Lots of old trains you could inspect up close. A couple of carriage serve as a library with low shelves which the kids liked. If you arrive early enough (since it is very popular) you can buy a ticket to enjoy a ride through the nearby marshes in a steam locomotive driven train. When we went there (2018), museum entry and train tickets were still cash only.

I say this is a very Good starting point if you wanna learn more about how the Train Transportation progressed here in Indonesia, how it evolve, how policy changes to accommodate such drastic evolution in the Train Departement from a mere Human Powered mechanisms to now a Diesel powered high speed train that could flatten anyone in the train path, truly something a Museum well worth visit.

That's not all, there's also lots of picture describing the Railways System itself changes over the course of history and how it shifted Indonesia from a Primarily Agriculture Warring Kingdoms to an Industrial 3rd World Country, to exemplify this there's many Train Model used in the past to export Goods from one plantation to another and bringing it to the main dock for shipment from the model Bought by the Dutch to the Briton and to the Deutsch, various model of trains, Mechanisms and parts can be found here, some are even interact able that you could play with it.

Overall a Neat Place for those History enthusiast that wanted to learn everything about Indonesia History on the Railways System.

This is one of the railway museums in Indonesia, and it preserves both the physical elements and heritage of railways in Indonesia and abroad. This is a historical museum that tells the beginning history of the railway system while introducing the historical background of each period with displays of actual models.
It is also an educational museum. Children can learn about and experience railway principles, systems, and the oldest train in Indonesia

Fun, historic, educational & instagramable! Place is well taken care of. Lots of improvement compared to my childhood! Kids love this place! Pleasant climate with good nature views surrounding the road going to this place. Has some hawkers selling souvenirs, t-shirts and snacks through the metal fences surrounding the museum area! It is a great experience to have!

Great museum if you're a fan of train. It host classic steam locomotives and also showing photos on train history as well as several old train stops. The museum is actually an old station that are not used again (they convert it become a museum). So, the lay out is pretty much just like regular station, with actual platform and tracks. It was clean and well maintained.

The tickets for train trip is sold out quickly, you need to come early if you want to join the ride (the charge is 50K per person). Maybe they need to make the train trip bookable online to avoid many disappointment of visitors. Also provide 1 cafe/resto, so visitor can eat/drink properly inside the premises.

Honestly I came with no expectation and little bit skeptical, but I was so wrong. It was clean, neat, and the locomotives and railway cars were well taken care of. And they even have a railway car turned into a library which I think was very cool. A very fun and educational place to visit.

I have a good memory when my grandfather took me and my little brother visit this museum. In the past days, this museum just contain old locomotives with a very exclusive luxurious steam train ride. Nowadays this museum have a new concept of showing it's collection, it is a great one. There's a train ride tour (with a diesel locomotive) brought us across a very beautiful lakeside view, but still the steam train rides tour are highly not available for individual tourists, you gotta reserve the steam train tour long before your visit, and it comes with insane (for indonesian standard) amount of money (approximately $1,354.00)

Finally a museum that doesn't make a difference between a tourist and a local.
A huge collection of steam locomotives which most are sadly enough out of service.
The station is beautiful restored and all explanations are also in English.
If you like to have a train ride with steam, they have a few beautiful restored engines, think about your reservation in time.
Only once a week there is a possibility to g with the train

I truly love this rail museum. Showcasing many old locomotives and cars that once were proudly connecting cities in Java, particularly to bring sugar to the port of Semarang. Come here on Sunday if you can to get a free train ride at 10 am, 2 pm and 4 pm. Many improvements needed, such as scheduled guides, more detailed captions/labels, interactive display, role play game, many more can be done.

I've been wanting to experience the train ride since I was still an elementary school student. I got the chance today. But I lost it. At the time I arrived there, the day was (still) raining hard. To make matters worse, the train ride ticket was sold out already.

I was parking my car when the sweet high-pitched sound of the train's departing slowly pierced my ears, whispering a loud maybe-next-time farewell.

Well, the rest of the visit was still enjoyable, though showered relentlessly by the rain.

Yes, maybe next time, my dear old train friend. Definitely next time.
