The grass is always greener they say and you can't get greener than Akar Cafe. This cute and cosy restaurant boasts super friendly staff who welcomed us in and fed us the most delicious falafal wraps and fruit smoothies. Reasonably priced and plenty of vegan and vegetarian options you can't go wrong with Akar. We'll be back for dinner!

Nice they have some vegan options which is quite special. After some explanation, they made me a vegan Mexican platter on special request (strange it was not indicated on the menu and caused a lot of confusion -- just remove cheese and yogurt, add rice). I could make 2 small burritos. As a "burrito connoisseur" I'd give it a 6 out of 10, which is fantastic for Asia.
Vegan waffles and creps were nice to see on the breakfast menu. The menu indicated they *may* have had vegan ice cream in the past, but not when we went. For 4 days they still didn't. Would have been nice to have a bit of coconut cream as a vegan alternative (or lower prices since there was no alternative). Really wish there were better vegan desert options.
Vegan porridge with cashews and cinnamon was nice.
Sunshine salad was great, as we're the "Spicy noodles".
Jamu was delicious!

This place is a little green gem in Lovina. I highly recommend going here for healthy food and friendly staff. Careful: The chocolate caramel cake will knock you out like a pro boxer! (In a very delicious way though!). There’re seats in the back as well with colored pencils for the kids or playful adults! Love it :-) Falafel wraps here are tasty tasty!

Being vegetarians we thought getting vegetarian food in Lovina would be tricky. However, Akar had such amazing food we needn’t have worried. A very good selection, I’d say they’d managed to cater to a variety of tastes: I had a Mexican deconstructed taco whilst my wife had a quesadilla. To top it off, those ice cream is some of the best I’ve had (rich chocolate flavour). The star of the show was the service: Monica did a great job of making us feel welcome and well looked after. Food came fast and was very tasty.

The food is awesome! I had a middle eastern plate inclusing falafel and hummus, have never eaten much better food like this in the best libanese restaurants back in my hometown.

Best place in Lovina for vegetarian and vegan food. Went for lunch and dinner same day 😊

After already being in and around Bali for a few weeks I realized how rare it is to come across any fresh vegetables in restaurants or warungs. Order at one of those and a side salad with a meal would be a slice of tomato and a slice of cucumber and that’s it, but not at Akar. The salad I got was full of super crisp vegetables and was large enough that I almost couldn’t finish, not to mention the prices are really good for the amount of food you do get! I would definitely recommend eating here even if you’re not vegetarian or vegan!

So happy to find a vegetarian cafe in Lovina. Lovely food and quaint atmosphere with fresh uplifting decor. We enjoyed the patio at the rear of the shop where you can colour in a mandala while relaxing. We recommend this cafe - for vegetarians and vegans. 💚💚

Foods are incredible. We're really enjoyed our pure vegetarian foods here. Keep coming back to this restaurant for our whole trip in Lovina.

Best vegetarian food in Lovina. Great iced cappuccino as well. Double chocolate gelato.. too much chocolate even for me.

Amazing vegetarian food, but prices are high for portion size. Great ice cream.

Delicious food in quint little place. Only vegan and vegetarian, but definitely the best food we had while in Lovinalife, which was otherwise quite touristy.

Cosy and charming little restaurant. The owner ist very sweet and caring for her guests.
We sat outside enjoying the relaxing music.
The food was very good with great flavors despite lacking salt (which we could easily add).
We enjoyed so much that we would have liked to stay longer. However, we had an appointment with the hotel driver. We asked the staff if she could call the hotel to reschedule the pick up so we could have dessert and fresh juices. She told me 'maybe later' but never came back to us to offer help with the phone call (our mobile is not working here). I assume that she did not understand me.

The BEST chocolate ice cream I ever had. In my life.! Not kidding, it's super amazing - passionfriut was really delicious as well, but the rich chocolate will make your taste buds explode! Don't judge by the presentation, it's simple and for the price you might expect fancier looks, but you'll totally forget about it as soon as you take the first bite..

One of the best restaurants in Lovina. Even if the menu is small, the taste of the food is amazing! (I had the Mexican plate) And the juices are tasty too.

Excellent healthy and vegetarian options here at this little restaurant. The zucchini noodle pesto is great, and the falafel platter is freshly made and delicious. We ate here twice during our stay in Lovina.

We tried lot of dishes here. I liked humus with pita and broccoli salad. Desserts were really delicious! Brownie, caramel-chocolate tart, ice-cream (white coconut and chocolate) and Indian masala chai were very tasty, 5 stars. Tzatziki was not as good as real greek one, pesto was not pesto at all. That's why 4.

Slightly pricy, but cheaper compared to other places nearby and the food was good!
Sebastian Dreier (10/01/2017 04:56)
This cafe is totally overpriced. It uses the vegetarian and vegan trend to make money. The food has for sure a better quality than elsewhere but in comparison it still not good enough. However the chocolate ice cream was fantastic (that's the reason for the second star). We may come back but only because of the ice cream. Btw: Do not try the Latte or the Cappuccino. Elsewhere they are better and far cheaper.

Excellent vegetarian food and home made ice cream. Good service

Nourishing, delicious and interesting menu with Kingfishers darting in the background - fantastic!
Laura Bi (27/08/2016 10:31)
I wish I could give more then 5 starts! We came here two days in a row as their food is just of of this word delicious and a healthy alternative to all the Nasi goreng. We tried various main dishes and two desserts and everything was flavorful, mouthwatering and filling, even though the portions might appear small at first. We'd come here again any time and are sad to leave lovina and with that akar cafe.
Ferenc Csonka (21/08/2016 01:14)
Nice coffee, great healthy food options. They also have carb and gluten free "pasta" options. We tried some of them and were completely satisfied.
Jason Coops (28/05/2016 13:18)
The meals we enjoyed had freshly ground spices thorough them making them spicy yet not exceptionally hot and the banana choc dessert made the meal an experience we will remember. The coffee was better than many Australian cafes we have visited.
We found the secret back room very cosy and the view of the streams wildlife simply stunning.
This little Cafe has become a large source of our vegan meals while staying in Lovina and will be visited by us many times into the future.
Thankyou Justine and staff for the amazing food, coffee and hospitality.

Almost once a week we have dinner there! The food is great. You don't miss the meat at all.

A piece of Ubud in Lovina. :) The salads are amazing! It's a little pricey, sure, but I have the feeling the money is going to good people and projects. Recommended!

Very good selection of vegan options. Nice breakfast. Great juices. They really do care about the environment right down to their wooden drinking straws.
Cintia Rezende (18/08/2015 12:25)
The food is good and the place is nice, located in the heart of Lovina Beach. The portion is small and the price is really high. It's even more expensive than the veggie restaurants in Ubud. A small salad costs 45.000 and a soy latte costs 35.000 rupiahs. This is Indonesia, not Europe. That's crazy!!! I would come here everyday, maybe twice a day if the price was realistic, or at least if the portion was double of what they serve. They need to get real!
