This palace is very familiar and famous of tourist local also international, it was not hard to find this palace, you can search in the sightseeing of Surakarta when you arrive at the gate there will be a photographer who wants to immortalize you later home you are expected to redeem the photo for a charge, it cost 20.000 rupiahs or 1,46 dollar per foto but you must clever to bid, it will be cheaper if you can get 5 pictures, and inside the palace they change 10.000 rupiahs or 0.73 dollar, all heritage still needed much clean, cos it too dirty and not maintained, it very unfortune, hoped the government would give a little leeway to pay attention to ancestral cultural heritage in particular

This palace is one of famous palaces in Java Island. Here we could see the heritage from the past palace like its vehicle, stationary, weapon, copy of a horse, even Al Qur'an in java language (using hanacaraka). Almost every goods here have its name.
Some good spots (Instagrammable) for shot a photos are sawo tree or the palace as well where some statues (likely from europe) exist.
Hope this palace has its agenda as well like keraton jogjakarta where it is always holding a puppet show (this show has a background music by using java traditional music) every wednesday.

When I was visiting here the place is being renovated so I was uncomfertable with it, but it was a nice place for new experience and learn about Keraton in Surakarta.

I love this place. Unfortunately, I was there during the renovation. So, some places are closed due to the renovation.

A very recommended place to visit with your family or friends. This historic place is located in city centre and surrounded by traditional market and mall. So many local sellers offers their products along the way to keraton. You can rent a rickshaw (becak) to get around. It costs 50k. The first destination is the museum. You can see the historic collections, such as the chariot, the photos of the kings, the historical gifts from other countries and others. You can also see the residence of the king surakarta. The admission price 10k for local travelers. After that, you will be invited to see the residence of the abdi dalem. Then, you will see kebo bule in alun-alun selatan. The journey is over, you will be escorted to the parking area. That's very memorable experience.

One of the most important historical site in Java. Unfortunately, I can't say it's in the best condition possible. It concerns me that such site was not maintained well. Tourist reception really need improvement. It's really difficult to reach by foot from Alun-Alun or Masjid Ageng, since there's no proper pedestrian walk. The best thing from Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat was the innercourt area, it really brings traditional Javanese mystical ambience. Theres also guided tour provided (admission voluntarily), introductory to some of paintings and relics.

If this palace is totally renovated, it would be greater and more luxurious than Kraton Yogyakarta.
NOTE: the palace is only accessible by driving the car or riding the motorbike. The parking lot available only for cars. It's not recommended to access it by walking since there's no pedestrian walks from the entrance gate (Gladak) entering the Palace. High risk getting accident against cars/box truck entering Pasar Klewer.

Biiiiggg palace and historical landmark in surakarta. Should your pictures been taken by those SLR freelancers, it might be better to tell them not to print if you really don't intend to buy them.

I felt excited to be inside the Keraton but after I got in, it turned me off. This could be one of the top notch sites in Solo if it has been cleaned and well maintained. Don't want to go back. Sorry :"(

The Palace is really interesting but in desperate need of renovation. It's also disappointing to see how the artifacts are displayed in the museum.

It's good enough to enjoy the traditional atmosphere.
Here, you can see the holly buffalo own by its palace. You can also enjoy the culinary, especially tengkleng or selat solo (the special food of palace family). Try this!

Currently closed for tourists (as of 5 April 2017) because of the internal conflict within the royal family. Now the keraton is surrounded by the military and the police supposedly in preparation of the coronation of the new king on end of April 2017 but as I said, there is an internal conflict so they must be dealing with the safety. The market surrounding it however is worth a visit- cheap things are sold here.
