A must visit if you want to learn about Batik. They will give you an experience of membatik (make the pattern of batik, supervised by the staff). This place also act as a museum for batik.

You can also see their batik collection, from the formal to casual.

This place surrounding is calm, but easily accessible by public or private transportation.

We had a lovely time at the museum. Our guide, Gigih, was the main reason for that. He spoke perfect English and had a good structure in his tour. He could provide answers to all of our (many) questions with a smile on his face. He showed genuine interest in us and made us love and appreciate batik even more. Thank you Gigih!

This is one of my favourite places in Solo. The restaurant has good local cuisine, the Museum on Batik is just fabulous and I never got bored listening to the guide explaining on batik and its meanings, origines etc. The shop is rather pricey and pne can get the same things at danar hadi shops in Jkt.

Impressive museum, many types of batik styles and periods from different countries are shown and explained by a friendly guide who spoke English really well. They also make their own Batik. Really nice to see & try. Personally i love Batik. Arriving in Java with a empty backpack, back to Holland with a backpack full of Batik shirts :-)

Visited this museum on my trip to Solo and I must say that I was totally surprised from my visit there. Keep in mind that you should not come during the midday hours since they have a break from 11:30AM to 1PM as this was the case with me. Therefore you had plenty of opportunities to see the batik mode collection shops alongside the cosy restaurant which is located in the same compound.
The entrance hall consists of a big batik shop where you can purchase your museum ticket as well as it is located right behind the main hall. Upon entering the actual museum, you will be given a guide to go through the exhibition complex telling you about the arts, history, use and all the different forms and production steps of batik as well. As for foreigners, the guides do speak really good English with a wide proficiency as well (with Indonesian accent of course). Taking pictures inside the museum is actually prohibited as the museum is a copyright protected area. Apart from that, touching those batik fabrics exhibited there was not allowed as well since those fabrics are 50+ years old. During the tour, you will get the chance to see a batik workshop and see how people are actually processing it. You can even have the chance to try it out yourself which I found to be really awesome.
In my conclusion, if you are interested in batik arts, this is definitely a must go because you don't get that experience anywhere in Yogyakarta.

We loved the museum - we had a guided tour in English. We also enjoyed lunch and shopping.

Very rich collections of batik dating from 18 century. The owner is collecting 10.000 antique batik and only displaying a thousand of them, but it is enough to make us awed.

There is a small workshop of batik making process where we can taking photo and of course, being a Danar Hadi, there is chick batik store to purchase a batik or two.

If you can visit only one batik museum for life, this is the place you must visit.

Love to always come back to the Batik Museum. Here you can learn how batik was originally prestigious clothing and articles for the Solo and Yogyakarta's royalties. Patterns of batik are designated to different rank or social status in the Solo and Yogya's palace. Even today, some patterns of batik can only be worn by Royalties. In Danar Hadi Batik Museum you can find all sorts of batik even from 1800s. Observe how colours in batik derived from nature, such as bark of the noni's tree root for bright red, nila leaves for blue. Picture taking isnt allowed. Insightful :)

See the art of batik and its history here. One of the most valuable museum in Solo

Leon K (22/05/2017 06:49)
Small Museum with lots of different Batik. Indonesian, Chinese and Dutch influenced. English tour with guide that suprisingly speaks english very well takes about 40 minutes and costs 35000 idr per person. Do it when you like batik.

Emir Ahmad (07/04/2017 14:47)
The house of the legendary batik from Solo. There are many batik to choose from. They also sell clothing from batik with high price. Beside this place there is a restaurant, an expensive one.

Adrian Achyar (23/03/2017 05:37)
Plethora of batik. About 1000 pieces from Jogja and Solo and also historical batik.

Serhio L. (11/03/2017 15:11)
We learned a lot about batik and it's history. It was interesting to see different kinds of batik. Though for this excursion the price is very high.

Afifah Nourita (15/12/2016 02:30)
This is a private museum by Mr. H. Santosa Doellah. He is the owner, founder, & also CEO of the Danar Hadi Batik Corporation, the Legendary Batik Brand in Indonesia. Actually he has 11.000 pieces of ancient Batik but that displayed in the museum only 1.078 pieces. If you entry there certainly you'll fall in love all goods and the building inside. Because all of them are ancient and antique. So Luxurious and friendly guides. After visiting that museum, you'll be proud wearing Batik. There are 2 kind the price of entry tickets : Common IDR 35.000 & Student IDR 15.000. Also there are some regulations, you're not allowed to take any pictures and touch the collection during walk around the museum.

Anton Suwito (17/08/2016 12:43)
I like the touring and the tour guide explanation. But it has high price Batik. Good to know why Real Batik is so pricey.

A satisfying service. The guide was informative like those in Ullen Sentalu Yogyakarta

asih simanis (27/07/2016 16:36)
This museum is totally worth your visit, but please keep in mind that You need to set aside around 45 minutes for the whole tour, and that it cost around IDR 35,000 to enter. The Batik collection displayed are enormous, and I surely learned a lot by visiting.
