Nice play to stay, too good for the price, wonderful sceneries.
A dutch colonial house built in 1950s on elevated land to give good views of Munduk village. The compunds are separated into three to four separate buildings, used to house for the whole big family members. The room is not so large, typically for two beds, all with toilets inside the room. The bathroom is clean, the shower and water heater works during the whole stay.
The dining hall, front yard, small flower garden and offering shrine (small pura) is the center of Bendesa Mas Inn. Breakfast is served with balinese coffee and tea at 7am. You can ask for american toast, available on request only.
Bendesa Mas has three different sceneries, being on elevated ground higher than the neighbours, Aditya homestay, Meme Surung, Guru Ratna and One Homestay.
From the front yard/ dining hall, the view is stretching from Mount Lesung, the forest hills, Seririt Village near the coast, Celukan Bawang bay, and majestic mountains of Java : Mount Raung, Mount Ijen and Mount Merapi. The sun sets at the bay at 6pm. The bay turns to golden colors while Mount Lesung turns to crimson red. The sun rises from behind Mount Lesung at 7am.
From the elevated bale bengong (rectangular gazebo) on the right side of the hotel, the view is stretching from Mount Batukaru to the meadow.
From the backyard, the view is the misty mountains of central Bali, Mount Lesung, Mount Pohen, Mount Adeng and Mount Batukaru (tallest). The mountains are covered by mists all day. High chances to see rainbow on these mountains from Munduk.
There are three mini markets within 3 minutes walk from Bendesa Mas Inn, however the choices are limited as there are no modern minimarkets in Munduk.
Best restaurants near Bendesa Mas Inn: Warung Klasik (best place to view the sun sets to the bay), Warung Panorama (across the street), Warung Made (best food but not best view), Don Biyu (view to layers of mountains). Splurge : Mimpi restaurant at Munduk Moding Plantation resort and Kopi Bali resto at Puri Lumbung Cottages.
You can do trekking to Melanting/Gobleg waterfall and Munduk waterfall without a guide. Ask for the map to the owner.
Wifi is available for free, works well in the dining hall.
Bath towel and soap are provided.
Every house in Munduk seems to own dogs, they bark occasionally, so bring noise blockers. Also rooster sometimes woke you up at the wrong hour.
Temperature at 7pm to 7am can be cold and windy.
Bendesa Mas provide transport from/to anywhere in Bali, can be cheaper than other transport services.

Humble home, amazing, serene, peaceful sceneries, stargazing, cheap hotel.
Bendesa Mas inn is a short distance from Puri Sunny hotel and neighbour to Aditya Homestay. The entrance is inside a small ascending road. A lazy white dog welcomes us with a few barks. The “check in” is done quickly. The old house reminds of dutch era, with large river stones and dutch style wooden doors.
Our room is behind the main house, with a terrace with a bench and two chairs. The room is clean, not so spacious, no wardrobe. The lamp is dim, so we have to open the old style windows to let the lights in. Nice room, no smell at all. The bathroom is clean, a shower with a water heater that works well.
At the back is a garden and some family members live in a low ceiling house. The view is breathtaking, the mountains capped with mists. Mount Lesung, Mount Pohen, Mount Adeng and Mount Batukaru in one panoramic shot. Batukaru has one of Bali most important temple, Pura Batukaru and Pura Pucak Kedaton. There is a step going down to Aditya homestay, warung Heaven and warung Classics. They kept free ranging chickens at a level below the hotel. A real village atmosphere.
Near the old granary (“lumbung padi”) is a viewing spot to the Mount Batukaru and a slope to the valley. It is beautiful, especially in the morning as the sun rays turn the color of clove trees to golden.
The dining room is viewing the Munduk village above the clouds, with a small garden and a shrine and family temple complex. Climb an unfinished new room to get the fantastic view to the Mount Lesong and a slope ended at the coastal bay. Behind the sea is Mount Raung, Mount Ijen and Mount Merapi. The sun sets into the sea. Perfect.
At the center of the Munduk town, Bendesa Mas in near the traditional market, and a few small convenience stores. Warung Made is a good place to eat. Warung Klasik is a good place to see sunset.
Perks:
Free wifi, but signal is strong only in dining room.
Breakfast is fried banana only, plus coffee/tea.
They can arrange for transport, and cheaper.
You can stroll around the roof of the neighbours as they all one family.

Un petit havre de paix à Bali. Très bon marché (200K IDR) et probablement une des plus belle vue de la ville depuis le jardin.

Budget Hotel, breathtaking views, living in a village above the clouds, waterfalls.
Beyond expectation. I thought I would get a small, dirty homestay. Bendesa Mas Inn turns out to be a super nice place. A compound built in the old way of building houses, with stones, thick wall, and natural air flows. A big yard at the center of the three houses remind me of my own childhood playing and running around.
The inn only has 6 or 7 rooms, each for two bed rooms, and in-room toilets. The room is clean, and the bathroom as well. The water heater works so we can take a bath in this mountain village.
Bendesa Mas Inn is quiet from the sound of vehicles. But the dogs and rooster made all the sound of being in a real village.
Bendesa Mas is built on higher ground, giving the advantage to get a better view around. They have a view spots called bale bengong (rectangular gazebo) where you can sit and relax while enjoying the view.
From the breakfast place (they don’t serve anything after breakfast), you can see the main road of Munduk town, the roofs of houses, and the breathtaking views to the misty mountains of Bali to the forested hills, the town at the valley and the bay (yes, you can see the sea), and the grand mountains behind the sea (Java mountains). All in one panoramic shot. The sun will go down behind the Java mountains. The sun rise from behind the Bali mountain, but since the mountain is pretty tall, no good sun rise colors from Munduk.
Bendesa Mas has other Bale Bengongs facing different side to the mountains, hills, Gesing village and rice fields. I saw large rainbows on top of Bali Mountains.
Bendesa is no luxury but the facilities works well. Free wifi works, sometimes slow though. Water heater works (that’s important). I asked the owner to arrange transport back to the airport, and surprisingly much cheaper than the other drivers.
I did trekking to Bunut Giant Tree which is quiet tiring. The large banyan tree is impressive but the tree is dead already. Tried to do a shortcut on my way back, and get lost in the woods.
Trekking to the two waterfalls are also challenging. No signs and I have to make decisions everytime two roads diverge in the woods.

Colonial Dutch style. Clean rooms, hot water and good sights. The owner is a very nice old man. He will supply maps of the zone for trekking and any other information you may require. I'd repeat without any doubt.
