The hostel in itself is ok (good facilities and breakfast) but it doesn’t seem like the owner cares about his guests’ best interest:
- When I told him I had to go to Bali, he told me that there was a bus « deluxe » (with air con etc.) that departed from Banyuwangi bus terminal and went to Denpasar, for 100,000 rupiahs. That seemed a high price for local standards but I trusted him since he knew the region well. He offered to call to book a seat for me and drop me at the bus, which I thought was nice.
When we arrived at the bus, a guy that looked nothing like an official employee of the bus company asked me for the 100,000 to get in the bus (that wasn’t « deluxe » at all; there was no air con). Well, this guy disappeared a few minutes before the bus departed, when the genuine employee appeared. And all the other local people in the bus (I was the only tourists) paid to this employee 20,000 rupiahs after taking the ferry.
While one might draw another conclusion, I suspect the owner was in league with the guy to whom I gave my 100,000 rupiahs, maybe to share the extra 80,000 I paid.
- Two friends who stayed at Dannus decided to rent him a motorbike to go to Ijen rather than booking a tour. The following day, Dannus told them that if he had known they would use the bike to go to Ijen, he wouldn’t have let them rent it. Apparently, he was angry that they didn’t book a tour through him.
By the way, I wouldn’t book a tour through him-we left late, guide was useless, and it’s a bit more expensive than other places for the same thing (e.g. 25,000 rupiahs more than at Mango Tree Hostel)

Nice and clean accomodation with cosy dorm room (3beds), but there is going to be a new bigger one in a few days. The owner Dannu is friendly and can help you setting up trips to Mt. Bromo and wherever you want to go. The receptionist Tica speaks english very well and is super kind and tries to help you with whatever problem you have.

Pelayanan rumahan yang terjangkau, fasilitas nyaman dengan wifi cepat. Cocok untuk homestay ketika wisata ke ijen, ada paket tripnya juga. Nasi gorengnya enak....

Hotel propre et à très bon prix. Le staff est très gentil :)
