I used a CIMB ATM in Cianjur, West Java using a foreign debit card and the ATM not only denied my transaction but it also retained my card. I called the customer service line and they told me that it is the bank’s policy to keep and destroy any bank card that is not issued through CIMB. The in-branch customer service representative gave me the same information and said it is standard practice for Indonesian ATMs to retain and destroy any card that is not issued through their bank. This, however, is not true as BNI bank will serve foreign bank cards without any issues. It seems that CIMB’s policy is to steal and destroy property from anyone who is not a client of theirs. They refused to help me or compensate me in any way for their theft of my personal property. A policy of theft and destruction is immoral and poor business practice and I feel that other businesses would not get away with this kind of practice.
