Good Quality Food. Western/ Fusion. Ambiance is excellent being located in the historic Square Tower of Kuching which used to be a historic dungeon.

Food and staff was really good. The view from the restaurant was lovely overlooking the waterfront and DUN. We ordered juices, herb garlic potato soup, Japanese salad, sirloin steak, lamb shark and panna cotta.
Loved the Japanese salad and detox juice.

Been here before used to think it was decent only After much travelling and tasting all sorts of foods around the world, the food here cannot compare. Would give 3 stars but 1 is pretty deserving for how they treat potential customers. 'Real food'? That's a pretentious thing to say considering a hawker stall in SG got a Michelin star and remains humble. Real food is food made with respect and love for their customers.

being in business for 15 years doesn't grant you license to be condescending and arrogant. always remember there are people out there whom are way better than you, no matter how good you think you are. and i've known people in your line who has gone leaps and bounds than you, yet they know not to let their ego get in the way. the higher we ascend in life, the lower we must stoop down because we are merely servants. especially in the service line. you are there to serve people, not the other way around. you are nothing without your customers. the world doesn't owe you anything to warrant such attitude.
please learn a thing or two about humility.

The whole dining experience was over rated. The food was mediocre.... The only exciting thing about the whole place is the building itself filled with history. Shame it was used as a dining place!

Average Food, Pricey, Rude Owner and Sexual Harassment?
This restaurant serves western food at a high price due to its strategic location of being in a historical landmark. You may take pictures of the fort outside, but the interior requires ordering of items. I wanted to do just that so I thought I would go inside and have dinner the other day. Like I said, the food is pricey. It was alright, and honestly I've had better and bigger portions for lower prices elsewhere in Kuching. I guess the historical landmark has a higher rental fee?
However while dining I noticed a bunch of young people outside walking around on their phones, most likely playing Pokemon Go as it was just released here recently. There was even a sign outside the restaurant banning Pokemon Go players from entering, which is alright as I assume it must be disruptive to have players constantly enter without buying anything. However, as I was leaving I overheard some people talking about the Magenta Restaurant calling Pokemon Go players stupid on Facebook. I was curious so I went and did my own research and checked on what was going on.
Apparently there has been a bit of a drama going on regarding Magenta Restaurant and Pokemon Go players as there was a post announcing that players were not welcome (understandable, but written a little mockingly as it cited 'real people and real food') and also ended with calling them stupid for catching furballs on their phones. There were also further comments left by the restaurant that it was not Pokemon Go players he was after, but people with their 'hps glued to their hips'? I for one do not play the game (not a Pokemon fan), and did not take out my phone while inside the establishment so I'm unsure as to whether you will be reprimanded for dining while being on your phone.
This was only the tip of the iceberg as the restaurant owner's personal Facebook page (Dino Bidari), he proudly and gleefully describes how he keeps feeding these groups of players (some seemingly only in their teens) wrong information, even guiding them upstairs into the restaurant where there was a ghost of some sort (?) ultimately scaring them.
The last story left a nasty taste in my mouth which was of him bragging how fun it was to trick some girls that there were Pokemon nearby and then pointing at his crotch when they were confused. I feel sorry for those poor girls who were merely out having fun and had to deal with this disgusting restaurant owner. Needless to say, I won't be going back for more.
You should take this review with a grain of salt as I myself did not witness any of these events but it was posted on the restaurant owner's personal page.
I would advise you to steer clear of this place as:
1. The food is only alright, and the prices are steep.
2. The restaurant management is clearly unprofessional in posting their personal opinions (that Pokemon Go players are stupid) on a business page.
3. The restaurant owner takes glee in mocking youngsters and participates in clear sexual harassment (pointing to his crotch and telling girls there were Pokemon in there).
Do not bring your family here.

Dino the owner is an imprwsario. He will take a personal interest in making sure you have a positive dining experience. I enjoy eati.g there but watch your footing on the way out....especially if ypu've a few drinks in you. The steps are ill lit.

Quite an expensive place for western food in town, but the food and decor are good.
