
- Amazing temple complex
- Entry: 60 000Rk
- Mandatory guide to visit free areas

The entry fee now includes a free but mandatory local guide to guide you around the temple complex. This is a new regulation changed half a year ago (so the ticket office and he was really upset when we confronted him with the scam guides which we got warned about in guide books and hotel owner)
To avoid disturbing the prayers during ceremonies you are most likely not able to enter the temples itself, but you can see enough through the gates.
The area is huge and you can ask your guide almost anything and they will answer in quite good English.

Noémi Simó (13/05/2017 12:53)
It is truly a beautiful temple and I am so glad that we got to see it. Me and my partner been taken there by our taxi driver. First we paid the entry fee what was 100 000 rupees per person what I think it's a fair price. After that we tried to head to the temple as I was so excited. The person who sold us the ticket didn't mention anything about the rule that we have to have a guid so we tried to ignore the people shouting at us and than our driver was running after us and said we have to have a guid. I was surprised but we walked back and I guess we were in their bad book. However we actually were very lucky our tour guide was fantastic. Unfortunately I don't remember his name. But his English was amazing he told us lots of stories about the temple. No question was too much trouble for him. And never made us feel that he want money from us what is obviously the case but he never make us feel pressurised about that. as soon as we approached the temple children was targeting all the tourists to sell postcards they are quite aggressive about it and don't want to let you go. But the experience overall was amazing I really tried to not concentrate on the down side of it. At the end of the tour we gave our guide a small donation for his knowledge and effort.

Radm Hum (08/04/2017 15:18)
The grand temple in Bali. A place to take many representatives scenic picture of Bali culture & temple architectural. Too bad it's tainted by money hunger management that charges high fees with a guide which is unnecessary. Even the local guides string advice against getting here. Resist from taking the ritual as they'll asked for donation after. They won't be happy if not paid.

Egbert Sow (28/03/2017 12:38)
Unfortunately spoilt by local privateers masquerading as guides who force you to pay for guiding and at any opportunity. Otherwise probably the best temple compound so far.

Hillorie Le (25/03/2017 09:09)
The temple was nice but if you don't have thick skin and a f*-you attitude, don't come here. You will leave furious with a sour taste in your mouth. The scams are like no other, the place is run by Bali mafia who will extort you for all your money. Even when we tipped a guide that we didn't want, he was soooooo ungrateful and said "you don't have any more money?" NO I DONT HAVE ANYMORE MONEY CAUSE THE ENTRANCE LADY TRIED TO CHARGE ME $15 FOR RICE AND VEGETABLES WHEN HER SIGN FULLY SHOWS $1.50, LMAO.

Josef Balcar (15/03/2017 09:03)
Nice temle, but extremly lot of so-called guardiens of temple, which are unofficial guides and a lot of them are very aggresive and anoying. Be also carefull with very young girls selling post cards. Last danger is women borrowing umbrelas. She wanted exchange 5k Rp for 1 EUR :-). The worst place we visited in Bali and Java.

Volker Kohlhaas (12/03/2017 15:00)
Very nice temple, BUT: there are so-called local guides which will yell at you if you want to enter the compound without buying a local guide tour. And even if you say friendly NO, they won't let you go. If you try to ignore them they will yell and give you bad names. A frustrating experience which was not worthy for such a nice place in general.

natt nati (03/03/2017 11:11)
What a sh!tty place, people in here only wants your money. Entrance fee is high, even for local. The merchant is so aggressive, they try to sell flowers to you even you say no. For the local guide, we totally don't need the guide in here. And, when they offer you to pray in a place that they say it is place for all religion, DO NOT EVER DO IT, it is totally scam. If you don't bring/have a cup of flowers when you pray at there, then they will ask you to PAY like for donation and a guide said that normally you should pay for it 10 dollars and don't know where the final destination of that box. At the end of the tour, a guide will ask you for a money which should be included in the entrance fee as they inform at first. It is not worth at all, waste money and time for this place.

Panon Supiratana (26/02/2017 08:33)
Biggest tourist trap ever.
Local people are thinking that you are a wallet with legs from the parking to the temple.

Even those guys sitting in the temple trying to talk to you for one objective "donation"!!!!!!

Better not to waste time if you want to be away from annoying people.

Giulia Sampogna (25/02/2017 13:22)
Incredible Mother temple. Such a big complex. Only thing very annoying are the local guides trying to force tourists to hire their services. They said it was an obligation to have a guide and just laying over and over again. Of course we knew it, but some people may get confused. Don't forget your "sarong" to cover your legs.

