Seems nice, but it is under renovation, so I couldn't get into the complex - FYI!!!

Small but very well organize museum. A big part of it is under renovation but by what I have seen we can only expect it to be a good one

A wonderful place where you can learn about the history, traditions, religion of Sarawak. The exhibitions are very interesting and they also have some nice movies. Free entrance.

I have been lucky enough to have visited so many national museums throughout the world mainly in Europe and in my humble, no prejudicial opinion, this is the most interesting museum in the world. It has so many artifacts, you really need at least 2 days to take your time browsing through the numerous artifacts and that does not include the modern era museum next door. I have visited this place twice on 2 separate occasions and am still not satisfied...I need more time. Oh I love to visit this place again.

Interesting museum and very interesting history. Would have liked it if it were larger.

Scenery is great, you can take great pictures here. A lot of things that you can learn here esp about the people and their beliefs. Interesting.

A must visit place if you want to know everything about Sarawak history.
Unfortunately some of the staffs do not respect local visitor, perhaps only blonde hair considered as tourist and deserves respect.

**Please note that it will be closing for renovations for 2 years.**
Interesting museum close to city centre, with free entry.

The museum is right in the city centre. If you are first time to Sarawak, this is the perfect place to learn about the rich history of Sarawak from the era of Brunei's rule and subsequent Brooke's rule (AKA the white rajahs). Also in display is the stories of diverse tribal groups. The monolith outside the stadium is one of its kind in Sarawak featuring local tribal design.

A must go whenever I'm at Kuching. Fabulous preserved animals and information on the natives. There's a mini zoo nearby as well as a comfty cafe where you could enjoy local delicacies

Cultural and natural museum, not the newest collection, may specimens were probably stuffed and mounted 75 years, ago (some may even be extinct), but it does a good job of explaining things. The cultural portion is actually quite good explaining the history and beliefs of the local people as well as Sarawak's journey from tribal island to nation and eventually state.

Take your children with you if you planned to visit; this musuem is very educational!

A lot of money spent on their new showcase, which is well done. However, the original museum building and its contents badly needs maintenance. Air conditioning does not work in the main museum.
Austine James (27/04/2017 05:57)
A great place to learn about diversity in Sarawak. I wish the place were better maintained though

My children love going to the museum because they learn many historical facts about Sarawak. Personally I enjoyed the animal section and the History of the Local people. Didn't know that once upon a time Batu Lintang was a Japanese prisoners' camp.

The collection is small and not well maintained. The new wing is not bad though.
Iffah Rezali (25/02/2017 10:37)
take a sit and watch the video provided in the museum. you won't waste your time because you can learn about the diversity of culture in sarawak and harmonious community here.
Edmund Chai (09/01/2017 01:03)
Not as well maintained as many other countries.. What they lack I believe is the curiosity to find out more about the history and a superior to motivate the staff to do so.. they have good exhibitions but they can do more. Still a good place to visit.

Old and rustic. Many sections are closed for renovation and construction for the moment.

The museum is an excellent place to learn about Sarawak, its people, culture and nature.
Free entrance.
Unfortunately, no pictures are allowed.

At the white building (Arts Museum) now is the exhibition "orang Sarawak". Very interesting and a must-see. Modern style exhibition: very good descriptions, video's in English (Bahasa subtitles), audio's in English and Bahasa and interactive maps.
One of the pictures shows the floorplan and what to see. Takes 1-2 hours depending on interest. Free admission. Exhibition is wheelchair accessible! No aids however for blind or visually impaired.

Great little museum. It hasn't been updated in a while though but this actually adds to its charme. It is basically a crash course on Kuching/Sarawak as it has exhibits on both the animals of the island (it even has some of Alfred Wallace's collection) as well as the history of the place. It also has a lifesize model of a traditional Longhouse complete with real human skulls hanging over a fake fire.

You can get a crash course on the local history and culture. The best thing is, admission, parking and aircon are free!
Ivan Exposito (28/09/2015 16:40)
Nice little museum, when writing this was under renovation so all the content was packed in just one building. It's very interesting and the naive flaire of it is totally charming. Will be great if everything was better explained you miss a lot of the Wow just because most of the time you don't fully understand what you're looking at. It's free. Go.
Ibrahim Mohd Noor (21/09/2015 08:00)
In fact is is one of the best museum I ever visited all around the country. The artifacts are unique and rare. While some parts might lost their items already. Keep it up, restore and save it. I would like to stay longer and learn more about all the things I saw here. I believe they are many other things related to Sarawak that should be included here. They still plenty of works to do.
