Probably the only place in the world to see free roaming rehabilitated orang utans in a forest santuary...

WOW! I see many who bad mouth or give bad reviews on Semenggoh when they know in advance they may not see an Orangutan. This is the wild, the animals are not in cages, they are actually swinging from trees and find food in the rainforest. There are many other things to see there so don’t get your panties in a twist if something doesn’t show up, instead take that frustration and spend 200 ringgit, about $50 USD, and adopt an Orangutan your money will go to help rehabilitated animals. Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is definitely worth a trip and a few hours of your time to visit, you don’t need a guide to go but they show and tell you things you otherwise wouldn’t see.

So lovely to be here, watching Orang Utan in their habitat. You need to hike a little following a trail to the middle of the jungle where Orang Utans live and are fed. Make sure tgat you prepare an umbrella or raincoat as rain comes unexpectedly here.

Back to nature, feel the nature. Worth going, see how the "development" threaten the wild life.
As what the ranger said "this is jungle, not a zoo. Not seeing the orang utan turning up for food assistant is a good sign. If they didn't turn up, means that can be independent". Worth visiting

There have been changes to this site over the years. The orangutans are the clear draw and everything else has been somewhat neglected. Entry only peemitted during orangutan feeding times (0800-1000 and 1400-1600). We showed up at 1pm and had to wait outside the main gate. There used to be walking trails and an orchid garden open to public which could easily occupy an hour or more of time but all if these have been closed and appear neglected. One is left to wonder if this rehabilitation center is in need of rehabilitation itself.

The walk from the gate to the feeding area is along a paved road full of traffic from shuttles and tourbus operators while passing closed and padlocked gates that bar your entry to the neglected walking paths of yore. Upon reaching the feeding area one can finally admire the majestic semi-wild orangutans along with throngs of ipad wielding tourists, myself included. One is left to wonder if the entire operation is meant to feed the orangutans, of if what is really being fed is a human desire to consume and document "unique" experiences.

After the initial feeding there is the chance to spend a bit of time in an air-conditioned information room about the center and the orangutans. Here too you will notice outdated information that hints to a past glory of actual walking trails. There are also some crocodiles on display which are a good fall-back incase the orangtans did a no-show that day.

Do visit if you want to see an essentially zoological exhibit and support the conservation efforts of this center.

Don't visit with any plans to do very much walking or botanical explorations.

Will get to see the orangutans if you are lucky as the animals are living freely in the forest. Worth a try. Need better maintenance of the centre

Nothing special only to see orangutans if you are into monkeys. 1km walk in along a road with cars driving in and out. Bamboo forest and other flowers along the way but not well maintained. Overall they could do much better to improve the place.
