This is probably the part of Melaka you don't want to miss in addition to Fort Famosa, St Paul's Church, and Jonker St.

A museum from a historical remain, and a great one. I felt very grateful to have guides explaining all the interesting stories of Malaka to me through the exhibits here, forming a very memorable part of my trip to Malaysia, even though my stay in Malaka was less than 7 hours in total. I spent 1.5 hour at Stadthuy, and enjoyed every moment.
Though, I have to say the exhibits should possess more precise and story-telling descriptions so that other travellors without guides (and actually it was my luck to have good guides from family friends for this time, I won't hire one on other trips) can also have a glimpse of the interesting stories behind.
From the higher floor of the museum, you can look at the Red Square below at a different perspective, and probably you would find that beautiful.

The Stadthuys are located within the walls of Melaka fort and lie opposite the north entrance to the fortified town, across the river. The fort itself covers a large area around the hill St. Paul, who houses the offices and warehouses of the VOC and all the facilities needed by the colony. The fort wall no longer existed today thanks to the malicious British vicious and vandalism directed destruction while protecting Dutch possessions in Asia from France, during the Napoleonic Wars. The Stadthuys is a massive complex. The interior of the building has two floors and it is 30 meters wide. In addition to being governor's house, Stadthuys also includes a Child-Secretary-General, a prayer room, a dining room, a guest house, slavery house, House of Merchants, prisons, trade offices, warehouses, courtyards and bakeries separately or separately. The spacious record room at Stadthuys is perfectly suited for the preservation of official documents, though the tropical climate is often a source of rapid decline in paper. With large thick wall meters, high ceilings and large floor tiles, it provides a cool interior atmosphere and seems to have a dry-cell effect. The building now houses the Museum of History and Ethnography, Admiral Cheng Ho Gallery, Literary Museum, Museum of the Democratic Government, and State-of-the-art Museum. Daily museum displays are traditional wedding dresses and artifacts from Melaka's golden age.

I loved coming at this place. It was very calm moments over here and less crowded. This is one of the main attractions in Malacca and must visit.

Love the slogan posted in The Stadthuys "Don't mess with Melaka". The structure is believed to be the oldest-surviving Dutch building in the East. The place display the typical featurea of Dutch colonial architecture with massive walls, windows and chunky doors with wrought-iron hinges. Theres also an old trian located at the back of Stadthuys.

The iconic red building in Melaka. You can enter the museum or just wandering around the area with flowery rickshaw.

Legacy of the Dutch reign in Malacca in the 15th century. Its uniquely red exterior walls, together with the rows of vividly coloured, decorated trishaws infront of it have attracted large numbers of local and foreign tourists. The buildings, vehicles, and of course, the people that are attired in a kaleidoscope of colours provide a rich sensory experience - sights and sounds - for visitors to the square. Don't miss the experience!
Iskandar Hamid (09/09/2017 05:37)
Great tourist hub. Security forces in patrol, adequate trishaws for rent & local eateries at the side (cendol etc)
Fikri Wicaksana (08/09/2017 04:28)
Local people more familiar with the terms "Bangunan Merah" than The Stadthuys. For example, Bangunan Merah is written in route of bus no 17 from Melaka Sentral

Historic. Crowded on the weekends and holidays. All in all, a good tourist hotspot to visit if you're in Melaka.
Isaac Cheah (16/04/2017 11:08)
Popular tourist photo stop and gathering place. Otherwise nothing much of note.

ipan pan (28/03/2017 08:44)
Historical place worth taking picture for. Do walk around the surroundings and visit the nearby Jonker walk too. Try one of the colourful trishaw which will change its decoration according to current trend.

The centre of the old town, Melaka. Nice building. Sometimes, there are so many tourist that will make you feel really chaotic. Cross the bridge, follow the small alleys is quite interesting.

Fuad Jauhar Zuhri (04/02/2017 08:11)
this the first building that ever use brick. It's a historic place. But, when you want to come here in holiday, the place is so crowded. I recommend you to come in working days...

A must-go place for tourist and visitors who go to Malacca city. It's a historical place built when Malacca is colonized by Dutch. During vacation, there're too many tourists especially those from China. There're also some stalls selling souvenir or clothes. You can also experience the "beca" that specially designed and with speakers that play songs.

A good place to stroll and look at the Dutch heritage and some beautiful buildings. This is the landmark of Malacca, a foundation of development and symbol for the city, definitely a must visit place.
Jonker Street, Fort Santiago etc are well within walk distance, with lots of museums, shops and restaurants.

Anna Fenomena (16/06/2016 14:06)
Very adventure and historical. It makes me to know more about the buildings and makes me want to explore all the historical buildings in Melaka. There is also a lot of historical art such as mural and beautiful color of buildings. #lovemelaka #melakainmyheart :)))
Yik Sheng Lee (09/05/2016 11:22)
For history buffs, this a must where you'll learn about the history of the city as it developed from a small Malay village to a bustling settlement of traders who intermarried. The harbour was so strategic that it passed on from one imperial power to another. Each leaving their mark on the local culture and language.
Kharizmi Tavtazani (01/05/2016 10:32)
Nothing special, just an ordinary old city. So many tourists and very hot, so it will be not comfortable for most people.
People queueing just for coffee or nasi ayam, a little bit overrated I think.
For me, once is enough. Won't come back here of course.
Najd Salas (30/04/2016 17:16)
Very good museum showing the evolution of the city through the centuries, from its creation to the invasion from the European countries. With artifacts, paintings, models and a lot of other items. And all of it is in a beautiful building built by the Dutch centuries ago.

A good place to be when you wanted to be away from the city. Banda hilir is a heritage and culture site. Christ church is located nearby. Bicycles for rent and looks pretty. A ship nearby for tourist and locals but i have skipped that.