George Carlin (23/01/2017 09:11)
This is one of the biggest temples in Bali. Unfortunately many visitors describing their visits as ‘rip off‘ may discourage others from visiting this place. You just need to be careful. The temple itself is big, majestic and beautiful.

Jordi Mosegui (27/10/2016 23:02)
Unfortunately the rudeness of scammers and other characters in the temple ruins everything. Consider visit in organized tour or bring a local guide. I made the mistake of going by myself and after several arguments, had to leave the place without visiting. Very disappointing experience!!
At least Bali and the balinese people is great and respectful everywhere, but definitely NOT in Pura Besakih.

Gus Vieira (11/10/2016 03:46)
The pureness and beauty of the religion is SOLD in this temple. Under the excuse of the gods and the ceremonies the will charge you several times: to get in, to walk at the temple, to pray, to see, for the guide(they call guardians) and prepare to surprise yourself. The donation for purify is fixed price: 10€/person.

The most scandalous temple.

Miguel Leboreiro (25/09/2016 06:09)
Please read other reviews! Local's mafia trying to take money from turists ruined the experience. Even though it's pretty better do other temples, this is far for a tour anyway.

Harry usodo (31/08/2016 12:07)
3 star for the biggest bali temple only
but not for the local fake guide there
who money oriented and always try
for take much money from tourist with
aggressive way.
think twice to come here..
Need big attention from management or government who responsibility with this place.. or will be boycott by tourist.
It will be make black note for the Indonesia tourism.
Biggest temple with cheaters people !!!

Victor Lavaud (18/08/2016 05:23)
Very nice temple. Our experience was ruined by the "local guide" mafia though. You don't need any local guide to visit the temple but they will do all sorts of mind tricks to make you hire them, and that includes pretending to check your tickets, telling you it's forbidden to enter without them, saying they are not local guides but temple guardians etc. Once in the temple, guides wandering around will bar you from entering certain temples, mislead you. etc.

Mamii Rinda (04/07/2016 02:28)
Best tempel,, but ur money drain.. :( entry ticket 15.000/persons free entry for kids,, worst place.. If u pray on there must paid 100.000/persons

Sabrina H (22/05/2016 00:26)
The Tempel is nice to see and you can go up stairs there is good view. But if you wanna enjoy it, it's the wrong place. At first they stop you with the car/ scooter they will tell you it's the entry ticket. A few meters ahead they stop you again and you must lend such a cloth (if you go to the neighbour shop and buy one for 2 $, you can keep it)
Okay now you think you must be ready for the Tempel! Haha no! They stop you again at the stairs of the Tempel: "you are not allowed to go allone, because not every area is for visitors" you MUST go with one of them I asked if I can take a picture they phromited it. Pay again.... It's so annoying! A lot of girls wanna sell you stuff to sacrifice and inside everywhere children who wanna sell postcards. The best thing is to ignore them and don't give them a look.
Our guide said after 20m ok now you can go alone, there guide is just to ripp you off!!

Arne Wandt (21/05/2016 13:48)
The temple itself is okay, but it's dirty and much tourist and shops.

What you have to pay:
15k IDR on the street pp to get in front of.
10k IDR to lent cloth
100k for a Guide, you can't go in without a guide.

What I paid, but I were really aggressiv, because everybody fucked me up:
15k + 20k to buy my own cloth + 40k for a guide.

I would NOT recommend this place! It's just to rip you off.

Bianca Busetti (03/05/2016 08:11)
For me, it was totally a tourist trap.
Even at the parking lot, they want to tell you what you "have to buy" to enter the temple - don't do it, just bring your own Sari/Sarong and you are fine.
If there is bad weather, it's even less interesting because the best thing about the Besakih is to see the Gn Agung in the background.
You are not allowed to enter the sacred temple, but there is a nice walk around it, where you can easily get a look into it - and DON'T take a guide, you need it, it's just a trap...

jekk pak (17/04/2016 12:56)
The Mother temple of the Balinese Hindus, Besakih is unfortunately A PLACE TO AVOID. The Besakih people show THE WORSE OF BALI: they are, and are only, after your money: the more they rip you off the better they feel, from the sellers to the parking guys to the entrance guys (the worst of all) and the "guides".
It's a very unpleasant experience.
Boycott.
DON'T GO THERE; it's way better on tv.
