Probably one of the most interesting places to visit in Melaka. Very detailed information about the prison world not only in Malaysia but around the world including torture techniques from the Roman time, medieval period up until the 20th century. The prison cells, where you can walk in on your own, were the highlight.

It's a very educational experience! All Malaysian should come here at least once to understand what happened in a prison in Malaysia! Very experienced tour guide as he is the prison guard at the very same prison before!! Thumbs up!

The Prison Museum (Muzium Jabatan Penjara Malaysia), is located
@ the end of Jalan Parameswara, Bandar Hilir, Melaka.
The building was originally constructed in 1860 by Governor Colonel Cavenagh as HM Prison. In 1964, it changed to Henry Gurney School 2nd Bandar Hilir. On 11 June 1990, it was upgraded to be Bandar Hilir Prison.
It is OPEN: 9am - 5pm CLOSED MONDAY (Foreigners RM6 / Locals RM3).
Next to the museum is a shop where they sell products made by Malaysian prisoners. Most times open at the same time museum is open.
