I don't know where to start with this one!
Best vacations ever and much because of the excellent services of mr. Jordi Jules!
The hotel is offering such a great relaxation experience, located on the beachfront in the best area of Bali. Close to the airport AND Agung mountain.
Smiling faces on every person from management to the housekeeping. These people really know what hospitality is supposed to be!
It was a dream vacation for us, hope to be able to visit again soon...
Do not forget to try the SPA, you will love it :)

Paradise on Earth!! This was our third time in Bali and it was the best. Very happy to have found this boutique, stylish and earthy hotel. Great rooms, exterior spaces and healthy food. Very good prices also. We will be back!

Excellent resort in east Bali. Beautiful setting, lush and relaxing, great pool, fabulous breakfast, good staffs, comfy bed, and lovely amenities. Even the coffee in the room was great!

Super hotel! Very nice! Beautiful rooms and well decorated. Nice breakfast and a nice pool. The hotel lays at Padangbai. At night, you hear the waves, very satisfying.

As others are mentioning, one must first emphasize the staff, all of whom are super friendly and more than prepared to cater to ones every whimzy. Micro faults over which one could nitpick simply melt away with prolonged presence here and the overall sense of serenity which wraps you like a warm blanket.

From the moment we arrived, this hotel was simply beautiful, from the truly dedicated team of mostly local staff to its amazing setting and special feel with all rooms and suites having a view of the sea and the central pool. [Special mention to Weda in reception and Winda in the lovely restaurant…both superb assets of the hotel and yet I hesitate to narrow it down seemingly so selectively, but all guests will get their favourites from this lovely team and depends on who is working during your stay.]
To quote: “On Bali’s east coast, the smooth basalt pebbles clatter like maracas as waves rake the shore.” Here on this relatively undeveloped corner of Bali, locals sift the black pebbles for coral on the water’s edge. Touts, tacky beach bars and tourist hordes are nowhere to be found. Alila Manggis is one of the few resorts in this tranquil area between the Badung Strait and Mount Agung, sacred to Hindus and Bali’s highest peak. It is the perfect place to clear your mind and just soak up the sun poolside with the waves breaking metres away.. A good book, sunblock, fancy shades and bikini.. You're good to go!!
Aman junkies like me will be interested in the history of this property: Hotel owner Franky Tjahyadikarta fell in love with the island’s east coast more than twenty years ago on diving trips and soon bought a 2.3 hectare beachfront coconut grove near the village of Candidasa. He engaged fellow Australians Kerry Hill Architects on the recommendation of fellow Indonesian hotelier Adrian Zeca with whom Tjahadikarta was a partner in the luxurious Amankila and Amanjiwo resorts.
The only instruction Kerry Hill was given was to work around the coconut trees and give every room a view of the sea. “It was important project for at the time because it was our first three star hotel,” says Jason Hill, director at Kerry Hill Architects. “In this project, design was intended as part of the attraction for guests.
“The design is restrained, uncluttered and simple. It is a contemplative place for people to go,” comments Hill.
Overwhelmingly, the emphasis of the design is towards outdoor living. All but two of the 55 rooms are 28 square meters. Ground floor superior rooms feature a terrace with a day bed while deluxe rooms on the upper level feature a shaded balcony. As prescribed in the open design brief, each room faces the sea as well as an oblong pool at the centre of a lush lawn dotted with coconut palms. This is where most guests spend their days.
Even though Alila Manggis, as it is now known, is over 20 years old, you'd hardly know it since Hill's designs avoid architectural trends, preferring to embrace tradition without entirely sacrificing modernity and respecting local cultures and locations.
I visited it as The Serai for lunch soon after it opened, but more recently have been a guest at the neighbouring Amankila, fortunately in a range of its most extravagant suites thanks to the GM who I am so grateful to. This week it has been a thrill to realise that in spite of the guest room sizes, the feel at Alila is on par if not more extraordinary than that at Amankila (no offense meant at all). The Alila bedrooms have recently been re-painted my favourite white and filled with brand new bedding including Ploh duvets…so very comfortable! And add in the very special Alila amenities and caring staff with turn down and careful daily service.
I loved everything about our stay at Alila Manggis. It is a great place for couples and older families, although there were a few young families during our 6-night stay. In a perfect-world there would be a children’s pool so that the main quite intimate non-resort style square pool could be a quieter pool, as is found at the more exclusive resorts in Asia such as The Datai that Kerry Hill designed at the same time as The Serai.
However, this has to be one of the best value and most unique properties in Bali.

I stayed for 3 days 2 night with my best friend here. The staff and its building are amazing. All of the staffs were very friendly, polite and helpful. The room was clean too. I can see the ocean from the hotel but there's no sandy walk-able beach there. Fortunately they have a cozy swimming pool to swim in and several activities to do. You can rent the bikes from the hotel to explore the nearest neighborhood, but check the gear so you can be certain that it will work perfectly. Their breakfast menu was always delicious too. I love their juices & how they use bamboo straw which is environmentally friendly. Their steak and Huevos Rancheros were worth to try. I saw some people playing badminton in an evening so I guess you can rent the racket too. To accompany your relaxation, you can hang out near the pool or at the hotel's lounge to enjoy their traditional herbal drink and local's delicacy. They also have a free service to transport you to Candidasa if you keen on exploring other area in Bali after your stay. There are also some tours provided by Alila but I didn't have time to try any.
The ambience was very calm and relaxing. I will definitely come back in the future.

The most beautiful hotel on Bali. Very peaceful and calm place. So different from the other crowded part of island. We felt as a special guests. Very surprising was transfer from the airport by hotel's driver. We were treated as a pair during the honey moon.

Hideaway closest to the Bali's nature. We spent a very romantic night there and wish we had spent more nights. Well-maintained garden, lovely room, spectacular pool, and breathtaking mount Agung scenery from the beach. Breakfast and dinner were awesome. Thanks to their friendly manager and professional staffs who made our day. Definitely will come back for a nostalgia.

Located in Candidasa (2 hours driving from Denpasar) makes this place so peaceful and calm. The staff were so helpfull and friendly. The hotel arrange some activity so u can choose like yoga, taichi, bicyling, movie, afternoon tea, city tour, and snorkling. It has a black sand beach back on the hotel, but dont think about swimming in there. Overall I had a great time staying here

Relaxing, Great view, good service. But pricing is on the high-side and not ideal for sightseeing as not much shops surrounding available (2016).

Consistently one of the best places to relax in Bali. It's so nice I keep coming back. The staff is amazing and the food is worth the price.

Nice, relaxing little place. Quite far from the action, so really let's you relax. They have a nice pool, which they keep immaculately clean. Have never seen a pool so clean.
